  1. +2 on getting the fresh air. Good point Mark. Stephen
  2. Just wait. There are cloudy days over the reef too. Its more important to keep the bad stuff out of the water. A day or two without lights won't hurt the corals. Stephen
  3. I have 2 T5s in my current light rack, but the new one I'm building I will have 4 VHOs. From what I have been able to determine, although the T5s are more efficient, you can get more power with the VHOs, hence my decision to change to them. Stephen
  4. Dang, and I was going thru Elgin earlier today . Yes, I would like to seeit. I'll PM you in the next few weeks and see if we can arrange something. Stephen
  5. Hydro, Without asking you to repeat anything you might have already talked about on other threads, can you point me to any of your threads or other info that talks about using water cooling for MHs? I currently have 2x400W MHs and am building a new light rack that will have 3x400W MHs (plus 4X140W VHOs) and would be very interested in how I might could use water cooling to reduce heat and possibly save electricity. Stephen
  6. Well, here is my take on this. None of us like to pay the sometimes ridiculous prices we pay for reef stuff. However, if everyone started buying chinese (or whatever country) knockoffs, i.e. probably stolen and copied technology, then don't complain when companies like Euro-Reef, Deltec, Tunze, and others stop developing the better technologies because everyone opts to buy the cheap knockoffs and copied (read stolen) designs they have invested in developing. Stephen
  7. Bump...and asking for feedback. Am I asking too much for these? I will accept a lower but reasonable offer. Stephen
  8. Looking forward to seeing this one. Stephen
  9. I have a large piece of Grape Idaho, and two rocks of Star Polyps for sale. The Grape Idaho is 5.5” long, and one about 3” long, but I would be willing to break it up into smaller pieces based on interest. 5.5” piece - $80 3” piece - $30 I also have two rocks covered in Star Polyps. One rock is over 4’ long, the other is much larger and I would need help removing it, hence I probably won’t touch it unless I have a real buyer. 4” piece - $50 Large piece - $80 I have other pieces as well I would be willing to sell frags of on the spot to anyone purchasing any of the above. Thanks for looking. All pics were done under actinics, as my MHs had not come on yet. Stephen
  10. Will, At least this hobby doesn't leave you with a hang over in the morning. KeeperofTheZoo, Thanks for remembering Stephen
  11. I have the same concerns, and I have a KZ test kit and have never been sure about the readings when I was using it. I'll be interested to see what others say. One way to mitigate it is doing the weekly WCs with a high quality salt. At least that way I don't worry about overdosing on it. Stephen
  12. If it is the one I'm thinking it is, I have the large size one that has never been used that I will be happy to sell you for less than the retail price. I had heard good things about them (that is why I bought one), although there is apparently some tweaking at the start that needs to be done. I just never set it up and used it, as I decided to go a different direction. Stephen
  13. Also, for people who have not used it before, take John's advice well. You WILL use different Zeo products at very different rates. I would sggest going to the Zeo site and downloading the manual, and figure out what you will use based on the recommendations in the manual. A couple of examples: I went thru the Amino LPS nano size in 3 days based on the recommendations. I use 8 drops of Amino concentrate a day, whereas I use 8 MLS of the Pohl's extra a day (big difference - although I love that stuff) Also, you can probably treat every other day, instead of every day, and still get a lot of benefit out of it. I don't (I know I could, but I do it every day). Stephen
  14. Hey John, is there a way to tell what size bottles we have so we can figure what to order? I've been looking and can't see the size marked anywhere on any of them. Stephen
  15. Clint. I've been meaning to send these questions into the Zeo forum, but I'm being lazy and didn't want to fill out that long form, so I thought I would ask you: These all pertain to a non-Zeo system... PIF = Potassium Iodide Flouride, correct? If you are using PIF, do you still recommend using K-Balance (Potassium)? Between Coral Food and Vitalizer, which do you recommend, or both? If you are using the Amino Concentrate, do you also recommend using Amino LPS? After the basic 4 (SP, Amino, Vitalizer, and Xtra), which supp would you recommend going to next? Do you test your Potassium levels? I have heard you can OD a tank using Potassium. BTW, I've done my 2nd WC with the TM Bio-Actif salt, and am already beginning to see a difference. Maybe next time we can get John and Brian to do a group buy on it. Stephen
  16. I dosed 1/2 the recommended amount. We have never been able to pin point it was the cause, but the hypothesis is that it could possibly have caused my tank not to complete its cycle. There are other people who have supposedly had tank crashes from it as well. Stick with the Pohl's Xtra for color. I'm very happy with it. The Spur2 has been the only Zeovit product I MAY have had issues with. Stephen
  17. Mark, Stay away from the Spur2. Long story (and not a good one) I'll tell you about some time. the rest of the ZeoVit stuff I'm very happy with. Maybe Clint will get in on it too. Stephen
  18. Is it too late to have them add to it, since I figure they aren't shipping any earlier than Monday? Stephen
  19. Well, it looks like I got beat to the punch. I would have have liked to get him as well. Stephen
  20. Let us know what you want for the other one since the Lunar is gone. Also, why are you getting rid of them. Fairy Wrasses are one fish you can't have too many of, IMO. Stephen
  21. Sorry about that. You are right, I was thinking about IceCap's dimmable VHO ballasts. The dimmable MH ballast is the knob on the side. Stephen
  22. I have CoralVue and IceCap are definitely brighter. I have the two side-by-side with the same bulbs and there is a definitely difference. As far as the dimmable one, that one will only work the dimmable part with a certain controller, one that I had heard of before and not any of the well known ones (like profilux, reefkeeper, autonautica, etc.). When I get a few hundred to spare I plan on buying another icecap and just keep the coralvue as a spare for back-up. Stephen
  23. Mine has a deep blue base and pink polyps. Where did you get yours from? Stephen
