  10. I have three large Vampire/Giant African Fan Shrimp in my 125g. I was excited to find these and Singapore Flower Shrimp, because one of my favorite critters in the SW tank was Porcelain Crabs. Filter feeders look cool, are cool to watch, and they never mess with anything. However, I'm worried about starving them. I already starved a mussel to death, as aquariums in general are just too clean. I thought about grabbing some FW clams next time I'm diving in Travis, but I don't want them to die or release parasitic larvae (glochidia). I started a green-water tank to cultivate Daphnia moira,

  15. I have a large wet/dry filter with bioballs for sale. I modified it to have 3 - 11/2" input bulkheads and I drilled the side for a 1" return bulkhead for an external pump. $50 Also, I have the glass from a 55G Oceanic tank. All the pieces but the back, it broke. Not sure how much to ask, maybe if someone is interested they could make me an offer. PM or text Rick (512)636-3861
  16. Last week at RCA I decided to try out an HBH Aqua-Pure Cut-To-Fit Carbon Pad and a HBH Aqua-Pure Cut-To-Fit Ammonia Pad. Since I use Shane of Fishy Business's sump design, I already have a mechanical, foam filter. I just cut and slid these pads behind my foam filter. That should help them last longer as I clean the foam filter weekly. I'm curious to see if they improve anything (they're cheap and much cheaper than Poly-Filter but not as versatile), and I'll post if anything unexpected happens. Anyone else ever use these?
  17. I'm just curious. I know I've switched over to aio systems or canister filtration, but I don't think I know why. Why don't we use HOB filters for marine setups? One reason I'm asking is because I recently purchased this filter for my freshwater planted aquarium and I love it! (http://www.drsfoster...29&pcatid=16729) It took care of the surface scum in no time. I took out the first clamshell and there was enough room for me to put a small bag of chemi pure. Now I'm thinking of purchasing one of the larger sizes for my biocube. I just finished taking out the false wall yesterday an
  18. Hi there, Looking for a new filter for my 20gal tall. I have it on a dresser, so an actual sump/refugium isn't exactly feasible. Right now I have a ridiculous marineland magnum HOT filter on it, and I spend 80% of my day wanting to punt it out of the door. It blows air sometimes for no reason, and I would buy a new O-ring and open the thing up to tighten the current one, but it was the biggest pain in the world to set up. I would love a hang on the side refugium, or an Eheim canister filter. I have a 2213 on my 10gal that I absolutely adore. Let me know if you have either of these, and your
  19. Hey all, I've got my 24 gallon Cardiff aquarium up and running with lots of gorgonians. I really want to start a continuous feed system and keep more nps corals, but this means hosting high nutrients. I know this means I should do more water changes, but I'm also trying to figure out if I want to add a sump, canister filter, reactor, etc., to help keep parameters in normal range. Right now I have a mini turf scrubber, refugium, purigen, and carbon within the aio filtration section of the Cardiff. I have a Marineland 350 Canister filter with a Poret filter foam modification ( http://ww
  20. Hey there, I'm setting up a new tank for a pair of mated clowns, and am thinking a 20(tall)-29 gallon tank. Anybody have any filter setup suggestions? In the actual tank I have about 20lbs of livesand, 15lbs of liverock, hermits, and ulva, caulerpa and chaeto on algae sinks. At this time I'm not looking to do corals(although I have a light capable of maintaining corals), but rather an anemone for the happy fish couple, so I need a fair amount of flow. Canister route? I have space for a sump but its not preferred. hang on the side refugium? (if so, anywhere know where I could find a prebu
  21. After sitting on the floor of my fish room for nine months, I'm throwing in the towel and acknowledging the fact that I simply don't have time to set up the predator tank that I wanted. TAKE THE WHOLE KIT AND KABOODLE FOR $450!!! The main tank is a 110-gal aquarium. This used to be one of Jake's sumps at RCA, so it has a 2" bulkhead in one end that I thought would be very useful during water changes. Asking $100 A 29-gal aquarium that was going to be part of the sump system. Asking $30 The skimmer is an Aqua-C EV 240 with a Mag18 pump. There's a cosmetic crack in the collection cu
