  1. This was my old tank so if you have any questions let me know. I’d love to see a FTS or what it looks like now if you have one. DSA made it.
  2. I would go with DSA or AGE over GC. My 375 is built from DSA and I am VERY happy with it. Ocean view is a offshoot of DSA fyi and cheaper. The best thing about AGE though is that they are light, very light. We moved a 300 with only 4 people very easy.
  3. It was great to see everyone there! Thanks again Aquadome!
  4. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
  5. Well the presentation is expected to be around 20-30 minutes. But most of the time we hang out and talk reef for awhile. If you want I can give you my number and you can text to make sure we are still there? Looking forward to meeting up with the Austin folks again. I dont make it up there as much since I moved from San Marcos.
  6. Thats a easy one. Marine Cuisine. Enough large chunks to keep my tangs happy and enough smaller stuff for the corals. I also use rods too though.
  7. Im pretty excited to hear him speak on this at LMAR. I dont get the best growth out of my sps so maybe he can shed some light on these systems.
  8. Foam. Its cheap and easy.... Get the pink stuff from HD or Lowes. 3/4" it comes in 8x4 sections. Tell them you will take a messed up one(that will still work for your application of course) and they will even give you a discount.
  9. Very nice! Out of curiousity do they split fairly often for you? Are they with any other anemone species?
  10. I dont use filter socks but have pods throughout my system. I would think the eggs might make it through? Or just take a piece of rubble from your display and put that in your sump. They will multiply fairly quickly.
  11. I saw the tricolored scopas also on their site. It pretty cool looking also.
  12. I used to grow hair algae in mine to feed my tangs. I wouldnt let it get to the point where it might clog it though. A DSB back there might work as someone suggested.
  13. Well alot of New Braunfels lost power last night for 3.5 hours. Very unexpected as there wasnt a storm. Anyways I did the inverter trick from my small car battery to one k4 and it worked great. Temp stayed stable at 80.5 which is about where it normally stays. Anyways its an easy fix and only ran the price of an extension cord(price will vary on length needed) and a inverter(mine was about $30 from walmart). Once power was back on I started the car just to check the battery and it started right up. I still didnt sleep much as I havent tried this before but it worked great. Next time around I will sleep alot better.
  14. My plan is simple. I just use a cup and every so often dump tank water back into the tank. I have an inverter for my car that I could use to circulate the water. Although I have been without power for 4 hours and everything was fine with the cup technique. With my 360 I plan on using a small koralia hooked up to a ups to keep the water oxygenated. My temp stays pretty constant so getting oxygen to my fish is my biggest concern. Coral can withstand alot more than fish.
  15. My 180 is oceanic and is 24" outside glass to outside of glass. I know its not 18" but will probably answer your question.
  16. Why not the 1400? You could use it later when you upgrade. I would just put one on either side and run them with a controller to get some nice flow. I have heard great things about these.
  17. This is coming up alot lately on the forums. The new LEDs have a very strong following it seems but from a business stand point I dont see them taking off. I think plasma may have a chance but we will see. Here is why I say LEDs are at a disadvantage-PFOs rights to LEDs being used for aquarium use. For another company to take them on in court they would rack up some fees plus if they won they would already be out that money while the competition could move in. The businesses wont make as much money selling bulbs. The long life on LEDs make them alot less profitable as the bulbs dont need to be replaced nearly as often. This is why alot of diyers are making there own fixtures from the high output LEDs with reflectors that suit their tank. I just dont see a manufacturer putting out a lower cost product(as there are some products out there already) anytime soon. Hydro- I didnt know you manufactured all that for gardening also. Im going to have to look more at your website.(I graduated with an Ag. degree last august.)

    temp ?

Mine stays between 79 to 82.
  19. I didnt mean to imply that the skimmer was a knockoff, those vibrator pumps probably, but even more of generic brands vs name brands. A generic brand wont spend on R&D like a name brand will. But yeah if a company wants to risk sending out a product to a place like China, who doesnt obey the same copyright laws, then thats a risk they have to take.
  20. Also Mike brought up a very good point about knockoffs that I will try to explain. Offbrand or knockoffs(not saying this product is or isnt, this is just in general example- HEB brand) are horrible for business as like said above they are there to make a quick buck. They find a product that sells, either copy or slightly modify it and sell away. The important part is the brand name companies doing Research and Developement to get specs perfect have already spent a huge amount of money. Then when a knockoff copies their product they lose sales from this new competition. Also the knockoff brand doesnt have the money invested that the original manufacture does, so his profit is made much quicker and doesnt do any R&D. Yes the money problem isnt good for the original manufacturer but the bigger problem is that R&D wont be done to make better products from the knockoff brand. This in turn doesnt allow us to get better products. So in closing, lol, knockoffs/offbrands are bad for overall business/economy. Hope I didnt confuse anyone besides myself. jk
  21. I also wouldnt purchase from there. Just a little to "fishy" to feel comfortable about ordering from.
  22. I know your tank is 6' long but what are your other dimensions? You could do 4 footers with a 2 foot light on either end perpendicular if you have the room. Right now I only have 2 250w pendants and 4 foot vhos for supplement over my 180. I bought it this way but it suprisingly has pretty good coverage. My sps grows all over so I dont complain.
  23. To answer your question yes it is possible. The established tangs will probably beat the new yellow tangs around for a week or so. Adding them all at once will help to spread the aggression though. My kole tang wasnt very aggressive but I would suspect your sailfin will be the bully at first.
  24. With the 180 I was very against UV. Since I have so many tangs and plan on alot more for my 360(both tanks are/will be mixed reef) I will be using a large UV. Yes it kills the good and bad but if it helps keep ich down I'm ok with it. Also, coral will still eat dead/dying food much like that which you get from a bottle at the store. lrssix- I think you may be confused as a UV light is in a tube which has water pumped through it. The UV then kills pretty much everything which flows through that tube. It isnt something that you put over the tank like a light fixture. Although corals do get UV from natural sunlight. I have read some threads about people starting to experiment with UV over tanks to see if colors are affected.
