  1. Yes you can skip a day most fish will find something to eat in your tank, algae or pods.
  2. Thanks again guys. Can I just set you up on a direct deposit so I don't have to keep giving you cash every couple of weeks. Maybe just a once a month payment.
  3. After you buy a ro/di unit you will wonder why it took you so long. Life is so much easier. They pay for them selves in just a couple months
  4. You will have to get the bulk product from Bulk Reef Supply online. There seems to be someone ordering from them every month.
  5. I am out running around most of the day and can meet up with you when ever. I will put in my truck.
  6. Why spend $8 every 2 days? If you buy it in bulk you are going to save a ton of money. Enough magnesium to make a full gallon is $10 at BRS. After you raise your Mag to the correct levels a gallon should last you about 2 months. If you need to dose strontium buy a bottle of that You should not need to add it very often. Once or twice between water changes. I use Reef Crystals( by Instant Ocean) I know their a lot of people who use the Red Sea Pro. There are some higher end salts available but I am happy with RC.
  7. How much does the Seachem cost and how large are the bottles? With regular water changes you should not have worry about stronium or boron if you are using a good salt. I add 100ml ea of Ca and Kh daily and about 200ml of mag a week. The last order I made was17-20gallons for $56.
  8. Epsom salt is cheaper (magnesium sulfate). I used it for a while when i was out of my BRS kits with no problems
  9. You wil still get oxygen exchange directly related to the suface area of your tank. As to wether it would be enough to maintaian life depends on how the tank is stocked.
  10. Is this going on you 20g tank? If it is then probably a maxi jet 600 or 900 at the most
  11. This kind of thing is why any hobbyist should own their own ro/di system. They will pay for them selves quickly and you know exactly how long the filters have been used. I like the local shops that we have but still prefer to be in control of my equipment.
  12. Let me know if this is still going to happen I might want a dragonface pipefish they show to have them in stock.
  13. That (QT) is what this 10g tank will be used for after this is completed. I hope that my six line will keep flat worms out of my tank. I have had him about a year and he is doing well.
  14. I think you should always run a skimmer that is designed for a larger tank. IE 50g tank run a 100g skimmer, 100g tank run 180g skimmer. That way the skimmer and you, don't have to work as hard. This will also allow you to skim more aggressively when needed.
  15. I would not use a dead fish from any where else. You do not know what killed it and you might be adding something to your tank that could cause problems later.
  16. They are very small specs on the coral. I have had this for a while but from the location in the tank and the size I could not see them and did not realize how small they are. They have a yellow body with a red head. I could not see dthe body until they were dead and floating in the tank after treatment
  17. From reading Eric Bornman, acros are the only thing he could get to host the red bugs. I have inspected my birds nest with a magnifying glass and could not find any bugs. They seem to like tricolor the best. You can use lugols but you need 10x strength and the corals don't like it. I am using Interceptor. The corals were much happier this morning than they have been in weeks. Much better polyp extension. I did a water change about an hour ago using tank water to limit the shock and will let them sit for 4 more days. On the last day I will probably dose 1 more time just to be safe. 1 pill does 400 gal so I have enough for many new acros to be treated. I just need some money to buy them.
  18. LOL. I have some more xenia if you want to see how much he can carry.
  19. Base price with out discounts for their 2 part kit is $12 (1 gallon of ea. Ca & Kh, 20 oz. Mag) I just bought the Large kit for $56 on sale(7-8gal of ea and 3gal of mag) 2 part kit How much do you get for $3.99?
  20. Next time you see a buy going on for Bulk Reef Supply try their 2 part kit. It is easy to mix and is a lot more affordable than most.
  21. Just put a raw shrimp from the grocery store in the tank. It is better than killing a fish. Leave the shrimp in until it gets a film on it and then remove it. Also some people here use Stability to add the bacteria to their tanks. I would say to do both the shrimp will give the bacteria some thing to eat and multiply
  22. I am treating my Acros for red bugs. I only have a few acros so I am very confident with where they came from. I bought a Valida and a green slimer a while back from a member of the forum. I have had a fear of getting them from what I have read and have been looking for a dragonface pipefish to put into my tank in case I did get some into my tank. Well the other night I was looking at a Valida that has not been coloring up very good and saw a couple tiny spots. I set up a 10g tank last night and put all my acros in it. (there are not many) I followed Eric Bornman's directions and will keep them there for 5 days. He stated that he could not keep them alive for that long with out a host(acros in the tank) and that he could not get them to host anything but acros. I went to my vet and explained to them what I was doing and they sold me a couple of pills of Interceptor. The pills are for heart worm preventative for a 100lb dog. One pill will treat 400g of water. I crushed the pill and added a small amount to the water. After about an hour I could see them floating in the water. Bornman suggested 12-24 hours and then a water change and running carbon. I can not see any more on the Valida but will change the water in a couple hours. I will now dip everything that comes into my tank for at least 3 hours to insure that this does not happen again.
  23. Welcome, nice to have you here. Tank looks good.
  24. From what I have read 8-10" should be good for the skimmer. I cut some pvc pipe to make feet to raise my skimmer 1". You can attach them with super glue or silicone would hold them enough.
