  1. Not sure what your stocking is currently like, but if it's in the 55 in your info, you could get a foxface and they typically will clean this stuff up like crazy. I normally don't suggest adding more nutrients (via another fish) to a tank to control algae, but these types of caulerpa can be so aggressive that they take over much of a tank while you're trying to get your nutrients under control. Just something to consider if it starts getting away from you.
  2. If you can get it out, do it. Recemosa and Serrulata are extremely aggressive. If you don't have herbivores to control them, they can get out of hand in a hurry.
  3. Does it get leaves or little tiny tendrils that attach to the rock. It looks like caulerpa recemosa without any leaves.
  4. I use one of these: http://www.sonicscrubber.co.uk/, the yellow one is what I have. You can get them at walmart and a bunch of other places. They have interchangeable tips and are great. Have been using mine in my fresh and saltwater tanks for about 5 years. Also, if anyone has an apex or other controller, you can get peristaltic dosing pumps on ebay for about $30 each. Not dirt cheap, but the best I've been able to find.
  5. Sweet setup. I love the dimensions on this tank. I agree on the Mag12 probably pushing it for the return. You may want to back down to around 300 - 600 gph. Even with the head loss the mag 12 is going to be a crazy amount of flow. I'm running an eheim 3000 on the lowest setting on the same footprint tank as that, and it's more than enough with the vortechs in the tank.
  6. I've got a dual galaxy electronic you can have. One side doesn't work so it's currently a single 250. Not sure if the other side is repairable or not. Didn't dare to open it up.

I would recommend just a simple air powered sponge filter for biological filtration and a small powerhead for water movement. Easy, cheap, and works very well.
  8. Added this guy (Fromia) and a Royal Gramma about a week ago. So far I've seen the gramma only 1 time in a week. Unbelievably good at hiding. Not a fan of aclimating a sea star. Had to go from 1.021 to 1.026 SG which took about 5 hours. Was pretty easy to tell if I was drip ping too quickly as the star got mad in a hurry.
  9. It may be only available for premium members. Check in your "My Settings" panel and see if there's a display name tab.
  10. Nice setup. Welcome to the club.
  11. Sponge or a tunicate. If it's not bothering the undata, I would leave it.
  12. I don't want to get into a huge political thread here, but the country outlawing issue is huge. Countries that are supposed to be eco pioneers are some of the worst in the world at just looking the other way, Costa Rica being at the front of that group. Don't get me started on what Eastern medicine is doing to sharks as well as many other endangered animals on the planet (Tigers, Rhinos, etc.). If anyone didn't catch the Shark Water movie when it came out, it's a true eye opener. http://www.sharkwater.com/
  13. Just saw this infographic. Pretty staggering.
  14. Probably in the next few weeks. Not in a super hurry.
  15. If anyone want to order any more and split shipping let me know. There's a few corals I want, but probably wont be enough to get free shipping.
  16. Awesome. I'll have to hit you up if we start looking for a house any time soon. Have been debating it for some time now.
  17. Is this specifically for fresh water? In 9/10 of cases, I can't justify buying FW fish online. The exception is if I'm placing a large order or something that truly isn't carried in local shops. Otherwise Aqua dome and Aquatek and River city are my go to places. If you want discus or angels, I would make the trip to Houston Aquarium Warehouse - http://www.houstonaquariumwarehouse.com/ (Website is a bit slow right now). Aqua bid is a great place for FW fish especially if you're looking for something rare. Live aquaria is excessively expensive for FW IMO.

    Hello

I use Eheim canisters on my FW tanks. I have switched to the compact+ pumps for my sump returns. So far I prefer them over the hobby pumps as they are smaller and quieter.

    Hello

Welcome. This is a great place to learn and get support. Austin has some of the best fish stores anywhere as well. It's a bit intimidating at first, but the principles are the same as a fresh water tank. Not sure what FW fish you keep, but I would argue reef keeping is easier than keeping higher end fish like discus or altum angelfish. Probably more expensive though. Anyway, you already have the right idea. Research and take it slow before making any decision. Imitating someone with a tank you like is always a good way to get started as well. Best of luck.
  20. Will be watching my Buffalo in about 3 hours at the Irwin Center. Go CU!

Awesome. I heard next year Cowboys stadium is a host spot. That's going to be insane.

16 down at half it was looking ugly and then 20 unanswered to go up by 4. So close... Great game though.

That's all you can ask for. I know a lot of people were picking CU. I love the tournament. I've taken off weeks just to watch the 1st 2 rds. Anything can and will happen. Lots of upsets today.

  21. Saw these guys on AAF's website and couldn't pass them up. Pretty much the first 2 branching orange/pink hammer's I've seen. My other 2 orange hammers are both wall hammers.
  22. The growth and green base makes me think the bottom one is a red planet tabling acro. It's a bit pink, but I've seen them from tan to purple depending on the tank.
  23. A good ol' yellow foxface will usually mow GHA as well as bryopsis better than any other animal that I've found. I do agree that tackling the nutrient problem is important, but honestly, even if you get the system at zero PO4 and NO3 it could take months for the algae to dissipate. Secondly, if you do the GFO route, work up the GFO amount over a few months. If you just add a few cups and drop the PO4 to zero, you'll shock the crap out of the system, and most likely kill a bunch of coral in the process.
  24. Local shops have sabae's all the time if you want to see one in person. I'm pretty sure aqua dome always has a few in there. Also, if your clown is captive bred, it may be very difficult or impossible to get her to host anything, worth keeping in mind.
  25. Do a lot of research on the anemones before choosing one. BTA's and long tips and the like are pretty easy. Carpets and ritteri are all very difficult, ritteri almost impossible, or require species only tanks.
