  1. Gabriel, I have used that accelarator on plastic models before but never on/in the tanks. Do you know if there is anything in it that would be toxic for the tank water? Stephen
  2. Hey Carlos, what are "Second Grade Acropora"? Stephen I'm really hoping someone doesn't reply with "not first grade...".
  3. Just thought about this thread and thought to go look for it. Hadn't realized you had replied. I never got an email. I guess with the new site, I need to go in and change my profile again so I get emails. Anyway, I'll take a look at it, but I haven't coded in years and never did APs, but if it looks anyway sensible to me I will holler. Stephen
  4. James, Can you post the link to the thread on RC about converting the wireless router to a controller? Stephen
  5. hmmm... Gabriel, What time to you normally dose, and is it with lights on or off? Hey Joseph! Is the offer still open to lend me the Nutribrach to work on those Aiptasia's? Stephen
  6. I've been using B-Ionic for 2 days now, and it seems like both the Euro-Reef and the Deltec go nuts when I turn them back on (even after waiting about 30 minutes with them off) after dosing with the B-Ionic. Is this normal? Should I wait a longer period before turning on the skimmers? Since I don't want to leave them off longer than I have to, is there any reason why I can't do the DT's and any coral food at the same time? Stephen
  7. Thanks to everyone who replied. After pulling out about 90% of the rock and corals, we finally got him. He is now the proud position of a very nice young couple who is just getting into the hobby, and have no corals (they have a FOWLR tank). Stephen
  8. As I get the 130 shut down getting ready for the larger tank, I'm going to end up with more LR than my other 2 tanks can hold, and will want to use it in the new tank. What is required to keep this LR live? I figure at least a heater and pump or powerhead. Will I need to kept a light on it as well? If so, how much and how many hours a day? Stephen
  9. Well, Gabriel warned me, further confirmed by Brain and John, and now that we know what to look for there is no doubt. I have a BiColor Angel that is decimating my corals. I need to get rid of this bad boy, very badly. Catching would be preferred, but I need him gone, no matter how. While many of the fish in this tank will virtually eat out of my hand, this SOB is elusive and shy as you could get. He just sees me walk up to the tank and is gone under the rocks. Any (and I mean any) ideas would be greatly appreciated. Stephen
  10. This is pretty interesting. They may not throw the pretty colors, but might be great for a frag or growing tank. Has anyone tried them yet? Hey Mike. Saw where you said you were getting your 400g soon. Congrats! Stephen
  11. Someone on the other site said he uses lemon juice and its been 100% effective. Stephen
  12. Just used the last of my current supply. Is this still considered the best for Aiptasia and Mojano's? Stephen
  13. On the tank I recently acquired, the top has a lip around it as all acrylic tanks I have seen has. The front and sides are about 4" wide, with the back 6" wide, and a portion in the center that is 6" wide. My question is if acrylic tank sides, bottom, and top are basically "welded" together, does the top lip have to be that wide? It leaves very little to be able to access the tank, and I was wondering if the top could be cut back so that there was about 2" or 3" lip with no section in the center. Stephen
  14. I ordered, and have received the Fauna Marin product, UltraLith. Part of their process is to have an aggressive skimmer. Since I haven't received the Deltech Turbo (used) I recently acquired, I haven't started the UltraLith yet. As soon as I get the skimmer up and running, I plan to try this in the Corner tank I have the bad Nitrate problem in. John, I was seriously considering using the Reefresh, but since I knew you were already trying it, I thought I would try one of the competitors and report the results back to the group. I should have the skimmer by next week, so I'll post an update when I get it started. Stephen
  15. Is it considered part of the Fairy Wrasse family? Stephen
  16. I was going to send you Hobogato's (Ace) info, but Gabriel already beat me to the punch. I have seen it and its gorgeous. Shoot him a PM, he is a super nice guy and very helpful. Stephen
  17. OK, so when I start to figure the tank flow rate I need, I should totally disregard the flow rate part that I have going to and returning from the sump? Stephen
  18. I judiciously wrote it down on a card, and of course now I can't find the card. You may be right, it may be the Ehiem 1262. Bruce recommended an even slower flow rate for the tank-sump-return than you did, but I'm trying to hit the medium but also making sure its big enough for the larger tank when I get it set up. My jaw dropped when he told me I would only need 3/4 inch PVC or tubing, considering the huge piping I have now. Stephen
  19. Without hurting my ability to sell off these pumps here or on the "other" site, I think I have already made my decision. I talked to Bruce today at Aquatek, and I will be starting by getting an Ehiem 1272 from him tomorrow for the tank/sump return. I would be getting 2 Tunze 6100's and the Multicontroller 7095, but he and Tunze here are out of stock for the next couple of weeks. I'm going to try to make up the flow with a couple of Mag 4's I have. If that doesn't work, and I can't wait a couple of weeks, I will order the Tunze's from Marine Depot, unless anyone has one or two they want to sell. I have seen, experienced, and now dealt with closed loop systems , and have painfully realized they are not for me. Stephen
  20. Thanks John. That helps big time in figuring what I want to do. For total tank turnover for a tank that is going to be primarily SPS, should I figure 40x, or more? Stephen
  21. PM'd you. I still don't understand how much GPH I need to figure for the tank/sump return. Stephen
  22. Other than aesthetics? Are there any other advantages? For those of you that helped me move the tank this weekend, I am getting to dislike this closed loop system more and more, by the day. Before I decide to can it, and get me some Tunze Streams or Nano-streams, I want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Also, what is the turn-over calculation for the sump? Stephen
  23. There is a thread on the "other" central Texas site about a group of them going to Port A on a "Collection Trip". I don't know about contamination issues (but with several petro-chemical plants down there it could be an issue), but when I read the other thread I remember wondering about the legal issues, and even the ethical issues. As far as any ethical issues, I'm still flopping around in my mind on that one. I own corals that were collected, and although I do try to buy aqua-cultured where ever I can, I'm sure I will continue to buy corals that were collected. So, I'm probably sounding like a hypocrite here, but there is something about going to Port A and collecting corals that just doesn't "feel" right. I can't put my finger on it, and maybe I'm just full of it, but it just gives me an uneasy feeling for some reason. Stephen
  24. I just wanted to be sure and thank everyone for the help with the tank move Sunday. The tank is not completely set up yet, but we have the rock & coral in, most of the water, and I should be able to get the rest online in the next couple days. All the major pieces are in place. Thanks again to: Wryknow GKarshens Headless_Donkey APmark ...and finally Shane Lafferty (who I bought the system from), who was indespensible in helping get it set back up at my place. Stephen
