  1. There are basically 2 ways to keep a drain completely silent. The first is to maintain a full siphon. This requires at least 2 drains. The incomming flow should be high enough so that the main drain never sucks air and the secondary drain is for any excess. You need 2 because it's impossible to perfectly match pump rate with a drain flow rate. The second method is to reduce the flow to around 30% of rated flow for the pipe. This will allow an air chamber down the center of the drain with laminar flow on the outside of the drain. Anything inbetween these will cause a gurgling or toilet flushing noise. You can often get it quieter with tubing or venting or muffling, but it wont be completely silent. I would try venting the cap, but also reduce the flow if possible. I'm assuming that it has only a single return line to the sump.
  2. Do you have an overflow box or a horizontal overflow?
  3. A few new additions. Little foxface, about 1" Porcelain crab. Anemone headdress.
  4. http://support.monsterfishkeepers.com/ Sign their petition. They're a good online community being sued by Monster Energy drinks.

Interesting they haven't gone after MonsterCable.com, who actually has a "Rock Star" energy drink can on their front page.

MonsterCable can sell audio cables for 20X or more than their actual value. They've obviously got some change to spare for a frivolous lawsuit ;)

    Just another tank

    Fish gallery Houston.
  6. Will lower to $125 for the tank, $250 for tank and chiller. There's $50 in the actinic light alone upgraded on this tank.
  7. Stupid elephant slug took a liking to my red planet. In the sump you go.

  8. Sorry, skimmer and 50 have been sold. Just updated the previous posts. I forgot to update them.
  9. 10 day vacation, my tanks went unattended like champs...

  10. Nano Cube is still available. Will come with a brand new 1500K MH bulb as well. Still $300 with the chiller or make a reasonable offer.
  11. If you can, I would figure out how to get a sump just for stability's sake if nothing else. If you can get another 10 gallons of usable volume under there it will help a lot. 2 clowns and a watchman, which get pretty large, in a 20 with minimal rock, is going to be hard keep stable.
  12. Aquadome just got in some sweet tennis ball size acro colonies for $50 each.

  13. You would calibrate to 35ppt, and then add 1.7ppt to the final reading to get the actual salinity.
  14. This one's probably up for debate, but you may want to completely vacuum out the sand and replace it. At this point it's likely to cause future problems if it gets disturbed again. It's not a big tank so it's not a huge investment. I would definitely do it, if it were my tank and I was resetting it after a crash like this. Your other option would be to carefully start siphoning the sand each time you do a water change. You run the risk of disturbing it too much in this case though.
  15. Basically you calibrate it with the solution using a small screwdriver. You can also use Ro/Di water which isn't quite as accurate but it's usually good enough for daily usage. Put some tank water on the lens, wait a few seconds and read it. Extremely easy and very accurate. There's ones on ebay for about $20 that I have heard good things about as well. You just need to make sure they are the correct scale.
  16. My guess would be the sand. If it isn't messed with and doesn't have something the moves it around constantly, it can trap a whole bunch of detritus in it which then turns into Hydrogen Sulfide and other toxic stuff. Whet it gets stirred up, the stuff gets released. If there isn't a ton of carbon, or a near 100% water change it can crash everything. If there was any sulfur smell this was definitely the case, but based on your description, this would be my guess.
  17. No tumbling for carbon. If you have a media bag, you can just put it in a flow area as well.
  18. The nano cube is the pictures just above your post. The chiller pictures are at the top of the thread.
  19. Putting the JBJ up for sale. Here's some pictures of it. It's a great tank. Has 2 fan's modded into the hood. You may need additional cooling depending on your light cycle and room temp. $150 for the tank by itself. Will combine the tank and chiller for $300 OBO. Will need a pump and plumbing for the chiller. This is a steal for this tank with a chiller. Will hold with Paypal or pre-arrangement. Lighting: 150 MH (14K Phoenix) + 2 x 18W Actinic PC, + stock LED moon lighting. The Mh and PC bulbs are about 9 months old so will probably need replaced soon. You can grow anything in this tank with the intensity of the lighting. Stock pumps with split locline returns on both sides. Will throw in a Koralia if you want it. Do not have a wavemaker in this tank currently. Actinic only bulbs:
  20. Getting the cyano under control. Think it was just one of those transient algae blooms since the tank is still young. Here's a few updated and unedited phone shots. Just switched out the 20K lighting for 10K lighting. So far all the corals are appreciating it. This poor candy cane was on the brink. Could barely see any green and he's very slowly starting to come back: GBTA on his second lap around the tank... Duncans: SPS Frags: One of my Dwarf Morays. Gave up on trying to sell them and got a screen top for now:

    Free FW live plants

All gone. Will repost if I do another trimming in the future.
  22. This is really cool: http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator/ Haven't used the paid version but even the free demo is really cool. Definitely worth checking out for anyone new to photography. Really provides a good visual connection to functions on a camera.
