  1. Check our the hofer gurgle buster, it is a DIY but seriously takes about 20 minutes to build and works great. Hofer
  2. From what I've read, the more "edge" to the overflow there is, the better, so a triangle would greatly reduce that.

    RO/DI Setup

Sorry, I should have been more clear, this is not for a constant (on-demand) feed. I currently have a reservoir and ATO on each tank so they are set. This setup is just for producing the RO water and serving as a mixing station for salt water. The 30g will be the main RO reservoir. One of the 15g will be what I use to top off my ATO reservoirs in each tank (I can move the 15g containers fairly easily). One of the 15g will be used for my water changes, I only need about 15g for water changes at a time. That make it any clearer?
  4. Would love one as well...
  5. I now have my RO/DI and three barrels (1)30g, (2)15g and will be setting them up in my laundry room. Each barrel has two 2" threaded caps. I stacked my washer dryer so I have a slot about 4' square. I have a Y with on/off to feed cold water to the RO and the washing machine. I purchased the auto-shutoff for the RO unit as well. My question is, what is the best configuration for the barrels and how do I plumb this thing? Ideally I would be able to push water about 20' to my tanks using gravity, though I do have an extra Mag 9.5. Here's the flow I imagine: wall --> RO/DI unit --> 30g barrel (for holding top-off water and water for mixing salt) --> Y divider with ball valve for each 15g??? --> 15 g barrels I'm trying to decide: should the 30g be stood upright and the 15g ones on their side? Suspend the float valve from one of the threaded inserts of the 30g? Does the Mag pump have to be inside the barrel or can I put a long piece of pvc pipe to pull water from a barrel? Any ideas or configurations?
  6. It just depends on how you want it to look. We primarily view our tank from the kitchen so I didn't have a problem using a corner overflow facing out to the living room. I had orginally purchased a center overflow and it completely killed the living room view. We covered the exposed overflow with contact paper painted black, leaving it exposed on the end so that we can see clogs, etc. My only real issue right now with the corner overflow is that it creates a weird current in the tank due to the non-uniform shape it forces the rockwork to be in. Pics attached
  7. No experience with Islands but it will limit what you can do with the rockwork on your tank. My tank is viewable from 3 sides and I went with the corner overflow. If I had it to do again I'd do the peninsula overflow, but I hear they have their own problems relating to the area of overflow vs tank capacity.
  8. check out the hofer gurgle buster, worked wonders for me and costs about $4.
  9. I'd be interested in $20-30 of things as well. Mike
  10. I have one, not sure what I'm asking for it. It's in my main tank and I have a Koralia set to replace it. Let me know where you're located and maybe we can arrange something. Mike
  11. Picked up two 15g and a 30g yesterday from the craigslist ad, very smooth. Now to just get the darn things cleaned out!
  12. +1, I don't think the garlic in itself cures Ich, I think it stimulates the fish's appetite. A fish that eats is much more likely to outlast and survive the ich. My guess is that the gramma did not bring ich to your tank, the ich was already there but your current fish are healthy and able to fend it off. The gramma was stressed by travel and therefore susceptible. Keep him eating and you should be fine.
  13. Howdy and welcome, thanks for your service. Time to get that tank going now! If you haven't seen it yet, there's a meeting this Saturday. You should come and introduce yourself in person.

  16. I'm about to buy some in this thread, let me know if you're interested http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/10257-rodi-large-container-question/page__p__66178__hl__container__fromsearch__1entry66178
  17. Chromis may not be aggressive individually, but my group of five dominate the tank. I'm planning to get rid of two of them just to reduce their "bully" power.

  19. Yeah, my Osc clowns have been laying for about a month and a half now, just like clockwork. They lay on Wed night and the eggs hatch on the 7-8 day. So far all the babies have been eaten by the time I get up the next morning. I got home from vacation to find that my Clarkii's are now laying as well, so my goal this weekend is to get the Eclipse set up for attempts at raising them. I haven't even seen an egg hatch yet but the eggs are always gone on the morning of the 9th day. any tips on catching them hatching?
  20. I got a t5 retro kit from hellolights and they threw in the bulbs for free, very easy to set up. I'd search for an Icecap ballast and wiring harness to power it.
  21. I'm interested in two of the pipefish. PM'ing info
  22. Agreed, but one note about apartments above the main floor. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RENTERS INSURANCE. The floor will support your tank, but won't support all the water if you spring a leak. It's well worth the insurance cost to be protected (and to protect you from the uninsured guy in the apartment above you who has a leak in his 250g aquarium).
  23. I have a 12g eclipse that i'm using, the all-in-one makes it nice and easy to set up. PVC elbows make it medication safe and give the fish some shelter. I haven't actually used it for QT yet, but both my pairs of clowns are now laying eggs so I'm probably going to use it to try and get some baby Osc. and/or Clarkii clowns growing.
  24. Happy b-day Corey, what have you got planned to celebrate?
