  1. What Nery did was pretty spectacular, almost as spectacular as the guy who went with him and had a camera stuck to his face.
  2. I saw an ad on Ebay for a Corallife 4 lamp retro kit, NIB, for $75 and $42 shipping. I priced it on MarineDepot fot $300. I contacted the seller and he swears it has never been used.
  3. I just scraped my tank with a razor blade. I had a scraper with a long handle and a metal blade but it did not work very well. Upon dapettit's advice at the Saturday meeting, I tried a single edge razor blade. That worked extremely well. I cleaned almost all of the pink off the sides and back and only got nibbled on twice. It looks much better. Over the 4th, I am gonna do a water change and some other basic maintenance. I might begin removing the CC bed a little at a time. I figure if I remove about 4 cups of CC at a time, I just might be able to avoid cycling.
  4. I hear Prof has a large one. He is one of our vendors - Epic Reef. Are you sure the glass is not tempered? If so, it cannot be drilled safely.
  5. Are yall sure the Aqualifter will push water 5 feet high? Aquatek on Burnet Rd. carries them.
  6. I take it you are a little disappointed with them as well?
  7. Might I ask what you are using for powerheads now?
  8. I am using 2 of the 1050's in my 75. I think they are not as strong as the standard Koralia-3's I was using. Now I wish I had gone with my gut and gotten the 1400's. JMHO.
  9. I'll be there and I am bringing a few beginner type frags. I hope no one minds.
  10. Your plasma link is bad. Good article. Nice to hear from practical experience from someone who has actually tried the latest lighting gadgets.
  11. I have heard mentioned that if you dose "2 part', you don't get coraline build-up. Any truth to that rumour?
  12. After Mark helped me get my tank in order, I started growing coraline algae for the 1st time. Now 3 sides of my tank are fairly covered in pink. The wife liked it better when the walls were more pristine. Question: which is better - keep it or scrape it off? And why?

    Reef Rebuild

Assuming my memory is correct, I used a 40lb bag of crushed coral which was almost a 5 gallon bucket full. I am planning to dump half of it. Washing half a bucket of CC a little at a time shouldn't be too awful.

    Reef Rebuild

I am using crushed coral, not sand. However, I think my bed is too deep. It's about 3 inches. I am going to lower it to about an inch or so - more than a bare bottom but much less than a deep sand bed.

    Reef Rebuild

I thought I would use this opportunity to clean up the crushed coral a bit. I don't want to recycle the tank if I can avoid it but I'd like to remove as much detritus as possible. I am also going to remove about half of what I am currently using.
  16. Some people here have reported problems finding and getting 60'' bulbs. They seemed to be fairly fragile and arrived broken a lot. I think the cost of 36" bulbs is quite a bit less, isn't it?
  17. You might also try 36" fixtures end to end.
  18. I developed a small leak on my outflow bulkhead. It's on the bottom of the tank so I am going to take it all down, seal it, and put it back together. While I have it down, I want to change the outflow from just a tube to a DIY spillover box. I also want to change the inflow from a tube to something else. I am told the PVC tubes get very brittle after several years and I don't want to risk another leak or even a complete meltdown. What I am planning is to get 2 or 3 fairly large containers from Walmart and offload all my rock, livestock, and some of the crushed coral bed into them. I will add a power head to keep the water moving and maybe a bubbler as well. The instructions on the sealant say it needs 48hrs to cure before adding water back into the aquarium. Does anyone think this will have adverse affects on the livestock if they are in makeshift containers for 2 or 3 days? I know livestock is shipped but that is mostly overnight, isn't it?
  19. True but it is $100 emergency on a weekend service call.
  20. what is a spray bar?
  21. Lamont - I believe he has a nice set up of T-5's. I don't knpow how nice it is but I am using a Current Sundial, 216 watts plus a 48 inch tube of LED's. If we ever get a PAR meter, I would love to have them tested.
  22. I think I am killing a chunk of green monti. It went from green to brown and doesn't seem to want to come around. Liz, what kind of lighting are you using?
  23. Absolut_racer(Sara) had one as well I think.
