I want to get a light to support a refugium on the back of my nano tank. The links I was using on how to build a reguigum are kind of old and I can no longer find the lights they talk about. What requirements should I look for in the light? I just want to have something simple with cheato. Thanks for any input.
If anyone wants to sell something below or has an opinion or idea about a different way to go I would like to hear from you.
Things I am looking for include
Skimmer
Overflow box
rock (live or dead)
sand (live or dead)
T5 lights or Metal halides (can't determine best way to go here)
I got a 75 gallon oceanic tank stand and I want place it where you can see it between two rooms (like a divider). I am looking for a way to conceal some/all of the plumbing and cords. I can not drill it as I found out the bottom of the tank is tempered. I have a stand but no canopy. I thought it might be good to build a canopy and perhaps something on one or both of the narrower sides (not the viewing sides).
I have a 24 gallon nano cube and I am trying to make a refugium in my middle chamber. I need a small amount of cheato to get started. If anyone could spare a little that would be awesome.
Thanks!
I didn't have much success with the method on this site. I am now going to try turning my middle chamber of my nano cube into a refugium. Anyone have experience with this or willing to donate some cheato once it is completed? I won't need much, a handful at the very most.

I'm curious to know peoples thoughts about this type of rock. What differences are there between it and more typical live rock (assuming this can be used like live rock)?
I have one that I would like to sell. It has been fairly easy to care for. You have to feed it and limit the amount of light that it gets.
It is cool, but attached to a big rock and has been occupying my quarantine tank for a while due to space limitations in my other tank.
Lpantz, I like the evaporation idea. Good thinking there, I might have to try that.
Joshman, sorry dude, but at least you know now. Hopefully there is not to much salt in the soil or you might have to replace some of the soil/dirt in your backyard.
I was doing a water change on my saltwater tank today and started wondering what other people do with their old salt water. Does anyone else do something with it besides dumping it the gutter or down the drain? I saw some people up north tried to use it to deice driveways, but they just fell on their ***** while going to their cars.
I have fresh water fish as well and use their old water to water plants. The plants really seem to love it. I believe salt is generally bad for plants, but I'm not sure about the concentration at which we use it in our tanks.
First of all...WOW a 500 gallon system, I'm jealous.
Do you remember who made the chiller and any idea how much it increased your electric bill? Also, was it like the evaporative AC units they have in dryer areas of the country?
Thanks for the posting. I was in San Antonio today and had some extra time. I wasn't sure which stores to check out, and then I remembered this thread. I went by to check out B&B Aquatics and Aquarium Designs. Both places have some cool corals.
Aquarium Designs feels a little more like a high end fish store. Not sure if it was the interior or just the prices . If you are just going site seeing this is the place to go. Makes me feel better about our lfs and what they charge. If you would like to actually buy anything I would recommend stopping by B&B.
*****A note I spoke to a guy at B&B and he was actively making frags for the maast meeting in San Marcos. They are apparently one of the sponsors and will be selling them at the meeting.
I've been curious about this myself and have done some research. It seems that a lot of places that temper glass put a logo on the glass.
Also, it seems that if you use a polarized film or sunglasses in daylight you can see a rainbow pattern in the tempered glass. Supposedly you are not supposed to wear sunglasses while driving because of this effect.
Something else I have seen people talk about is taking it to a glass shop and they should be able to tell you.
I know its a little late to hear this, but perhaps it will help someone in the future.
It is a little pricey at $375. The website says it replaces a 175 watt halide with no heat or ballast. Looks to plug into a standard light bulb socket. Someone on here was talking about using them on their tank. Maybe we can see how it goes for him/her.
