  1. That is why we are all in this hobby right?!?, to sell stuff and make money? I figure my ROI, with selling coral frags, Chaeto etc. will occur some time late 2020, that is if I can stop buying livestock, salt, GFO, etc., etc., etc., etc..... each purchase seems to move my RIO out 6 to 12 months. First you have to configure your over head and operational costs. Divide that number by your days of service per month and determine the amount you have to make each day to be profitable. Start there and let me know how it goes. It costs me $19.12 per month to run my entire tank, not including fish food. I'll eat that cost.
  2. I run 6x flow through the sump using a 1600gph pump. I have about 10 different macros in there, including Chaetomorpha. The flow is high enough to keep the water moving but isn't high enough to tumble the macro. If I let it grow, then I pull out about a gallon per month. I would say that as long as your water isn't stagnant then you should be okay. Chaeto is almost bulletproof. That's why people use it. I have heard that if you want it to grow super fast then you should rotate the ball, but there is almost no reason to promote growth unless you're selling it.
  3. Congrats on the Jedi Mindtrick. I picked one up myself! Is that a Red Knobby Sea Star?
  4. There are different kinds of "Reef Safe" and every fish guy has to make a choice between the two. Fish that are not reef safe are labeled that way because they either eat corals or inverts (shrimp, crabs, etc.). For example, Triggers don't eat coral but they eat all of your inverts, while Butterflies are the opposite. They are both not reef safe, but different in the reasoning. It also depends what kind of reef you want. Angelfish are not reef safe, but you can keep them with SPS. What kind of corals do you want to keep? Also, do you want ornimental inverts like different shrimp and crabs?
  5. WOW! Most marriages don't last that long, at least not anyone that I know. LOL! Any longevity tips?
  6. Great looking setup so far! The Ro/DI station is super clean and functional. I'm surprised you added a Green Coris Wrasse. I thought about having one but I read they will eat Cleaner Shrimp. You'll have to keep us updated if anything happens.
  7. Niko's is the only place I go to now. Good company is hard to find these days!
  8. Just a heads-up. Everything that is going on sale tomorrow arrived on Wednesday, however the sale prices won't be loaded into the system until tomorrow.
  9. Wait, what? I thought meeting me was everything you have ever hoped and dreamed it would be? You have no idea. I've replayed that moment in my mind countless times. You've left that open-ended enough that it can be taken a number of ways. One I'll throw out because it's a little disturbing. The other two can be good or bad. Either way, I suppose I have that effect on people. On occassion Ty sees me coming and bolts for the nearest hiding place. He has surprisingly excellent cardio!
  10. Wait, what? I thought meeting me was everything you have ever hoped and dreamed it would be?

  12. I just noticed the time of 7-8:30pm. That's after hours right? Will the exhibits be open that late or is this an equipment viewing party?
  13. I vote Tycredible! **trade mark property of Blue and Sticky 150 inc. All rights reserved, etc. etc. etc.
  14. Oh, you're PFP?!?! Nice to meet you man! Just when you thought you knew me! I'm actually thinking of changing it to something more up to date like Blue and Sticky 150. What'cha think?
  15. I typically forget my screen names so I went for the easy route. It makes it easy when I meet people from the club. I don't have to introduce myself as something crazy like, " Hi my name is Purple Fishy Pants. NIce to meet you!"
  16. How much are the bulbs and how often do you change it out?
  17. The main draw to UV sterilizers is to reduce parasites and reduce algae in the water column. Hooking up a UV won't eliminate all of the algae in your tank nor will it eliminate parasites completely because it only affects spores and free floating microbes. For example, if a fish comes in with Ich then a UV won't cure that fish or stop the spread of that parasite. If that fish rubs against the rocks and another fish comes in contact with that rock then the Ich can spread. Another example, if you have bubble algae and one gets large, bursts and spreads spores in the tank, then most of them will land before going through the UV. I'm neither for nor against the use of sterilizers. The bulbs are only supposed to last three months and they have deminishing returns as the bulb ages.
  18. UV sterilizers kill beneficial bacteria in the water column. I've heard that it can kill pods, but I can't confirm. For long-term success, you only run the UV periodocally or when a problem arises. I've known people that run them once a month as a preventative measure. It helps mitigate the cost of having one.
  19. He has a very nice tank and you can tell he really enjoys the hobby.
  20. It's almost Thanksgiving! I have family coming over and my cyano is going away. Thank God for small blessings.
  21. Fishy Friends. Having a tank is awesome, but having good people to talk to about said tank is the best! Internet. HTH did anyone do this would the internet? Group Buys. They make me Happy! Unless you have to call eight times to pay. 100% Money Back Guarantee. Buy with confidence. Garage Storage. The only thing separating your neighbors from saying "That's a nice young man" and "I think he's cooking meth in those large blue bins" Family. Being crazy isn't nearly as bad as it sounds as long as at least one person accepts you for it. GPS. I would never find any of your houses without it. Although it did lead me out into the woods once or twice. Hitchhikers. Keeping reefs interesting since forever! First Fridays. Discounts give me a reason to visit the fish store. Oh and they make me Happy! DIY. Sure I probably cause more harm than good and it probably costs more money in the end than if I bought a finished product, but it feels great when it works! High risk for looking like a fool. High return on invested time when it works!
  22. LOL! Don't try this at home kids!
  23. I agree with Jestep. It depends on how large your tank is and whether or not you can feed them. Conspecifics will fight if they have to spend too much time in the same proximity. They may also fight over a pistol shrimp if there is only one in the tank. All gobies and blennies have specialized feeding habits. Some perch and ambush prey like hawkfish, some only eat certain types of algae like the lawnmower and others sift sand so care has to be taken to ensure they are getting enough to eat without polluting the tank. In my own experience, I think gobies and blennies are like cats. You can't really get them to do what you want. They eat what they eat and come around when they feel like it. I've noticed the highest mortality rate for these fish than any others. I have had them try and swim down my lockline return line, they are known jumpers and some refuse to eat. Lawnmower blennies are easy to keep if you have enough hair algae to keep them busy for the first week. After that you can introduce Nori.
