Is the puffer well behaved? Never seen one in a reef tank.

-Chris

I definitely have the oddball. I've seen him go for dwarf ceriths, but nothing else. I once saw him go after an Emerald crab which ended with him being pissed off but nothing more. LOL

If anything, he gets picked on by the other fish. But he's got great personality! Had him for a little more than a year.

Ok, we're going to try this again now that i'm staying put and not adding a bunch of other stuff that'll freak out the fish.

Got in an order from Live Aquaria

1 Achilles Tang

2 Lyretail Anthias'

From the Diver's Den

1 Pink Tipped Green Stag, I have to say i'm really pleased with the health and SIZE of this colony. It lost a little color in the shipping, but i'll give it some time and it'll color up fine.

here's how it looked in their picture:

post-1783-0-72142800-1357238103_thumb.jp

And just dipped and acclimated to my tank. Polyps were out in seconds!

I'm excited to watch it color up!

Those are some amazing additions.

As I am about to have to start ordering to stock my 75gal, would you recommend ordering a "difficult" fish such as an Achilies through them?

Usually go through an LFS but if you vouch I'd def consider going through LiveAquaria.

If you can purchase them from their "Diver's Den" they would already be trained to eat frozen and already quarantined. That's the best way to go. I used them because they have a 14 day guarantee money back or credit which is hard to match locally if at all. I purchase the majority of my stock from local stores and from fellow reefers. And most of the stores in the area will order whatever you ask.

My last order from them. Everything lasted longer than 14 days but all died a week later. I wouldn't blame anyone but myself though for that since that's when I added the stock from my other tank when I sold it and stressed everyone out.

A 75g would not be big enough for the recommended size for an Achilles also so you may be pushing it.

Nah, not looking to get an Achilles. Was just saying a "difficult" fish, such as an Achilles (that you ordered).

I'm more interested in wrasse/dwarf angels. Just don't know if I want to order through a shop or order online. Either way they will be tough lol

The pros of buying online are typically better selection, and lower prices. The draw back is not seeing them before you get them. There are often times smaller or bigger than what you expect.

Local stores are usually a tad bit higher in price but you know exactly what your getting. You can also see if there is anything physically wrong with them or if they eat well

So I have been keeping in contact with Live Aquaria about my recent purchase.

One of the Lyretails didn't make it through the first night, and the second perished 2 days after that.

I also informed them that the Achilles has yet to accept any food from me, I have tried Mysis, PE Mysis, Brine, Angel Formula, Marine Cuisine, Krill, NLS Pellets, and Nori, all soaked in Garlic and Aminos.

They refunded the Anthias' immediately no questions asked!

They also reccomended to continue trying to entice the Achilles with Garlic and Seaweed and added an additional week to my 14 day guarantee making it a 21 day guarantee and instructed me to contact them at that time if the condition hasn't improved.

I'd have to say, I expected there to be more hoops to jump through for their guarantee but they are definitly holding up their end of the bargain!

  • 2 weeks later...

Well my Achilles Tang has been in my tank for 3 and 1/2 weeks now, but still hasn't eaten any prepared foods! hmmm, I didn't think I had enough algae in my tank to support that diet.

The Stag and Lyretails didn't make it, but Live Aquaria was very helpful and stress free in their guarantee process. I'm going to try another coral and Lyretails soon.

I have suspected my Koran Angel for a while at nipping a little too close to my SPS and Clams, so I'm going to go a head a catch him after I found some bite marks on one of my Birdsnests. He will be up for sale soon!.

What does ur puffer eat, I got one from the dome 5 days ago but haven't seen him eat yet

When we first got ours, he would only eat live ghost shrimp. So I would go get 12 or so once a week. After that, we tried bay scallops from heb which was the first prepared food he ate. Then he began to accept krill. Now we can feed him anything. Never really went for clams or scallops in the shell.

Decided to organize my equipment finally.

Sump Left.jpg

Before.JPG

I know, I know, combination of moving and laziness made this happen.

I overflew my sump a few days ago and could have easily ruined all of my equipment.

So I went and picked up the Panduit from Altex.

Panduit.JPG

I like the idea of hiding all of the wires inside of it, but I found
it to be very hard to do when you can get behind the tank or the cords
for the equipment aren't long enough.

What I decided was to go the easy route and move all of my equipment
to the other side of the tank away from all top off equipment and
dosing, as well as to mount them away from the floor.

I used some of the mounts that came with my MP40s and black zip ties.

Mounts.JPG

I also picked up a 12$ labeler and have labeled my DJ switches as well as the individual plugs on each piece of equipment.

DJ Bar.JPG

This is the ATO area and APEX mainframe now.

After.JPG

Not 100% pretty but everything is safe and I can easily figure out what is what and make any changes as needed.

Coral Update, been having a coral frag sale so some aren't as big as they were 2 weeks ago but I figured I'd show the ones that have the biggest difference.

I bought him from Diver's Den so I know he didn't come with anything. He got Ick about 3 weeks into being in the tank. He eats frozen and Nori like a pig. I soak everything in garlic and aminos daily. I plan on getting a cleaner wrasse to help since my cleaner shrimp don't do anything. He goes right up to them and they just sit there!

My current task is one day to pull the rocks that have xenia on them and get it off, as well as start taking care of the aptasia that seem to love my zeovit additives.

My Xenia have totally taken over the top row of my Live Rock. So much that they're choking out some of the SPS. I'm also getting GREAT growth out of said SPS which is yielding flow issues.

It's time for a major Re-Aquascape.

My plan is to remove all Marco Rock and Sell it.

Build Live Rock Structures with epoxy so as to maximize tank space and flow.

Any remaining Live Rock will go into a new compartment in my larger sump to allow for natural filtration.

Switch to all Build My LED fixtures.

Let the FUN BEGIN!!!
