  1. I just picked off about 3 of them about a week ago that were growing up around my tubbs zoo's. I have had them a various times in the past, always getting rid of them, and considered them a nuisance as if left alone, they seem to start taking over and killing off anything near them. I didn't know they were supposed to be rare. I saw one eat a hermit crab that had left its shell and gotten too close while on its way to its new shell. I think they are a type of Paly. Stephen
  2. The problem with Berghia is they only eat Aiptasia (and I can't remeber if they eat the larger ones or not), but once they have eaten all the Aiptasia, unless you are willing to set up a jar or small tank for them with plenty of Aiptasia in it, they will starve to death. They are also very hard to come by, you have to get them online. I've never seen a LFS carry any. I agree with Truckin, I tried the Peppermint shirmp and they didn't seem to make a dent in them. Stephen
  3. I like Anthony Calfo's "Coral" magazine. But instead of buying the magazine, you can get a lot more education in one place with his book, or Julian Sprung's book. Stephen
  4. I've had several skimmers (including the big Elos one) and keep coming back to the Euro-Reef. IMO you can't go wrong with one, and from I understand if you want to go used you can normally find an RS80 (? - whatever their smaller one is) on one of the threads (ACR, MAAST, RC). Stephen
  5. What does "billet" mean? Agree on the submersible opinion too. Sedra, Gen-X, and Ehiem all make skimmer pumps. I have had experience with Ehiem and Gen-X (thru my Euro-Reef) and was happy with both. Stephen
  6. Also, you could jump on the Group Order to Marine Depot Mark is doing. We think we will hit the free shipping threshold. Even if we don't, would be a lot less than $10 by the time we split it up. Stephen
  7. I assume you have already tried River City or Aquatek? I wouldn't be surprised to find it at a PetsSmart, either (but maybe not). Stephen
  8. Yes, I was looking at that. I might go with the smaller size. I threw the smaller size in a cart and for whatever reason they don't charge the extra with the smaller amount. If I go with the smaller size of mud, there are probably a some other items I'll get. Stephen
  9. Duh. Soory about that. Can you tell I'm tired Stephen
  10. Mark, what is the free shipping threshold and how much do we have so far. Am considering getting some Fiji Mud, which I think is about $60. Stephen
  11. I'm pretty sure I have some Lugol's, and am certain I have Tropic Marin Coral Cure. I'm in Cedar Park (near Avery Ranch), if you wanted to come out that far. Stephen
  12. There are way more impurities and pollution in that water than a barrel and live rock could ever take out. It would take a pretty extensive filtration system to really get in clean again. With what said filtration system would cost, you could buy salt for 100 - 150 years. Stephen
  13. Clint, Are you saying your corals have lost color after about 2 months of Vodka dosing, or did I mis-read your post? Stephen
  14. That looks to be the same one. I wonder if it was an individual. I looked at the "Other Items", but the seller didn't have anything else. Someone got a good deal. Stephen
  15. What did you do to get so many pods going? Stephen
  16. I'd have to see that to believe one would sell for that low. I would have bought it for that just for the 2-1260 Ehiem pummps. You can find stuff on the skimmers on the Elos forum on RC. Just look through the threads there. Stephen
  17. That's what came with the 200 gal Elos system I have. If you decide to buy one, let me know first. I might be willing to let it go and save you a bunch of $$. Stephen
  18. Yes, I have a 4000, that I'm not using right now, although I might be as a second skimmer in the future. Anyway, I did a re-circ mod on my Euro-Reef RS 180 and have never looked back. I just couldn't ever seem to get the Elos turned right. Stephen
  19. I'm reading Anthony Calfo's book, The Book of Coral Propogation. I'm only a 1/3 thru it and have already picked up a lot of great information, including things I never thought twice about that I have been doing wrong. Stephen
  20. Hey Gabriel. I didn't realize Copperbands had such a high mortality rate. I knew they were delicate, but not to the extreme you described. I guess the fact that I got this one geeting from my hand is probably lucky, cause if left to its own the other fish (Tangs, Wrasses, and others) would out compete him for the food. Stephen
  21. BTW, the Copperband is also one of my favorite fish. She is a real sweetheart and eats out of my hand. Stephen
  22. I had no luck with Peppermints either, but my Copperband Butterfly has worked great. It's my second one, and they are delicate and hard to keep, but for Aptasia they work great. BTW, does the Garf stuff work on Paly's? I know it sound horrible, but I've got blue Paly's in my tank that have really become a nuisance. I've tried Joe's Juice and the other stuff (Blue something?), and they both knock them back for a while, but the little buggers always recover, even with repeated doses. Stephen
  23. ZZ = 1 TSP per 200 gal (adjust accordingly) Snow = 1 ml per 50 gal Bac = 1 drop per 25 gal Add components to about 40 ml RO/DI water, shake for about 30 seconds, add directly to the tank (it will cloud it up - that's OK) For 7 days I did this every day. After 1 week, I backed off to once or twice a week (only doing once a week now). Disclaimer: Check out the Zeovit forum and read up on it, then make your own decision. It has worked well for me. Stephen
