  1. A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who took the time to attend! The speakers were amazing, the exhibitors and sponsors did a fantastic job and WHAT AN AMAZING VARIETY OF DOOR PRIZES!

Hands down, though, the winners of the day for us were the staff and volunteers. The event could not have run more smoothly and we thank everyone for their hard work and the hours they put in to make it such a great event.

We'll be reviewing the comment cards to make notes so that next year is even better (and bigger). Our biggest challenge will be topping that speaker list, as I said this lineup was amazing!

Apologies for the crowded vendor room (and the loud music coming from next door!), but when the guys started asking if they could bring in more items and tanks to show off for everyone, how could I say no? The goal is to have twice as many exhibitors next year (with at least twice as much room), and the attendance and feedback from our sponsors/exhibitors from this year should make that an easy goal to achieve.

Thanks again guys, I can't tell you how great it felt sitting in the back of the room during the panel discussion and seeing a roomful of active, involved reef-keepers. It's this kind of interest and participation that will keep the hobby moving forward. We're so glad you all enjoyed it!

  2. Ok kids, the store is officially closed. If you didn't get your ticket online you can still purchase at the door tomorrow. Additionally, if you didn't get in on the lunch buffet but would like to, the Crowne Plaza has offered to allow anyone without a lunch ticket to purchase the lunch buffet at the same discounted price. I'd recommend that since it lets you stay close to insure you don't miss any of the door prize drawings.

Check the itinerary here, and remember, you must be present to win.

It's going to be a blast people, and thank you all for making this event shape up to be such a success!

  3. I'm happy to announce that Elegant Reef has renewed their ARC Sponsorship for 2013, which means that ARC Premium members receive a 10% discount on purchases there (excluding live rock). They continue to be a great source of high quality corals and livestock, so if you haven't made a trip to San Antonio lately you should plan a trip!

Be sure to follow their sponsor forum for the latest discounts and sales, and let's all take a moment to thank them for their continued support!

  5. Let's all take a moment to thank our newest sponsor, Aquaculture Ranch!

Aquaculture Ranch is a sustainable mariculture facility located just southwest of Austin, TX. They start by having Live Rock hand collected in Florida and imported direct to their facility in the Hill Country. This rock has some of the most amazing examples of bio-diversity you've seen, covered in Caribbean soft and hard corals and fauna that are unavailable anywhere else in the world. The ranch maintains just under 10,000 gallons of marine tanks which allows them ample space to study and grow a variety of display and utilitarian macroalgae. They focus on taking advantage of sustainable reef-keeping methodologies to provide their customers with hand-manicured rock that will be the highlight of your display tank.

ARC Premium Members receive a 10% discount on all purchases through the Ranch.

Let's all take a moment to say thanks for the support!

  6. Yeah, I built one last spring. Don't follow the instructions on that site, several of the parts don't fit together as they describe and it ultimately leaks. Ask me for tips on how it ultimately came together if interested. ;)

  7. I've got

weird thing I noticed, which isnt a bad thing. As a regular member I can only "like" so many posts per day, however once I reach that limit I can still go onto tapatalk with my phone and continue to like posts that I like.

I would hope this doesnt get changed since its not hurting anything but just thought I'd share.

You really should be getting a kickback from Tapatalk.... biggrin.png

  9. I love the clown tang but don't know anyone who has kept one alive more than a few months. I love my purple tang, but once my yellow died (they grew up together) he wouldn't tolerate the addition of any younger yellows.

One of my favorites now is a gorgeous Desjardini Sailfin that I got from the Aquadome. Here's a pic Jake took of it at the last meeting:

I'd add a +1 to the blonde Naso that Tim mentioned.

Regardless of what you choose, make sure to quarantine and have some kind of ich treatement plan (UV, medicated food, etc.). As much as I love the tangs they seem to add all sorts of parasite issues that are much easier to anticipate than to deal with after.
