  1. Try some frozen Brine with spirulina. Everything I have eats it very well.
  2. If you squeeze enough lemons eventually you are going to get a squirt in your eye.
  3. I use a mag12 return pump and use the sponge block to catch any pieces of chaeto that break off. I just clean it real regularly to keep nitrates down as much as possible. I also have a split sump now but was running a sump like you have. I liked having the fuge in the middle to keep the skimmer as far away from the return pump as possible. That helped keep micro bubbles from making it back to the display. I also have a piece of egg crate siliconed on the top of my baffle for my fuge now. I have used poly fiber in the past and it caught all of the small pieces of chaeto.
  4. When you do water changes you need to work with the total water volume so your 10% changes, from what you have described would be 10 gallons. A sump is just extra water and a place to put other filtration, IE. a skimmer or reactors. Arefugium is a section to grow macro algae and some people use them for a Deep Sand Bed (dsb) if they do not have one in the display. If you do not have a protien skimmer it is highy recomended that 50% per week water changes be done. This will remove the waste that would other wise be removed by skimming. I feel that a good skimmer is one of the most important parts of any system. I highly recomend Coralvue's Octopus skimmers they (IMO) are the best for the money. For 100g total water volume you should look at a skimmer rated for around 150g.
  5. I wouldn't do a 20% change for your first one. I would suggest 10% a week for the first 2 weeks and then get on at least 10% every other week schedule. If you have not been doing changes a sudden change in the system might cause problems
  6. What a waste, I will stick with my 40g sump that cost me a total of $50 with baffles. From what I have read canisters are a breading ground for nitrates and really don't have a place in a reef tank any way.
  7. Why do you have that many bags of bio balls? Just wondering.
  8. I was looking at those the other day. You would have to make sure they were perfectly level. I think snails would be a challenge in them also
  9. I have been to almost all of them and find my self at RCA the most. I have not been out to Austin aqua farm. Mostly because I havn't had the money, not saying they are too expensive but that I would want to buy too much.
  10. They do mutiply quick but I have not had a problem with too many of them in my tank yet. My 6 line hasn't bothered them either. I did see a nassarius snaild on top of 1 yesterday and found an empty shell there this morning.
  11. I might be interested in some of the frags. I am still filling out my 120g. Possibly the big acro that you just got from Dena if it wont fit in the smaller tank.
  12. I didn't figure she did but I thought that was about the only way the tank would be replaced. I stand by the dumb A$$ comment.
  13. My wife would really kill me if I set up another tank. She isn't happy now with the amount I am spending on the 120g.
  14. My biggest concern would be what is reef safe and not as far as live stock goes.
  15. Why not replace the bulkhead? RCA has them I think. Then you don't have to go through all this. You can get threaded or non.
  16. Sorry I have been out of town and have not kept up with the forum very well. You have to support it with some sort of a frame work.
  17. I have a tank that is cracked anyone want to buy it. It is just a preexisting condition. LOL I know health care and the need for reform is not funny.
  18. No problem glueing, rain or shine is a hotter glue that supposedly will work if the surface is wet but I don't trust it wet. just be sure to clean everything good before you glue it.
  19. Are you trying to attach to the out side threads on the bulkhead? Your fittings need to work with female threads to attach to the bulkhead or you have a slipfitting or non threaded bukhead.
  20. Foster & Smith have the 5.99 flat rate shipping going also for any item any weight
  21. I never even wear gloves. I am careful around frog spawn and torch but don't really pay much attention to anything else.
  22. You are going to have to get something below it to force it to the surface. Wrasse are bad about jumping, it might even jump out of the overflow when you are trying to force it to the top. Sounds like you might have an eventual carpet surfer if you are not lucky. I can't remember is your canopy open on top?
  23. Ryan is right. I started thinking after I posted that you might have to add 2 more baffles to move the skimmer. Is It in a constant level section now? I am not real sure about others but Octopus suggests 8-10" for best performance
  24. I would make the the section that you have the rock in the fuge or if possible move the skimmer into that section if. Either way you need to add a baffle at the section where the rock is. It needs to be about 1" from the other and the water needs to go over it. This will create a deeper section of water for the fuge. Then just buy a clip on light from Lowes or Homedepot with a 5000-5500K bulb and you are set.
