  1. I second this. I have pvc going through mine but same idea. Over the years it's been really handy to easily slide whatever rock off to swap it with a new one or just clean it off or frag a coral or whatever. Plus nothing's shifted unexpectedly in 5 years.
  2. I was wondering if the tank lights would work! That's amazing. It would be great if it did the trick. This is nightmare material for me. Over here I have 4 little boys running around my in wall tank that's mostly exposed on 4 sides 😬
  3. I wouldn't know what to do either. Just wanted to say that really sucks. I'm glad you noticed it though. Any idea how they got there?
  4. It's really cool to see comparisons like that! Everything looks good. We need to see a fts!
  5. Sorry about your fish ☹️ That was a long time to have him.
  6. 😂 Not everyone has their priorities straight!
  7. That water change set up sounds amazing! I'm still pushing around brute cans and dealing with tubing 😂 My tank is doing great these days. I'm getting it back in to shape. I still have one of your Tonga branch rocks in my sump! Everything is looking really good! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the stand finished and what you do with the canopy. What do you use the space underneath for, if anything?
  8. Wow! This thread hasn't seen any action in almost 7 years 😁 Kinda fun to be reminded of it. It's good to hear that a tank that deep is manageable!
  9. That looks great. It's coming along nicely!
  10. How's the tank doing these days? I'd love to see an update!
  11. I was reading one of the papers Timfish linked and found this: "It is heat-stable, not inactivated by boiling, and is stable in neutral aqueous solutions for prolonged periods, however a rapid decomposition occurs under acid or alkaline conditions, leading to loss of its toxicity"
  12. Can you take the duncans off and swap the rock out? That's a for sure way to be rid of them. If it's a rock you want to keep, what about letting it bake in the sun for a while?
  13. Gorgeous tank, wow! I really like the clear back also.
  14. Wow, that gave it a completely different look! Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  15. Looking good! For your next water change see if you can syphon out some of that gha and maybe take a toothbrush to it. You could even dip or dry the rock out if you don't have any coral on it. Not having a light on it until that other comes in will help too. It's coming along!
  16. That's great advice. I hadn't considered that there might be issues with the old eb8.
  17. I would think any filter's better than none but I would invest in an rodi filter. You can get one used pretty easily. It'll take longer to fill your tank than just using the hose, but you can be sure of the water quality. Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  18. Just plugged my old display into the new apex and after a moment random things started to shut down. Pulled it right back out, and thankfully the lights and all came right back on. The backlight lights up on the display, but that's it. It doesn't display any information and I can't interact with it. So it looks like the head unit and display were both broken on my old set up.

Neat idea. Sorry about the fish!
  20. Picked up a new Apex at the dome Friday. Been putting it together bit by bit over the weekend. I've been really impressed by how much easier it is to set up than the classic. I've gotten snagged on a few things though, which might just be me overthinking. The probe placement and energy bars/outlets. For the probes, it's been a puzzle to figure out where the best spot is for each one with my sump layout. Here's a quick sketch I did. I came to the conclusion that the only spot I can use right now is area 2, because it's the only one that keeps a deep enough, constant water level. One of the problems is it's the first compartment after the drain, so there are tiny microbubbles even with the skimmer off. I moved the heaters and doser output to section 4, right before the return pumps. All probes are currently sitting in section 2 until I come up with a better idea. For the energy bars, I made a list of all the things I have to plug in: Manifold Return DC pump closed loop on/off Sump light Skimmer Heater 1 Heater 2 Sump fans Kessil power (power strip running up to light box and powering all 6 lights) ATO Doser Battery back up air pump sump Battery back up air pump DT With this I'm trying to make sure nothing I'm running exceeds the ratings of each individual outlet and the total amps on the whole thing. Then just deciding what should be plugged into the eb832 and what should go in the eb8.
  21. Thanks for the advice! I did get a new one a couple days ago. I'm still working on setting everything up so I'll let you know what all I end up having left over.
  22. Now that I've had a chance to work with the new one I see what you're talking about. I can't believe how much easier everything is on the 2016!
