  1. Whatever route you take make sure to buy quality equipment, I like to say "do it right or don't do it at all. Quality does not mean the latest and greatest or most expensive, that is where research comes in. A tank in the 60G to 90G is a lot more forgiving to a newbie learning about water chemistry and how the elements interact and affect each other. A ph monitor really will show you what a test kit can't on how adding certain thing's influence. A ro/di unit ensures you are putting in good water, an auto top-off helps with the all important stability aspect as does a refractometer. Read, read and read some more before jumping in. Cheers,
  2. Looks like a goner. Any whelk snail's evident in the area?
  3. Running carbon will remove any smell. Any chance that your new water cycled on you before you got a chance to use it or was it just mixed? Maybe check out those canister filters. I would mix up more fresh saltwater just to have in case it's needed. Have you checked your parameters yet...including ammonia and nitrites? Cheers,
  4. Keep in mind that if you get these from a factory you are up a creek if something goes wrong. Even if they want to help, you will still pay for shipping + insurance there and back. The color spectrum's represented by these are quite good, the price is outstanding, they at least have namebrand led's(less bin data) and someone in the US believes they are worthy of a 2yr warranty, to me that alone is worth the $40 you save by buying direct as-is. As always....YMMV Cheers,
  5. Depending on his tank size and budget he can do either one of these. http://www.reefbreed...d_fixtures.html Or he can get their "value" unit and use digital timer's...http://www.reefbreed...d_fixtures.html Cheers,
  6. At least I got to see one of these at MACNA last week. That should hold me over till he get's some pic's posted up here. Cheers,
  7. I've seen many smaller reef tanks as well as reef tanks up to 75G tanks use HOB filter's sucessfully. There are ways to mod them into fuges etc., one drawback is the smaller volume of water that they can hold/process however you can impliment purigen or similar types of filter media to make it very functional and effective. You do want to have adequate LR in the tank, maintain a reasonable bioload and make sure to have a good waterchange schedule. Cheers,
  8. Hi, Thats a nice colony, it's probably gonna end up being a nice deeper blue. Wild colonies are kinda fickle sometimes, many require stable, pristine water condition's and that doesn't guarantee success with wild colonies ime. Good luck bro. YMMV Cheers,
  9. Hi, Sent a PM on the below item's. Water Changing system no pumps just two 50gal containers and solid wooden stand $ 200 $160
  10. You can check out guru.com also, for what you need it will be pretty cheap. Cheers,
  11. Sorry man, I'm just gonna watch these collect dust, I'm sure I'll find a use for them at some point. Cheers,
  12. Nope, was asking around and found out that a couple of guy's I work with are welders. One guy lives in Hutto also so he was able to stop by and get accurate measurements and best of all...... it only cost me for material's. Cheers,
  13. That is too cool. Does the speed change from the controller measuring the water temp or from a sensor in the light measuring the temp in the fixture? C'mon....hook a geek up These are the icecap variable speed fan's, I found 4 used at a decent price. These have the temp sensor integrated with the fan, here's the old icecap fan as well as the coralvue rendition. http://www.innovativ...ic-fan-120.html http://coralvue.com/smart-fans/ Cheers,
  14. These are back in a bucket collecting dust so no longer available.
  15. Here's a pic showing the variable speed fan's, these will speed up or slow down automatically as the temperature changes. Cheers,
  16. Thats cool James, Finally found someone to build a light stand for my led setup. With all led's on it's more of 10K look so it's perfectly blended but that is without any optic's added. The stand is adjustable in height as well as front to back. I still need to finish up everything, control light bleed and get it looking neat. Cheers,
  17. Hi, I would check Alk level's, my old tank would drop 2.5dHH a day if I turned off my CaRx. Low alk will cause recession in sps if low, you make want to triple check salinity also in case something happened with your top-off method(i.e. somehow topping off with saltwater while away etc.) Cheers,
