  1. Well I am taking down my 67 gallon. Blog for pics Here is the equipment for sale: Lighting: TEK Light 36" 8 Bulb T5 fixture. $300 Bulbs are 10 months old. They are all high quality. 2. Thank you Lee! The presentation of snails was fantastic! Inverts rules! Everyone that wasn't there missed out.
  3. Light on a fish only is only for your enjoyment. I ran HomeDepot screw in florescents over ours. it worked and was cheap. If I were in your positions I would just use the T5s and be done. JMO
  4. I got an email from the hacked maast site. Hopefully, the security holes have been addressed.
  5. That would be sweet. OR you could host the August meeting!
  6. Welcome to the club and hobby. First you don't have to have live rock/sand in a QT tank. Some would say it is better not to because of the types of medication you might have to use. Second keeping it as a small reef kind of defeats the purpose. For example if you have to use copper to treat ick you will harm many creatures in your reef. Also, you would have to supply sufficient lighting to keep a reef. As far using a 30 gallon. It depends on what size fish you plan to quarantine. If 30 gallons won't stress them out more then you are fine. I would start the reef first. It will need time to cycle. The QT won't
  7. Welcome to the club. In can assure the austin area has some great LFS.
  8. Do you have an Auto-topoff? I was "fighting" this issue as well. I thought it was the light, temp, etc.. When I added an ATO it seemed to "calm" every thing down. This is purely anecdotal, but I believe in ATOs anyway. Really, it isn't a bad thing. If the corals still have color then your cool. sweet crab pic!
  9. We will be having our July meeting At Lee Hoy place. Thank you Lee! Here are the details [address removed] Lee will be talking about shelled invertebrates. He will discuss the differences between Ceriths, Nerites, Turbo's, etc. It should be fun. Please RSVP in this thread if you plan to attend.
  10. Have you tried Ryan Herco behind the Coca Cola bottling?
  11. I would agree that it is reef safe.
  12. That SUCKS! I wish I had a chiller for you. Here are some other things to try: 1) Reduce light cycle to bare minimum(6ish hours) 2) run lights at night 3) Get big box fans to blow air toward the surface of the water 4) float bags of ice in the tank 5) If you have metal halides, with actinic supplementation run only the supplemental lighting maybe replace with 10000K bulbs.
  13. Congrats on the big tank and GIANT stand! Andrew-Your welcome to come with me BTW That was HEAVY!
  14. dont' use your return pump has the main source of circulation. Lower flow rate through the sump will give your skimmer/fuge, other reactors more dwell time and you will have more success. I have 2 Koralia4s and love them.
  15. I might take the pump off and clean it. It could be clogged. Is the media still tumbling? What is the pH in the reactor? Is what still coming out of the effluent? Are you getting enough what from what ever is feeding the reactor?
  16. 10:30 am Actinics on 11 am Daylights on 9 pm Daylights off 10 pm Daylights off If I run the lights longer then this I get CRAZY algae on the sides of the tank.
  17. I am positive you could build one of these
  18. The only problem with damsels is they get MEAN! I would recommend a tank raised clown or a pair. IT will get you used to feeding fish and tank raised clowns don't get mean. For corals try some mushrooms. Congrats on the tank!
  19. I have seen them at the home depot. 22' is the max head for an 18. so maybe, probably not.
  20. Open another lonestar and hold the pittbull close(she's scared of thunder)!
