I like to test almost as much as Ty does water changes.

I did 4 in the past month to remove any metal contamination in my tank. After discussion with some folks on a larger forum, I may do one water change a year and replace 100% of the volume annually to suppress any build-up over time issues. Ball is in your court for the testing.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got a replacement skimmer neck cleaner for my old Vertex neck cleaner. This time I went with Reef Octopus since that's the brand of skimmer I have and also because I have replaced 2 motors already on the Vertex in 3 years and was over that.

I pulled out my vertex a couple of weeks ago to make sure it was cleaned up and ready to go and discovered the motor on my cleaner wasn't working!  Wonder if a RO would fit on a vertex.

They fit all sizes, you just measure the lid. You can also try to call Vertex and just order the motor. It cost me $50 for the motor but I had to wait until they had a unit that was returned as they don't sell it separately. When I finally came in, it didn't last for more than 1.5 years and died again so maybe go straight to the Avast Marine or Reef Octopus one and not bother with the replacement Vertex.

You have a gift! Beautiful tank! I hope to get water in mine this weekend. Maybe one day I can buy some frags from you.

Thanks Dustin! That's exciting to start a new tank! When its ready, I'd be happy to have you by for frags.

I guess I’m kind of a copy cat! I just went back to the beginning of your thread and that red stand looks very familiar... lol

Well I'm copying you and getting a sexy sump soon. [emoji4]

That's a great looking set up and a good-looking Aquascape.
