  1. I haven't set up a frag tank at a swap in a few years. @Roy V, fellow Buda/Kyle reefer, loaned me his setup that holds about 100 frags. Thanks Roy. I plan on bringing a mix of SPS (mostly acros and a couple of montis), LPS (chalices, euphyllia, and favia), and a few zoanthids if there is room.
  2. I’d guess some will make it. Those smaller species seem to recruit better than larger. Good luck!
  3. Yep, nice pics of awesome coral
  4. Gyres working great on my tanks. 250s on each end, up near water surface. Pulse mode, 0.9 s., B running opposite of A. Tank is five feet long and this setting creates a nice wave action. On a three foot frag tank, I have one Icecap 3000 set on pulse, 0.7 s, 30%, at 100% the wave will almost splash out. You just have to get the pulse at the right freq for the dimensions of each tank. ... and you have learn how to unassemble, clean, and reassemble. Seems as though engineering flaws in the early model are being addressed in more recent versions (e.g. weak cord, weak adapters between magnet spindle and gyre). much beefier now.
  5. I'm in Buda. If you want to trade for some corals, come pick some out.
  6. How's the cryptic zone creeping along?
  7. Go for it! Dunk and rinse.
  8. A spike in alkalinity? What caused it?
  9. That's what I do with my felt socks when I run them. I've been using the nylon socks more and more. Easier to clean for sure but they don't trap the smaller particles. I can't see a difference.
  10. I've been surprisingly pleased with black box LEDs (3x for a 60" SPS tank) -- four years and counting. If I had money to burn, I'd get two of the latest ecotech radions for a 36 inch tank, just based on seeing them on other's SPS tanks.
  11. Not to counter Timfish's experience and knowledge, I'd personally be more comfortable starting off with DI water from a fish store to start up your 15 gallon reef and build some experience in reefing before either purchasing an expensive RO/DI system or booting up with dechlorinated ATX water. FWIW, I'm slowly adopting some of Timfish's advice like pulling my skimmer and not running a fuge. Not there yet on the water...
  12. Just one step in long-term biodiversity conservation... https://www.sciencenews.org/article/coral-larvae-survive-being-frozen-and-thawed-first-time?tgt=nr
  13. I'd still QT/dip because of the chance of eggs not getting blasted off. I'd have to seriously question bringing that chunk of monti (loaded with nudis) into my "studio".
  14. another use for a maxijet, keep the overflow box unsettled.
  15. Available for purchase now. https://www.uwcmn.com/product-page/16-oz-purge-in-tank-acropora-eating-flatworm-treatment-pre-order-special
  16. I'm about done with hydor koralias for reef tanks. Two of mine won't spin in the right direction or won't even start without a twist then the power fades away. Cleaned thoroughly, no luck. They are a couple of years old.
  17. On the frags, which is which? I thought the video with and without filter was awesome.
  18. I think all of the BRS experiments are pseudo science on which I wouldn't base any decision, esp. to bump alkalinity to 25 (or to 12). Given two controls and two treatments (classic Hurlbert's pseudoreplication) the best you can do is make a line ; it says nothing about variation (and the way they presented the data was surprising to be nice; compare control 1 to treatment 1? smh). I appreciate that BRS is trying to break ground and perform tests on some interesting reefing questions but they don't have the capacity to draw conclusions, maybe some valuable insight, that's it. Further, if you are testing coral growth you want to make sure all the corals are growing; they had some corals that lost weight so what does that say when you compare control vs. treatment? I admit that once I understood what they were doing I ran off to clean the glass on my tank. Regardless, I'm still a fan of BRS the store and enjoy watching BRSTV but just for insight and inspiration. I shoot for 7-8 dKH.
  19. And salinity and what instrument do you use to measure it?
