  1. I lived in a pier and beam house in Tarrytown for a while. In the crawl space under the house you could see light coming through the wood floor. So the inspector will be able to help you, but whatever, the outcome make sure it goes across the beams not between them!
  2. I used to feed larger pieces of shrimp to mine, until I went to a presentation by Anthony Calfo. If you don't know who that is google it. He has been hired by countries to come teach them how to build anemone propagation farms. He said anemones will not process large chunks of food. They will swallow it and then regurgitate it later that night. He said nothing bigger than mysis should be fed them. He said that isn't even necessary in most cases, but it wouldn't hurt.
  3. I can do it for you. My tank is still relatively new, but it is stable.
  4. It would help. SPS and LPS corals use calcium to build their skeleton. If there is not enough in the water they will not grow. If you are not worried about rapid growth and do regular water changes, you could get by without it.
  5. There is a huge improvement in the color of your tank! I will be interested to see what kind of growth you get from them.
  6. I used to run one almost identical to Melev's. I actually copied his design. I agree that on a large system it is probably the way to go. When I build my 240g I am planning on implementing a pretty complex closed loop to be the main if not total water movement device. The main reason I am going that route is I don't want to see any equipment in the tank. Not to mention it is cheaper on a tank that size.
  7. Like I said in my post I am more worried about the sand than the CC. Like Hamp said it will take a few days before it will show up. You might get lucky and have no issues. I would just keep testing daily for a while.
  8. I would measure your parameters everyday for at least a week. Usually disturbing sand bed will cause a cycle as the detritus that was trapped in the sand doesn't get enough oxygen to break down all the way. Once it is stirred it gets the oxygen it needs and starts to decay. Personally I feel sand is one of the cheapest parts of this hobby so I always start with new sand in a new tank. I will seed it with a cupful of my old live sand or from someone else. Or just let the live rock do it. In your case trying to get rid of CC you are more limited in your options. But I would be more concerned about the sand you are putting in causing a cycle than pulling the CC out. So like I said, monitor it closely.
  9. They do have livestock but on a very limited basis. Their business is definitely focused toward maintenance and new tank setups. Call for an appointment.
  10. Melev's Regal also was nipping corals. He has video of trapping it on his site. It is a bit surprising to me how little it is known in this hobby that they are capable of this. They are such a popular fish and I have heard of several people having that problem. Seems like the word would get out more.
  11. Fairy Wrasses. How can you be mean when your name starts with Fairy?
  12. I am going to order sometime next week. Anyone else want to get in?
  13. I know a lot of people get Peppermint Shrimp from down there for their tanks. I am pretty sure that is the only variety you would want to keep in a reef tank though. Do research on what types are down there and what they eat. You would not want one that is a fish predator or a coral eater.
  14. This is a little dark. OK, maybe a lot dark. I am not going to discuss what it means or why I wrote it. I just wanted to share it somewhere and this is where I have chosen. I feel your icy hands creeping up my spine. I know you are going for my throat. I try to stop you, but you keep persisting. I try to tear away, but your grip is strong. I ask for help. I see others reaching out. Yet, you are still there every time I turn around. I try to run, but just get tired. I look you in the eye and tell you to leave. Just when I think it is over, right back in you come. I wish I could kill you but you’re not really there. You are the dark side of me. I hate that I am your slave. I will keep trying to break the chains even though I know it will take stronger hands than mine. Yet, if I stop trying I know you will win. That CANNOT happen!
  15. For a tank like that I think it is better than nothing. I would never put it in my tank though.
