  1. Lots of room for coral placement and open sand looks good. I like that you put the highest points directly under the lights. It'll be a good place for high light corals.
  2. Love the Naso. Did you get a male or just get lucky?
  3. Great looking rock work you have there. Are you planning to add any more or are you adding a different type of biomedia?
  4. The gaskets should always be placed on the flange side in a normal application. I believe in the Ghost and Synergy overflows you put the gasket on the outside of the aquarium in between the box and the glass. Having a gasket on the inside of the aquarium between the inside box and the glass will make the box stick out by the depth of the gasket.
  5. Haha awesome problem solving. That's one of those things you only need to learn once! Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  6. I can't think of any angelfish that eat anemones at the moment. Which one are you referring to specifically? Queen, Blue Face, Singapore and French will eat all types of corals. Emperor, Regal, and Majestic are normally safe with SPS, but may eat LPS and softies. Genicanthus species should be safe with every coral and clams. The dwarf angels vary, but I've had luck with Coral Beauty and Flame. I've heard the Flame Angelfish are hit and miss though. Give him time. Mine didn't find candy canes tasty until he started transitioning to adult form. Then he ate them like... Well... Candy canes. He devoured half a colony in 30 mins. It was actually quite impressive. Did the heads grow back or did you recycle the skeleton to the calcium reactor? I only have two heads right now as a tester piece. I've read they go kind of crazy during transition to get all of the nutritional requirements for the change. Some Emperors never change fully due to poor diet. Did your adult settle down at all?
  7. He started in reverse, picked everything at first and now zones in on pellets. They are apparently tastier. It was a good move on his part as he was a month away from being booted. This is the fish that got me into the hobby all of those years ago. I've always read that they often sample everything in the aquarium before settling in. Mine completely leaves the LPS alone, including the candy canes! I don't have any polyps so that might be his dinner bell. I should probably get a colony and try it out.
  8. Aww cute little emperor! He looks just like mine and about the same size too. Has he started picking on any corals or anything yet?
  9. I've oddly never been a fan of the queen angel. Or I should say, I've never considered it so nice that I wanted one. Truthfully, I'd never thought much of them until recently. I'm probably overdue for restocking since my tank is so fish light and everything looks good. I got my fish trap in the mail and I need to remove a damsel that's started to bite my fingers! I keep trying to talk myself into going fallow like you have, but I'm afraid to lose my wrasses. The stock that I've been getting recently hasn't been passing QT. Luckily most of them are under guarantee. How much do you charge to babysit and QT my fish?
  10. It's probably less of a factor when you have a lot of corals. He might pick on one or two, but there are so many that (hopefully) he doesn't single any out for termination. I've been thinking of getting a Lemon Butterflyfish for over a year, but I like my Euphyllias too much to take the chance. I've had my baby Emperor for three months and I haven't seen him pick on anything. I've heard that it gets worse as they are changing though. So when are you getting the Queen Angel?
  11. Awesome fish Ty! Aren't Semilarvatus supposed to be one of the most destructive butterflyfish though? When Jake first got that huge tank into the shop I told him that he should order 20 of them for a display tank. I remember him looking at me like I was crazy!
  12. Did you remove the anemone tower? I only say the one nem on the glass in the last FTS.
  13. When do you start taking orders? I make decisions all day at work and I don't want to make any more!
  14. Looks pretty good! This whole time I thought the tank on the right was an ATO reservoir, but it's actually a refugium. It looks like you've T'd off of the return line and it's going to gravity feed back into the return chamber? The aquascape looks great! Love the extra room along the perimeter.
  15. My controller went out and I started dosing kalk through my ATO about three weeks ago. The acropora and mushrooms are super unhappy, but everything else is doing great. It may be a good idea to see if you can find if other people have had any problems switching from your current method to kalk. Everything looks pretty good in your last picture. I like the aquascape! My corals normally look washed out when the nutrients are too low. What have your NO3 and PO4 readings been lately? Stunner strips used to be pretty popular for supplement lighting, but they don't provide any real PAR and it's mostly for looks. I've also heard good things about the True Lumen strips. They are powerful lights, but you'll need a splitter, power source, and dimmer to run them. The cheapest place that I've seen them is on Amazon.
  16. Apparently I make bad decisions!
  17. Are any of us good at that? I was just saying yesterday how I wished I had gone slower. Hindsight is always 20/20 and there will always be things that you'll miss or didn't think about before adding water. I'm literally about to drain my tank halfway, replace the overflow, replace the plumbing, remove the sump, paint the inside of the stand, cut two baffles out of the sump, add ventillation fans, possibly remove the canopy, and add screen tops two years after the tank has been set up. I'm planning to do it in one day, but I'll probably take me about three years.
  18. The acrylic top looks like it covers the entire rim of the tank. Are you going to hang your lights from the ceiling?
  19. The Pearly was kept at an average temp of 82. I was running t5 in 2012 and heat was a problem. They're native to the Caribbean and the temp didn't seem to bother him. I had the Tiger in my new tank where the average temp is 76. In two years the lowest I've seen it is 74. They're native to Bali and it might be a good idea to research the average temp there. There are two Jawfish that I've seen on Liveaquaria called the Dusky and Darwin Jawfish. I don't know much about those, but they're worth mentioning. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  20. I've kept Pearly and Tiger Jawfish. Both have the same requirements, but different personalities. I thought the Pearly Jawfish to be more interesting but it continually watched me. Both burrowed under a single rock that I had resting on the sand bed. One completely covered the rock with sand and I had to relocate the corals that were on it. Scott W. Michael lists Jawfish requiring 3" of mixed substrate. I personally use 20% crushed coral and 80% special grade sand. The mixed substrate adds interest and helps prevent solidifying. 21. Pretty cool! I have a friend that has one like that and it is pretty sleek. It might be a good idea for my rimless tank if I ever decided to keep fish in it. My big tank is euro braced and would need three smaller frames. I'll have to check it out sometime.
  22. Do you get a lot of algae buildup on the acrylic tops? It's been a long time since I've had glass tops and I remember cleaning salt, algae, and water off of them a lot. I currently have a canopy, but I'm not getting good enough ventilation. I could add a fan, but I am looking for less noisy options first. Screens seem popular.
  23. Great looking tank James! I wish I could have been there to help you move it. Are you going to go with an open top?
  24. Jawfish are easily one of my favorite fish and they're relatively easy to keep. In the wild they burrow in flats on the outskirts of the reef. In these areas they burrow straight down and hover over the burrow to catch passing plankton. The jawfish that we keep at home make burrows that are generally angled 45 degrees with the entrance facing the direction that you feed. Since they don't burrow straight down in our aquariums, you don't need 10" of sand. I keep mine in 3-4" and they do fine. It's best to introduce them as one of the first fish and you'll probably have to target feed them the first two weeks or so. After that they will emerge from the burrow every time you approach the tank and eat from mid way up the tank. My last tank was 31" tall and the jawfish would swim up to within 6-7" from the surface. They're really amazing fish!
  25. Jeez, you guys make me feel like a slob. I rinse in tap water, shake it dry, and put it on the drying rack and walk away. I do the same thing exactly. Rinse in tap once and put on the drying rack. Although, I can see the logic in rinse once and fill with RODI. I guess it would matter a lot for something like PO4. For Alk and Ca I'm much less worried about the test result and more worried about the consistency of the results. Personally, I've never noticed a difference from maintaining 7 dKh/400 ppm or 9 dKH and 500 ppm. I just want to see consistent readings without major changes in fluctuation.
