  1. Nice...acrylic? You should provide more detail and highlight that nice EuroReef/ReefDynamics skimmer. That should be a big selling-point. I feel like I've seen this tank before...is there another large bowfront in that room right next to this one?
  2. Is it just my impression or is the reef display tank at Aquatek looking "less than optimal" under those LEDs?

Does look different. The verdict is still out for me on LEDs. Too costly of a lighting change for me now without seeing a mega-awesome tank lit by LEDs. It looks cool (for an alternative to actinic lighting), but the jury is still out for me to use it as my main lighting.

What kind of LED's do they have on it?

I think they're the Canons, like at RCA.

  3. By "large purchase", do you mean a single item or several things? If it's a single item and you can't find any coupons, Marine Depot has a low-price guarantee, so if you find a lower price from another online store, they will match the price and refund 10% of the difference. http://www.marinedepot.com/md_low_price_guarantee.html

    Refugium mud?

I think most people use that "Miracle Mud" if you want to research it.
  5. I'm sure it is. I was just curious if it was an Oceanic tank.
  6. Who is the tank manufacturer and how old is the tank? What does it look like up-top, e.g., 3-section plastic bracing, center-glass bracing, euro-bracing?

  8. I'm a firm believer that the way a tank is established from the very beginning plays a huge role in what is required from a maintenance standpoint going forward. My first reef tank was a 75g. Not bad, but I went through the whole gamut of problems: cyano, gha, bryopsis, RTN, yadda-yadda. Probably made every rookie mistake in terms of setting it up. Even with consistent water-changes, there were never-ending problems. With my current 135g tank, I took all of my acquired knowledge and applied it from the beginning. Let me tell you, it's been a real pleasure the past 13+ months. I've only done about two or three 15g water changes in that time out of pure guilt, not necessity. On top of that, I've been skimming only part-time (12 hrs/day) for the past 3-4 months. My maintenance schedule now consists of replacing the topoff jug, re-filling the dosing containers and cleaning the skimmer neck/cup as needed, and changing the carbon every 3-4 months.
  9. Boy, I thought hooking-up my VHO ballast/bulbs was intimidating and confusing.
  10. Any recommendations for a margarita machine rental place?

Now, if I invite you, I'd have to invite all of ARC...y'all would spend the whole night in the LR with my tank.

  11. I think tanks are like people...each has their own expiration date that varies. Some people have had the same tank for 15+ years and other tanks fail before they reach their first anniversary.
  12. A snip here today, a clip there tomorrow...should be loaded-up with frags by the next swap.

  13. My tank finished in a 3-way tie for January TOTM on Saltwaterfish.com. That's OK, I still get the $50 gift certificate!

That's OK. I got paid, which was the whole point. SWF TOTM is certainly not even close to RC TOTM stature.

  14. "If the salt in the sea could be removed and spread evenly over the Earth's land surface, it would form a layer more than 500 feet thick, about the height of a 40-story office building."

  15. You would think that with all of the people on RC, there would be a better selection of corals for sale in the classifieds.

    1. mcallahan

      mcallahan

part of the issue is that a lot of people won't ship and RC contains a wide spread group of hobbyists. I've often looked but not found anything local.

  16. My Purple Tang (does it get more reef safe?) has eaten more corals than all the other fish I've ever had (combined). That's including my 4" Townsend Angel.

      Whatcha fragging?

  19. Sorry, I forgot, I've purchased from Mr. Cob's as well...nice frags too. Plus, being in Buda, you live right near his drop-off/pick-up location.
  20. Also, Austin Aqua Farms (also a local sponsor) sells nice Aussie frags on eBay. You can make arrangements with Matt to pick-up at his location off Burnet Rd to save on shipping.
  21. River City Aquatics and Aquatek are both local and have quite a nice selection. Aqua-Dome (south) too. Not sure if we're allowed to post external, non-sponsor links (per forum rules).
  22. Locally or online? Define "best"....best selection or best prices?

I'll make sure to dip it in soy sauce before putting it in my "tank".

fatty tuna is the best. $5.45 a piece isn't a bad price for fatty tuna.
