    Gone. Thanks
  2. Wow, thanks for the great replies. My coral is doing well, the tank is just on 6 months now (I'm a fresh water guy trying to convert) , I have hot tamales, eagle eyes..and some unknown zoa, a Kenya tree which now has broken off to 4 stalks (I'm thinking its like a weed) and another pink softie that has also spawned to another stalk. My shrimp, starfish and snails all seem to be doing well. Fish are another story, I've tried a few and have had ick twice now.. leaving a lone PJ ruling the tank. thanks, just didn't know if I should be worrying and doing some corrective action. Mike
  3. Hey gang, I noticed that the corlline algae in my tank that was doing so well is starting to disappear. I bought a new power head about 4 weeks ago and it has no growth on it yet. In one area of the tank the algae looks like it is starting to turn white. Have made no real changes other than adding the power head to (hopefully) rid one area of the tank of some red slime. What else is going on? Help! - any advice? Mike
  4. Thanks for the advice...I live and learn. Mike
  5. Hi, I'm a conferted freshwater guy, I just added 2 PJ Cardinals to my 10 week old salt tank. I noticed "salt" specks on them the other day..and my Kore Tang started acting eratic, cardinals are not scratching yet. Looks like Ick, not sure how to treat it without copper..I have corel, and invertbra in the tank.. if it were fresh, I would raise the temp and treat with malachite..not really sure what to do with the salt tank and not harm everything that I've gained. any help?? Mike

    What fish

Hey, My tank is now about 8 weeks old, and I think cycling right ( went through brown and now some red algae). My little bit of coral looks healthy and plan on adding a little more. I have a damsel and a Begga Cardinal... I would like to add another fish (48 gallon tank). I saw a Copperband Butterfly and thought..yes! then I researched and said..not yet.. any recommendations on something that is cool for a beginner..was thinking Trigger fish..? Mike

    Brown Algae

My tank has been set up for about 7 weeks and I thought things were going well. I went on a business trip and when I came back the tank was full of brown algae... I was told this is part of the cycling process and just keep doing weekly water changes with RO water..any other advise? Should I try to remove the algae from the substate and aquarium walls? It looks terrible! Mike
  8. I'm just starting out and I have a 48 gallon tank that came with a 17" floresent light with 2 18" hood openings (standard petsmart tank).. I am looking for some bulbs and or hoods to acomidate a mix tank. Not exactly sure what I need, want to do soft coral, live rock and fish...any help or advise? Mike
