  3. Buying from them just encourages them to keep carrying them. They have to be the largest cause of death of marine animals in the hobby. There is a petition going around to get them to stop carrying SW animals.
  4. I will take the Rainbow Monti! I can come by tomorrow.
  5. There are lots of different opinions on how dog breeding should or should not be done. If we can discuss them without getting personal or accusatory then fine. If not we will have to moderate threads. Seems like this one is done anyway.
  6. The pic you posted looks similar to a Christmas or Ornate Wrasse. If so I highly doubt it is the culprit. I had one for several years until it jumped. He would eat the occasional snail that got flipped over or a hermit but never messed with my starfish. How big is the Wrasse? I would lean more toward a Mantis or Lobster that hitchhiked in to the tank. Or possibly disease like Timfish said.
  7. I am glad there is such excitement and willingness to help. Someone has already offered to make some viewing tanks out of acrylic next month. So hopefully over the summer we can get this all put together for the next school year. Once we have the tanks then I will start organizing who can bring/donate what.
  8. Yeah I was going to say that with that many angels you are going to have trouble keeping much in the way of corals. They will most likely nip at the frogspawn. I would think you would be safe with Zoas and Mushrooms and maybe a few others. I think you will not be able to keep any shrimp with the Red Coris. My Mystery Wrasse ate a pretty large cleaner shrimp.
  9. So I was listening to the first Reef Addicts podcast yesterday and got an idea from what they were talking about. I was thinking we could setup some kind of educational display that we could take to our kid's classes to teach them a little about marine animals. Also with the idea of letting them know we need to protect theses animals and their environment. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. I was thinking a low and long rubbermaid with some sand and a couple rocks. We could put in it Chocolate Chip Starfish, Hermits, snails, maybe a bristle star. Things they could touch without hurting them. It would be really easy to setup but the issue would come in storing it. Anyway, it's an idea I wanted to present and see where all of you wanted to go with it, or if I am flying solo here.
  10. +1 on the muriatic acid. Don't even need to run it. Just let it soak over night then scrub. It will come right off. I always just rinse mine really well with the water hose afterwards and then towel dry.
  11. Just checked my profile and I joined in April of 06 and I was in near the very beginning, so I guess about 4 years.
  12. Andrew founded it. I think it was about 5 years ago.
  13. Could also be a Carpenter's Flasher. They are very similar.
  14. Marc came over and wanted headshots taken. He insisted on the Boa.
  15. Marc's dog is better looking than him!
  16. Could be. It is typically better to get one large and one small so the dominance is already decided. You might contact them and tell them what is happening.
  17. Actually that is not totally accurate. If you grow a coral under 6700k lights the color of the coral will brown out. If you were to move it to 20,000k it would still be brown for a while. The extra light causes the coral to produce more Zooxanthella causing it to look more brown. That is why corals can change so much from one tank to the next.

  19. That was answered twice above. The lower kelvin bulbs will produce the fastest growth.
  20. Typically the lower the kelvin the better the growth. However, with that you also get less color. It also matters which brand bulb you use. Do a Google search for "Sanjay's Lighting Chart" Great reference for PAR on most popular bulbs.
  21. I remember when you posted about this happening. That is a great poem! I hope writing helped you some. I know it does me.
