Welcome Matt, great looking tank!

Update here
-
As most of you know last year we were able to run a discounted quarterly salt buy. This meant that not only did we have to coordinate a quarterly buy (track quantities, names, etc.), but that you also had to project just how much you would need for the next several months. It never failed that you would need salt in the meantime, so for 2013 we're going to try something new.
Gary and the crew at the Aquadome have come up with the following offer to ARC members - an ongoing special price on salt mixes. These prices will be offered as long as Aquadome's cost remains unchanged, they may periodically change. They should be better than what you can find online while providing the convenience of local pickup (without shipping costs).
The current rates will be maintained in a pinned thread in Aquadome's sponsor forum here. The Aquadome will do its best to keep quantities of each on hand. The Coralife shouldn't ever be a problem, but it would always be best to call ahead to make sure that they have sufficient quantities in stock.
As far as I know Jake and the gang at RCA will still be running the semi-annual salt buy in June and December, details of such will be maintained in the Group Order and RCA forums.
Thanks to all of our local fish stores for continuing to to try offer our members the best prices around!- 1

Gary and the crew at the Aquadome have come up with the following offer for ARC members - an ongoing special price on salt mixes. These prices will be offered as long as Aquadome's cost remains unchanged, they may periodically change. They should be better than what you can find online while providing the convenience of local pickup (without shipping costs).
The current rates are:
- Coralife 200g boxes - $39.00
- RedSea Coral Pro 175g bucket - $62
- Fluval Red Sea Salt 165g bucket - $52 (if you're not familiar with this one Gary says it's a fast dissolving reef salt specifically developed for Hagen by the originators of Oceanic Salt)
Prices will be updated here so that you should know the current rate at any time. As always, please contact the Aquadome to verify availability before making the drive.
Thanks Aquadome!

Very cool article and interesting news. I'd often wondered what the anemone gets out of it besides a super-aggressive pair of inhabitants.

I just bought a replacement carbon filter for my RO/DI, but noticed that BRS has one specifically for the removal of chloramines. Should those of us on Austin water be using that one?

Welcome aboard, can't wait to see your tank!

Are we going to get some kind of tickets mailed or emailed to us? I have email receipts from PayPal and ARC but nothing that looks like a ticket. Or will we just check the list at the door?
There are no physical tickets, admission will be checked at the door.

Just a reminder that C4 is just over a month away! If you plan to participate in the frag swap and you're bringing a tank, please rsvp by PM'ing me or emailing AustinReefClub @ gmail.com. There's no charge or membership requirement to participate in the swap, but you won't be able to attend the C4 presentations without purchasing admission.

shouldnt this go in the premium only section, so as to discourage clever googlers?
All of our codes have generally been made available publicly depending on our sponsor's terms. They have ways of validating Premium Members...

Jason and the gang at Premium Aquatics have renewed their ARC Sponsorship for 2013. They continue to be a great source for all of your dry goods and equipment, and are expanding their livestock section daily! In addition to supporting the club, Premium Aquatics is a sponsor of C4 and will be providing goodie bags for all of our attendees!
Be sure to follow their sponsor forum for the latest discounts and sales, and let's all take a moment to thank them for their continued support!

Just PM Rvitko on RC (he's the head of Tunze USA) and he'll get you set up. I am exceptionally impressed with the way he runs his business and customer service.
Just as easy to email or call Roger here locally

Worst case Tunze has a shop here in Austin that does repair, warranty work.

Welcome, and wow, great pics! Standouts for me are the clown/duncan shot as well as the zoas on the hermit. Awesome!
-
Mike, do you have one yourself? If so, where did you purchase it from? I don't mind not having hermits and when you say decorative shrimp, you mean smaller ones like sexy shrimp right? I have a skunk cleaner that I want to keep safe.
as kingjames420 said, your skunk cleaner should be safe. Smaller shrimp like sexies can definitely be a target. Every fish is a bit different so you might get with that leaves everything else alone.
I don't have one (yet), but it's still a very cool fish.

If the only way to prevent this is through the reduction of emissions then coral reefs as we know them are gone. I tend to believe that reefs are a bit more resilient than these models predict.

Haha for jobs, can't blame us, it's every grads dream to get a job BUT! My fams in Austin so we'll be back often, maybe even for some meetings

Great fish, make sure you have a sand bed that isn't coarse as they like to bury themselves and will hurt themselves if you have rough aragonite. They're also not completely reef safe (hermits and other small inverts like decorative shrimp).
-
Holy cow, that's a work of art. Great job!

We'll need volunteers for a variety of jobs like helping our exhibitors, setup and breakdown, and providing information to attendees. The workload should be light, and volunteers receive a free t-shirt and admission.
