  2. Read Hydro Innovations build thread because he gives you a pretty good idea of what you'll be getting for your money. I think the overall, general consensus on GC is that they build solid tanks at affordable prices, but with sloppy silicon work and poor customer service. Personally, I'd prefer to go with AGE. However, if cost is a factor (AGE is expensive), I'd look at OceanView for a custom tank build (Jake at RCA is a distributor).
  3. Brian, Mike & his friend, and I moved the whole 180g set-up (livestock/equipment/rocks) in about 3.5 hours.

      awesome job...

  5. I bought Finfriend's (Brian) complete 180g set-up, but I've re-listed the tank/stand/canopy for sale in his 'Complete Systems' thread for a steal of a price. Hurry, get in line!

  6. I've been racking my brain about an in-wall build for my 240g for 18 months and couldn't make it work aesthetically....finally today, an epiphany!

In walls are about as classy as a double wide. Just IMHO. ;)

  7. Lots of new faces on the board lately....cool.

  8. I like my water surface to be rockin'. It creates a great shimmer effect with the halides.
  9. Pretty, but grass should be grown in a yard, not a fish tank.

  11. Anybody go to the estate sale in Briarcliff?

  12. DSA Neo 185 is 60x30x24 (brick) and runs about $1100 at the LFS. Marineland Deep Dimensions 200g is 48x36x27 and runs about $1300. Marineland Deep Dimensions 250g is 60x36x27 and runs about $1500. Glasscages.com has both your dimensions (190g/195g wide) and each run about $900 (plus overflows). Ocean View will give you the best price on a decent, custom-built tank. That is, unless of course you want to go TOTL and order a custom AGE tank through Kingfish, but be prepared to spend $$$. Jake at RCA will give you a 10% discount on DSA/Marineland tanks with the ARC membership card. Plus, they'll deliver the tank to your house for a very reasonable fee.

    Tank build

River City Aquatics (near Round Rock) sells RO/DI....$1 for 5 gallons.

I use the BRS ROX carbon. Maybe it's just my impression, but my water seems to stay much clearer, much longer compared to other carbon I've used. I switched to the BRS Soda Ash for Alk (huge savings), but I still use Seachem Reef Compete for calcium because it doses other ions as well (magnesium & strontium). I hated B-Ionic....could never keep Ca/Alk in balance.
  15. Some good friends are moving to Des Moines, Iowa. Guess who's hosting MACNA XXIII 2011? "Sure, we'll come visit you guys! What are you doing Sept 9th-11th?"

Score! But really, De Moines? How/Why were they selected to host a SW conference?!

  16. My Lawnmower Blenny is so fat, he rests on his stomach, not his little pectoral fins.

Some guy in California. I think I saw the rebuild on RC.

  21. Am I wrong to chuckle when I see RC forum builds that look like they cost thousands of dollars and hours and the tanks look horrible?

    1. pbnj

      pbnj

I'm talking the kind of builds that involve knocking down walls, putting in basement support beams, drilling through nice hardwood floors, etc.....and for what?

    2. pbnj

      pbnj

Without getting into specifics, there's one in particular that falls into this category....the person would have been better-off just putting a Fluval canister filter on the tank.

I think it's sad, tons of money & toys but no understanding of what's really going on.

My tank now has one Koralia 8 (length), two Koralia 4's (width), and the Tunze controllable pump from my old 6212 Wavebox (but no box; also length).
