  1. If you catch the shrimp take em out, and put em in the sump if you have one. That way the royal will be alone to get the food. Then try again. IME the coke bottle is the best bet for not tearing your tank apart. Another option is to drain the tank Most of the way and try to get him in the shallow water. Also some folks have had luck going in at night when the lights are out then turning on the lights real fast which will in essence, stun the fish, and slow em down, makingthem easier to catch. Lastly if you have the room you could try to move all rock to one side and use an egg crate to separate the tank in half trapping the fish on the side with no rock. HTH
  2. Set up BRS dosing pumps last night..... Phew no more dosing by hand, can't say I'm gonna miss that!

  5. Wow nice looking coral, that has some really great color!!
  6. Wow, very sorry to hear about the loss of your fish, that really sucks. It can def be hard to watch the poor guys decline. You bring up some very good points about QT, and I have to agree with you that it is definitly a good practice. I learned the hard way and introduced a hefrichi firefish that was sick and it cost me three fish. But now there will be no fish added to my DT that have not gone through a QT process. It is a decision that has to be made whether or not it is worth it to QT and IMO I have to agree with you 100% it is well worth the time, effort and extra bit of money. Again sorry to hear about your loss.
  7. Would you consider doing an occasional Sunday meeting?
  8. That's a great looking pair of fish, nice pick up. Only have experience with my occ/perc pair, and I gotta say that my little perc picasso is one of my faves. Really like the look of the snowflakes and picasso's. After that the pink skunk's are a very cool looking fish too.
  9. That is a great looking fish, and good advice too about keeping some of the beautiful fish that are reef safe with caution. Hmmm fish or shrimp and crabs? After seeing this guy gonna have to say fish wins.

    New logo

Yeah very nice, like the new look a lot!
  11. Thanks for the updates Mike, these are all great changes!!!! So my only question is my membership is about to expire, will there be a renewal option when the store comes back online?
  12. IMO with a standard 90 gallon tank, if you have good bulbs you should be fine with your setup. Start them low and then gradually move them up in the tank. I run a 4 bulb t5 unit on my tank (with ATI bulbs, and 20" deep) and have had pretty good success keeping SPS. Each time I add a new coral I start it on the sand bed for a couple of weeks and then gradually move it up to where I want it to be. My corals have grown well and show good color, and I even keep a couple on the sand with no issues. And yes most SPS like strong flow.
  13. Merry merry ARC, hope everyone got what they wanted for their tanks!!

  14. To quote a famous commercial "Brilliant"
  15. You can definitely find new lights for a 75 under $700. The biggest thing with lights is knowing what you want to keep in the tank. Soft corals will demand less light than Large polyp stony corals which demand less light than the small polyp stonies. Do you have an idea of which corals you would like to keep? You also have to decide whether you want Metal halide lights, fluorescent (which there are a couple of different types), or LED. As for adding livestock, IMO it is advisable to get your water tested and know where your levels of Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates, Salinity and pH are before you add anything. Once you add corals you are going to need to keep track of things like alkalinity, calcium and magnesium. (These levels are dependent upon whicj type of coral you choose to keep). Check out this link there are many good articles about saltwater basics: http://archive.reefc...threadid=102605
  16. Congrats and welcome to this wonderful, and very addicting hobby! The best advice moving forward as you get your tank started is to take it slow, and be patient, and do a lot of research. Most people will tell you that nothing good happens fast in this hobby. This is a great site to ask questions and get advice as there are a lot of great folks here with a ton of experience. Good luck moving forward and welcome.
  17. Congrats Mike look forward to seeing what you have "up your sleeve". And Thank You Andrew for this great site, good luck to you as you move forward.
  18. Looking for a frag of sunset milli.
  19. + 1 on RCA he had some very nice frags of strawberry shortcake. Here's are cruddy phone pick of the frag I picked up last week:
  20. Awesome, glad that you caught him!!!
  21. Yeah they are not pretty that is for sure, I had to do the same thing and it took me about 3-4 days to catch a flame angel that was nipping my corals. But he eventually got hungry and went in there, so there is hope
  22. Yeah, you may have to wait and not feed for a day or so, if you do I would recommend leaving the trap in the tank so they get used to it being there with no food.... Also when I made mine I made the entrance a little bigger by cutting the hard part of the plastic neck off and give him a little room to get in.
  23. Cool, it should work, you may have to be a little patient, but if he is hungry he will eventually go in there for the food. Let us know when you catch him!!!!
  24. Try the homemade water/coke bottle trap. They are easy to make. I have used this method many times to catch fish in my tank, and every time the cleaner shrimp has gone in there to chomp on the food. HTH Here is a video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBX6wbOa98w
