  1. I have an 11 year old daughter who somehow enrolled herself in 3 science classes this year, you all definitely sound right up our alley. We're star wars, star trek, firefly, red dwarf, and just about any other sci fi nuts as well.
  2. Wow, just got back from about 6 weeks away from Austin / the US / any communication, and apparently have to catch up here. This is one of if not the most helpful and tolerant web forums I've ever participated in...
  3. Kayaking (w/fishing some of the time), rock climbing, mountain and CX biking, paintball, skiing (snow), golf, working on my house which my family has started to call the farm... Used to play soccer a lot but injuries were starting to catch up and not go away, so currently on hiatus. Also travel a lot, still have family property up in Colorado as well, so try and spend as much time up there as I can.
  4. Here's one I use quite often, if you do water changes just using 5 gallon jugs for makeup, you can just put your jugs in the kitchen sink and run some hot water in the sink to increase the temperature. I can typically increase the temperature in 5 or 6 jugs by 10 degrees in about 10 minutes. Heat transfers very well through the side when it's sitting in hot water. Much, much, faster than combining them all and using an aquarium heater.
  5. I hope the craigslist UI design is just an april fools joke. The site is ruined.

Looks normal today. What did they do to it?

They removed all categories. Basically looked like the original google, with a search box, and a few links to community, for sale, etc. Completely ruined the ability to browse at all.

  6. War of the world lightning storm down South last night. I think my fish even tried to run away.

  7. Start a new thread here: http://www.austinreefclub.com/forum/166-equipment-discussions/ This one was almost 10 years old.
  8. Anyone interested in some backyard ducks? I'm placing an order for some ducklings next week and it's way cheaper for shipping to buy a larger quantity. Comment or shoot me a PM if you're interested.

  9. Has anyone tried 1/8" (.125) ID RO tubing instead of normal .17"? I had some normal tubing rupture on me under normal pressure and need to prevent it from happening again.

It was between the faucet connection and the RO unit. Had been operating in the same place for about 24 months as well, so definitely not an issue of the line getting damaged.

What material is your tubing made of? Is it thin wall?

Running the normal BRS .17 ID LLDPE tubing. I'm running through walls in a few places so while this leak was in my garage and wasn't a problem, a leak inside a wall would be extremely bad. Found the thicker .125"ID on a plastic website.

  10. Screwed up a GFO reactor flow rate and turned my sandbed rust brown, doh...

  11. What does everyone do with the plastic netting they wrap Christmas trees in? This stuff is like soda can rings on crack...

Cut up and recycle with fishing line. There are collection spots for that.

    2. jestep

      jestep

Yeah, we were working on cutting it up, but it's a crazy amount of work. Probably at least a whole hour, if not 2, to get through a 9ft net. We still have one from last year as well with even smaller netting.

Hit it with a blow torch? why cut when you can melt? :)

  12. Is anyone or does anyone know a mechanic that can do a shock replacement with parts that I already have? My shop originally told me they'd do it with my parts then changed their mind after the truck was dropped off.

It's just a 4wd xterra. I have no problem DIY but I'm not messing with swapping the coil springs. Had a bad experience with a portable compressor a few years back, never again. Shop was unwilling to compromise on doing it, wasn't an issue of money.

I'll check out the other places as well, there's a Lambs near my house. I've been way turned off on them since I called them out trying to rip my mom off with about $500 in completely unnecessary work like...

..fuel and oil treatments and rebuilding almost new brake calipers.

If I can just get a shop to swap the springs for me that's probably enough.

    4. ckyuv

      ckyuv

Yeah Ive only used the lambs in cedar park on 1431. I had them replace the front coil springs on my 2015 with 2" lift ones and they charged me $110

  13. One more request. Need to borrow a 3/8 or 1/2 cordless impact driver for a day or two... Can trade beer, a frag, or something else. Shoot me a PM if anyone has one they can spare to lend for a few days.

So I tried using some and it's almost impossible to get on a hose barb. Is there some trick to it like boiling water?

they don't keep it with the light fixtures. Go back to the back where they have the ceiling tiles etc.

Yeah HD has it but it is in the back where they keep the light delection stuff not in the lighting department itself

Really depends. I'm way southwest so the dripping springs fields occationally, outlaw and extreme sometimes. I like Texas but their paint prices are borderline absurd. $95 per case for premium is pushing reality.

  18. I'm using the pellets that came with the reactor. I've looked around and can't figure out what, if any, off the shelf brand is the same. Seem to be a little larger than BRS but smaller than the NP XL's. I would just avoid anything that is a sphere or oval and smooth like the NPX. If they're cylindrical shape, or uneven shaped, they should be fine. If the reactor never shuts off I think it would be less likely to clog as well. I just have my reactor in the same compartment as my skimmer and it works fine. From what I've read it doesn't matter where they are in relationship to each other as long as there is a skimmer in a tank. I would keep it the way you currently have it.
  19. Very nice. This should look awesome once your get coral filling it in. I've always liked the island look with or without sand. I'm assuming you're using cadlights or other pellets, but do not use TLF NPX pellets with that reactor. Once they start to wear down, they perfectly fit in the holes at the bottom and clog it up. Burned my pump out on mine and it took a ridiculous amount of work to clean the holes out because they're not very accessible. You probably don't need to plumb the reactor directly into the skimmer but wouldn't hurt either way. I still really like running pellets. Seems like it's a mixed bag depending on the nutrient input / export capabilities of a tank. You may really benefit since there's not going to be much export without a sandbed or other area for denitrification.
  20. 20" wide rims. Has nothing to do with anything but check out the rim specs on the new mustang: http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/trim/gtfastback/

      GrimReefer

I think you have mistaken. Widest on gt is 9.5 rear. Tallest is 20". Couldn't pull up specs on cobra

They have the rear ones listed as 19 x 19.5. 20" wide tires would be hilarious.

If we can get a few more days of this lake trav might go up a bit!

  22. Not local but I can personally vouch for barkerdoor.com. Very easy to order from, and the doors are very high quality. You do need to finish them yourself though. Took about 12 days to ship.
  23. So normally I would say cheap is just using gallon water jugs but I had almost a full gallon of Alk eat through the seams on the jug and make a heck of a mess in my stand and on the floor. These are perfect and they take up less space than a normal gallon milk jug. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B51251U/ Compared to the $25 - $100 dosing jars these are a deal. Good quality. No seams on the bottom to rupture. Just poke or drill a small hole in the top and use rigid airline tubing to connect your dosing line to. The wide mouth makes it super easy to pour powdered Alk or Ca without needing a funnel.
  24. Anyone have a WP40 I can borrow for a week or so? Mine just crapped out this morning and even after cleaning, I can't get it to spin. Need to order one, but need some flow in the tank in the meantime.
