  1. Dena, My Tyree LE Blue Chalice was doing ok in my 24g nano cube under the standard 2x32WCF bulbs. Now it is doing great with the 70W halide I bought from you a few months ago. Also, I had a small piece of the chalice break off and is doing good. I was a little afraid for it at first, but it has a few mouths and has been growing. John
  2. It looks like all the ones on ebay using the search parameters are made by Odyssea. I don't have any experience with this brand. I think someone was selling some lights by this brand a few weeks ago.
  3. PM sent edited - have to pass, just a bit to long for my stand.
  4. Good points on the auctions. I like the idea of posting when ordering something off ebay. That would make it easy to know if you were bidding against someone or do a group buy. Would we need a new forum for ebay/auction sites so they would be organized and easy to find?
  5. In regards to Bill's post, what do you all think of some kind of agreement not to bid on each others corals? We could keep it really simple. Have a post somewhere with ebay names we wouldn't bid against. Just to avoid driving up prices against someone else in Austin (or surrounding area) who might be willing to sell a frag later . Or perhaps list what ebay name you are using, so two people bidding on the same thing can work something out instead of making each other crazy.
  6. I've seen the same as princer7. They like to eat Spectrum pellets. The pellets are pretty cheap, last a while, and most of my fish eat them too as part of their diet.
  7. Do they get moved around a lot? Do you have them attached with super glue gel so they will not move in your tank? Its something basic, but something I didn't know at first. They don't seem to like being moved and do much better when "permanently" attached.
  8. I'll take the frogspawn. And any extra salt that Danny doesn't want. I live just south of Round Rock. I can meet you some where in between or at RCA.
  9. I have to agree having a big sump is best, not just the over flow advantages. I'm looking into setting up a new tank right now and want a sump around 50% of the tank size. I was just thinking about other ways to help people out with some flooding problems. I've come across a few threads with this happening. Some in apartments and some being out of town. The worst one I read was a second floor apt flooding and leaking in the apt downstairs. Having a check valve fail would be the biggest issue, but you could do things to help with this. Putting two in series and/or replacing them somewhat regularly. For most of us replacing them seems like a big task, but for apartment dwellers who move and take the tank apart anyway this might be a good option. Robbing the flow was something that I had thought about. I hadn't done any math on it, but realized there would be some loss there.
  10. I am curious if anyone uses or has used check valves in the aquarium setup. I think they could aid in some of the overflow problems people have. In case you are unfamiliar with what a check valve is it restricts flow of water to one direction. Here is more detailed information from wikiapedia. A check valve, clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve is a mechanical device, a valve, which normally allows fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction. Check valves are two-port valves, meaning they have two openings in the body, one for fluid to enter and the other for fluid to leave. There are various types of check valves used in a wide variety of applications. Check valves are often part of common household items. Although they are available in a wide range of sizes and costs, many check valves are very small, simple, and/or cheap. Check valves work automatically and most are not controlled by a person or any external control; accordingly, most do not have any valve handle or stem. The bodies (external shells) of most check valves are made of plastic or metal.
  11. Looking for a 6ft tank with/without stand and canopy (width is flexible). Send me a PM if you have a tank or stand and canopy.

    Free Sand

I can meet you at RCA today. Give me a call. Will PM you my number.
  13. Yeah, free items on craigslist typically go fast. I thought with the size and weight of this one it might stick around longer.
  14. Just saw this posting on CraigsList for a free 300 gallon tank. Thought I would post it on here incase anyone was intrested. This is not my CraigsList posting. I can't use a tank this size, but I know some of you could. I am pretty free these days and might be able to help moving it also. Details 300+ gallon fish tank. All glass = 3/4" sides; 1" bottom. Too heavy for me to move. Bring your burly buddies and take it FREE. Call 512-913-8633 Link got to Craigs list and run a search on this number 1092784274. It is the posting number (can't post links on ARC).
  15. I would add the shrimp/goby first as well. It would make it easier for them to pick their spot and also find each other. IMO they are pretty entertaining also, just make sure you don't have anything (like corals) on the sand bed that you don't mind being buried. My pistol shrimp loves to dig holes and bury things. Maybe I should change his name to Fido .
  16. I don't have one, but I have seen them on craigslist typically starting around 100. I've seen one or two around 75. Not sure what you were looking to pay.
  17. I'm not sure if you still want to try and get your clowns to adopt the anemone. I had a similar thing happen when I got an anemone for my clowns. They were in the tank for about 3 weeks together. The clowns were oblivious to the LTA. Then I got a wrasse for the tank and the wrasse started interacting with the clowns. Nothing dangerous from what I have read, just normal behavior from a wrasse. Anyway within an hour after he started interacting with him my clowns they went to the anemone. It was like the wrasse sparked something in them. I later read that wrasse touch other fish and get the fish more comfortable with being touched. The clowns still interact with the wrasse, but boy they love the anemone now. They even feed it.
  18. If you want a drill to use underwater and not to expensive try an old fashioned push drill. It uses your mechanical energy from pushing on the handle to turn the drill bit. Haven't used one since I was around 10 so can't say for sure how much pressure it takes, but I don't think you have to push hard. I haven't seen one in years, but you can still buy them. $10 on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007MX2B0/ref=as...mp;linkCode=asn
  19. Thanks, but I'm also looking to use it between two rooms, like a room divider. I'm not sure how well a bow front would work.
  20. Looking for a 75 or 90 gallon tank. Has to be drilled or not tempered. Also, looking for one with no backing or paint or which can be removed. I currently have a empty 75 gallon oceanic but it has a tempered bottom. Looking to buy or possibly trade.
  21. I ran across this link when I was looking for ways to add a refugium to the back of my nano. Pretty good instructions on how to grow it in the back chambers. Here it is in case it helps. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=70138 I looked a little for the light used in this DIY but opted for one I found at Home Depot that was cheap and had a clamp.
  22. I have cheato in a 24 gallon nano cube. I have it in the middle chamber. I used a razor blade to cut the vinyl backing and a light and lamp from Home Depot to help it grow. Pretty easy mod.
  23. I'm should be there also. My first ARC meeting. Anything I can bring?
  24. Gallery of Pets has some saltwater stuff as well. It has a smaller selection than the others but it would be on the way for you to RC on 183.
