  1. I've read that restricting the input will stress the pump, but not restricting the output....just what I've read. Using a tee is probably best though.
  2. I love how you can see the same exact coral on 3 different sites with 3 different names....one more corny than the next.

Acans are the same way. Um I think I've been arguing this fer years. I don't care how LE you think your coral is. The oceans are big. I just picked up an ATL fire polyp undata, others call it Jedi Mind trick monti. Stoopid.

Your ATL fire polyp gave me Gonipora

Well actually Fishy's corals are all LE and are the best in Austin. But I don't buy them because he knows the names. I buy them so he will be my friend for an hour.

  3. I was wondering why there were so many people there at 1:00!
  4. Lovin' my new Blue Hammer coral from AAF.

  5. Who was the genius that planted a Weeping Willow tree next to my driveway? This thing needs to be trimmed more than bryopsis.

  8. Yeah, but you're running the 430 ballast, right?
  9. Based strictly on what I've read, the VHO bulbs look much brighter when run on IceCap 660 ballasts, which overdrive the bulbs.
  10. TISUT: I've been suffering as a NY Jets fan since 1979...and counting.

zip the word hole callahan...@ Pat...this is our year, if we leave the pretty commentators alone and not throw footballs at them ;-)

  11. I'll bet Jake at RCA can give you a competitve price too. Plus, if you have an ARC membership, I think you get 10% off tanks.
  12. Aquatek. Prices are taped to the freshwater display tank upfront....but you just missed the annual sale where they take 25% off all tanks.
  13. At a minimum, I would fill it with a few inches of water and let it sit. At least you're testing to see if the bottom leaks.
  14. Do saltwater fish eat nightcrawlers? There's a worm festivus going on across my back deck.

Ouch. I really went the extra mile today...cleaned all sponges and vacuumed out the sump.

  16. Yeah, I don't remember seeing anything in the instructions about putting them on the same side.
  17. The one design flaw, other than the sheer bulk of the box, is the fact that the motor just kinda sits in the bottom of the box, i.e., not really secured to anything. Thus, there's bound to be some vibration, or should I say, "Brrrrooooowwwwwmp"
  18. Yeah, there's a whole, lengthy thread about them on RC (and other forums): http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1703568
  19. I'm seriously considering the 14K Plusrites....$10.26/bulb, Phoenix-like color, and supposedly great PAR.
  20. Did they ever establish exactly how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

what's a woodchuck and why would it chuck wood?

  21. That's why I always let mine run 24/7. I would think the wave motion would help the fish stay suspended in the water column when they're 'sleeping', i.e., a good thing.
  22. Just a little tip..... Don't slide the box around to clean the glass. The magnets will scratch the glass. Remove the box altogether to do cleaning/maintenance.
  23. You can do all of those things, but I would let it run at night too. Your corals will open-up at night to feed and the wave motion will only help. If you want more of a steady stream, just turn the 'pulse' knob at the top all the way up. For a steady, low stream, turn the top knob all the way up and the bottom knob all the way down.
  24. truth in status updates Tuesday: I set-up my 1st SW tank (55g) in 1994 with no liverock, just a Fluval as filtration & waterflow, and never did a waterchange (just topped-off with NJ tap water)....no wonder I never had a fish live more than 2 weeks. Thank you, Internet.

At least you knew to use freshwater, not saltwater to top off. I just learned that oh......a month ago. No wonder I couldn't get anything to grow.

Haha! I used to dip my LR (which was coral skeletons Dyed certain colors) in bleach every month!

@Mark that sounds familiar :) Also back in those days, bristleworms were bad.

  25. +1. As with most things in this hobby, it comes down to personal preference.
