  1. I would check into T5 lighting
  2. Welcome to the club and hobby You have asked a ton of questions in an amazingly short space. Congrats! 1)DO NOT get sand from the beach. You will have MANY problems if you do. Texas beaches are SOOOOO nasty. 2)There are many different types of filtration available. The most popular is the Berlin Method. Zeovit is another variation. It uses biological filtration, but does not require live rock. Hiatt filtration is another. I don't recommend this one for a reef with corals. I hope this gets you started. Post if you have any other questions.
  3. That sounds good. I think your fish are in a good place. As long as they eat I wouldn't worry about the ich until a week or so has gone by. Assuming there isn't anything else in the tank, you can raise the temp to 82ish and lower the salinity to 1.18 or so. However, their symptoms might come back once they are introduced into your reef system. Very nice fish!
  4. I would hold off on meds for right now. I would get some garlic soak for their food and try to feed them every day. Good water conditions and strong eating will clear up ich most of the time. You could also soak the food in vitamins and fatty acids. Give them some time to naturally recover before stressing them even more with meds. Especially formalin! BTW I live in South Austin and apparently take the hippie approach to helping sick fish.
  5. Not that much. J-tube $4 acrylic $10(maybe) Glue $5 Regal Plastic has a $25(if memory serves) minimum. If you come with cash on Friday they will look the other way. You can easily get enough material for an overflow in their scrap pile.
  6. 250W is a ton of light for a 29G! I am absolutely not going to say it is "too much," but I think a 150W would serve you just fine. BTW an auto top off is going to be 100% necessary. Especially over the weekends.
  7. Thanks for the announcement on the Homepage! I haven't seen the tank since the tank tour either. I am pretty stoked.
  8. If I understand correctly you would be basically building a 2x4 stand inside your current stand. I think it would work.
  9. OOPS! Thank you for the corrections.
  10. That is some tough luck. I hope you can get your 70 of the ground and get back into the swing of things!
  11. I am excited to announce we will be having our April 19th meeting in the medical office building adjacent to the Dell Children's Medical Center, called Strictly Pediatrics to see Mojo's 450G display. This tank is absolutely fantastic. John and Brian for Kingfish designed and installed the system. This meeting is an excellent opportunity to see how a LARGE aquarium is put together. There is one important thing to note. The doors of the office are locked during the weekend. We will have to escort everyone to the proper floor. So, punctuality is a must. The meeting will start at 2pm. All attendees will need to meet in the parking lot between 1:30-1:45. We will not be able to take anyone up after 2:15. If you arrive at 2:30 I can assure you no one will be available to let you in. There is a covered parking garage sandwiched in between the hospital and the office building, and it's free on the weekend. Here are the details April 19th 2pm(in parking lot by 1:45pm) Strictly Pediatrics 1301 Barbara Jordan Blvd. suite 400, Austin, TX 78723 450G Peninsula display! John from Kingfish will of course give us a complete tank tour(inside and out) and answer any questions. He will also discuss his water changing techniques. Here is a map(google maps seems to think the hospital is in La Grange, TX when in fact it is in central Austin)
  12. I know HD has them. They are called utility sinks. They are super cheap and have amazingly easy hook-ups. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores...uctId=100415928
  13. Looks good. I hope the wait was worth it. Euroreefs kick butt! So are you able to take the cup off at all? cmanning- A float switch inside the collection container that is normally closed will do the same thing. Basically a reverse auto top-off. Those giant skimmers on RC all have it.
