  1. Awesome stuff, but man that black maxima is sick! (in a good way)
  2. You have to break up the flow. You can potentially put a sponge under it, but not many that I know of run that kind of filter in a sump.
  3. +1 to the advice. above. I also would not consider adding any fish until well after the move. There's enough stress and odds of a cycle in the tank once you set it back up. I'd wait for it to stabilize before you make any additions. Glad to have you in Austin!
  4. What a monster build, I'm impressed. Seems like a lot of metal parts in the canopy. I know that with the limited parts I have in my stand that the metal attracts salt and started rusting almost immediately. What are you doing to protect the metal parts (I'm hoping to steal some ideas)?
  5. Top container was from Tractor Supply Co. (specifically the one in San Marcos). They have multiple sizes, but the 15g is the one that fits the smaller plastic cart from Harbor Freight. Cart ran about $80, container ran about $80.
  6. Posting this here for posterity and to show off my RBTA's. The other side is actually the prettier of the tank.
  7. I'm not sure what you mean about the float valve and RO/DI. I have a float valve in a 30g covered barrel, when it is triggered by low water it triggers a valve that opens and begins pushing water through the RO/DI. TDS going in is around 210, coming out (into the barrel) is 0. I have a 15g container on the top of the cart used for mixing salt water. I usually do it the day before I need it and leave a powerhead running to keep it circulating. Here's a photo of the cart. I have an extra maxijet 1200 I use to pull water from my sump into the container in the bottom, then pump it from the container back out to the yard or toilet. I store my extra 5g RO water jug on the bottom as well.
  8. Can do, I'll try to post them tonight. I ended up buying the smaller cart for about $80 from harbor freight and I'm pretty happy with the setup. It fits easily in my laundry room next to my RODI unit and makes changes much easier.
  9. I've got an extra Odyssea 250w ballast if you're still looking for one.
  10. If the meeting is not at a sponsor's location feel free to bring frags. I'm bringing them just to share with other reefers, no charge. We will also have some more exotic frags being passed out as door prizes, as well as a Premium Membership (or credit towards Pro/Sponsor). Some people also bring frags to sell, but the shouldn't interfere with the meeting topic. It's also a great place to meet to pick up/deliver frags bought and sold on the club.
  11. Congrats James! We'll have him moderating in no time! Looks like I'm going to need to stock smaller shirts and booties in the store.
  12. Same, plenty of devils hand to go around. I'll be bringing frags to the February meeting as well.
  13. If you have hermits and don't put empty shells in for them to upgrade as they grow, they'll turn on each other and steal the shells. This is also why they target your snails.
  14. Occasionally my bta's drop a tentacle or two, just 1/2" or so. If you see more than two I think o0zarkawater is correct.
  15. +1 The other trick is to not feed them for a few days before doing the water bottle. Especially if you've moved the shrimp it should prompt your fish to go right after the food.
  16. Prof with Epic Reef (you change that name yet Prof?) does this as well.
  17. Great question! Yes, we'd like to have a bi-annual frag swap, but we need to know what time works best for the members and also allows us time to set it up. Vote here: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/20869-arc-spring-frag-swap/
  18. available locally: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/20812-ecotech-coral-glue/page__hl__glue__fromsearch__1
  19. Kim, you can take a look at mine on the Solana. Just a standard 5g jug from the LFS with an autotopoff float valve and aqualifter pump for moving the water. Aqua-dome normally has aqualifters in stock or can get them for you.
  20. You'll have much more fun passing out beads than we will..... Put the March meeting on your calendar now, and have fun!
