I would use ro/di. This is an expensive hobby. Buy pure water to start your system. It will be worth it in the long run

I changed to the mesh a couple months ago and like them. They are much easier to clean and are the same 200 micron as the felt. I get them from BRS.

Epsom salt is a good cheep source of magnesium sulfate. I would be good to find a source of magnesium chloride also.

Ich is almost always present in our systems. It effects fish that are stressed from their environment. Sometimes from moving to a new tank or new tank mates. It can also be caused by changes in water parameters or temperature swings. My Purple Tang had it after he was in my tank for a few days. He showed no signs of ich when I bought him and I have not had a fish with ich in 5-6 years. I added garlic to the food and fed well for about 2 weeks, everything cleared up and he is doing well.

I had a small yellow goby that I lost for 4 months and found alive in mine. He died about 2 weeks after returning to my tank.

I would let the skimmer work for a while and see how it helps with export. Live sand is kind of a crock. It sits in a bag for months and really does not have much if anything alive in it. I think a good investment would be a Ro/Di unit. Having the ability to make your own water helps to keep up with water changes and general husbandry of your system. It is an investment that will save you money in a very short amount of time if you just figure the time and gas going to and from the stores.

I also use the minced garlic from HEB. I just put a few drops of the juice on the food as it thaws, then use the pieces of garlic for me.

If you feel you need more than ro water you can add a little vinegar to the water

I would not use that pump, it is a septic pump and not made for a sw tank. A 1 1/2" drain pipe will handle up to 1200gph. Stick with pumps designed for aquarium use.

The exact amount is not that critical. Crush the pill divide it into 4 parts (100g each). Then use the amount you need based on your total volume

Cyano is a bacteria that is feed by the by products of waste in your tank. It does seem to have photo type properties about it.I don't know if that is due to it using Oxygen during the day and producing CO2 and then using CO2 at night or what the correlation is. It would seem that if you increase the amount of beneficial bacteria in you system to compete with the cyano for the nutrients you would lessen it's ability to thrive. This seems like it could easily be accomplished by using a product like Stability or by carbon dosing(vodka dosing). Vodka dosing creates an over abundance of one dominant type of bacteria that will choke out other types of good bacteria and requires the addition of other bacterial strains. It seems that it could have the same effect on cyano. Just one of those things running around in my head
