  1. I was just reading this and thought it was interesting enough to share. toxins
  2. Everyone from up that way please let us know you are OK. God Bless
  3. Flex molding would not work. it has to be nailed to a wall or some sort of structure. It comes in either convex or concave. There is a plywood that bends, I don't think Lowe's would be able to get this. It is a specialty product for high end custom cabinets. If you are wanting to make it out of 1 piece I would laminate pieces together, if you want to make it out of 3 pieces then I would suggest the front curve being made of 1/4" plywood and the sides out of 1/2" or 3/4". If you make the sides out of solid stock then you could round the corners and the would soften it to match the tank
  4. You should change your bulbs 8-9 months is about the life of them. I would pull everything out of the Aqua clear but the Carbon. Change it every 10 days or so. If you want to keep the foam block rinse it out every 2-3 days. Wet dry type media or ceramic plates and such are a breading ground for nitrates. IME Live rock will provide your biological filtration.
  5. Can I borrow your Iphone for that. I am not going to use mine. LOL
  6. To the rest of your question, It is caused by an export issue you are producing phosphates and nitrates that are feeding the algae. Do you have a refugium? The macro (I use chaeto, it processes better than any other form) will process the N & P and keep the system in ballance. I would suggest larger than normal water changes for the next couple weeks. How long has your tank been runnig?
  7. turbo snails do a great job on algae, they will knock some things over.
  8. Another way is to cut very thin pieces and laminate them together (glue). When the glue dries they will hold the shape. You have to build a template first then glue it up. I built my daughters bed with 40 or so curved slats in it. I think they took something like 160 1/8"x 1 1/4" pieces of cherry. You could also build it out of 1/4" plywood and cut a cap for the top and the bottom to retain the shape. You would have to use a router and cut a groove in the top and bottom for the plywood to sit in. Again you would have to make a template. There is also plywood that is made to bend. You might could find this at Fine Lumber, Hardwood Products and possibly WoodCraft. But this is going to be the most expensive way.
  9. Got one, thanks. Temps now range form 78.2-79.4, I don't know about the evaporation yet and might adjust the temps down a little more but want it to be a slow change.
  10. Think about how strong currents are in the ocean around the reefs. I have read about people having 100x turn over in sps tanks with great success. You can't go any where near that with lsp or softies they will rip apart. Good flow is vital to a healthy tank.
  11. I got mine from BRS. I think someone said that Autotopoff is based in Austin now. Try emailing them and see if you could pick one up.
  12. Yes, I would try to have between 2200 and 2500 gph in flow for a 75g tank. This should keep everything suspended to the water column and allow it to reach your skimmer to be removed. You should still be able to find lower flow areas for softies.
  13. What other pumps do you have on the tank? The number I try to hit is between 30-35x turn over in my tank per hour.
  14. I looked at the same pumps from BRS but went with the Aqua lifter. It pumps about 3x the rate of yours. I was not as concerned with over flowing my sump if their was a malfunction. I only have about 15g of top off water at the most and my sump should hold about 12 of that. I have about 3-4 gallons of evaporation per day and it would take about 4 hours to empty my top off so at worst I would have a gallon or 2 on the floor. I do have a second float as a back up if the first one fails.
  15. I was looking at you stand with it being completly enclosed and did not think there would be any way for the heat to escape. Are you installing fans in the stand also? If the back of the stand was open it might work better in the stand. JMO
  16. Even if every thing Mike has for fail safes fail and the pump runs non stop it would take 60+ hrs to drain the 55g barrel at 50 ml per min
  17. I am at 56. You have to love these iphones.
  18. You definitely don't want the ballasts inside the stand, moisture as you said and they will create a lot of heat. You can put them on the ground or you might look at placing them on top of your canopy until you get the other cabinet built. I would use separate reflectors for the t5 if you have room.
  19. Thanks guys, great stuff as always
  20. I would say 5-10x in the sump but 30-35x total flow
  21. You will get more growth out of the 10k than the 20k
  22. I can't afford a new one right now, but will keep it in mind if nothing else turns up. I have 2 large fans blowing across the tank and one on the sump. I have 750w total light on my 120g. The 150 number came from adding in the sump volume.
