  1. Protein Skimming is definitely going to help. We do need more info from you in order to provide valuable information.
  2. I noticed when I have a pair of clowns they are more aggressive compared to just one. on a side note: I just saw a movie on Netflix called CoralReefAdventure. In the movie it explained why some ocellaris are black. They changed color to mimic the color of a black anemone.
  3. I recommend a Trumpet Coral / Candy Coral or a Torch
  4. I advocate feeding coral. I add phytoplankton once a week and I feed my fish Rod's food once or twice a week which also feeds the corals. I do not have an SPS only tank so keeping pristine water quality is not as important to me. I try to target feed my acans, brain and torch with a turkey baster. In Julian Sprung's book: Corals-A Quick Reference Guide...ittells you what you want to feed corals. It's a good reference, but that'sexactly all it is..a reference. I amfinding that nothing in this hobby is absolute. Example from the book: Euphyllia glaberescens (Torch) Feeds on sun, phytoplankton, zooplankton, marine snow, fish feces, fish and shrimp, snails... For chemical feeding I would recommend Iodine from what corals you mentioned.
  5. I do not have a PAR meter. I could take a picture with only this bulb turned on over the tank. I'll take the picture tonight.
  6. Does it look REAL dim....like nightlight dim?
  7. This bulb, UV Super Actinic Bulb - 420nm, has a light purple color and looks really dim. Is it true that the human eye cannot see 420nm UV light so it is naturally going to seem dim? The bulb is brand new and looks extremely less bright compared to the AquaticLife 420/460 nm Actinic that came with the fixture (AquaticLife 4 bulb T5). thanks for your help
  8. Great video Mark! Your son really seems to like it
  9. I noticed on Aquacave the next size up is $8 more : http://www.aquacave.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=743
  10. Hello, I totally forgot about it. I definitely want to stop by and see your setup sometime, but I don't think I'll be able to make it this weekend.
  11. I have two and they don't bother anything but Algae. I think one is from Rockin Reefs, the other is from AquaDome
  12. What up Josh, I am down for that encrusted war coral. I can come by after work tomorrow (early evening) or anytime this weekend. thanks, Derek
  13. I see my leopard wrasse hunting pods, not sure if he eats flatworms or not
  14. Space is the reason for my question. I have two HOB's now. A third HOB might tip the tank over.....lol
  15. Thanks for the info Will. The Phosban reactor for $44.99 aint bad. So, when I start dosing this I can stop running my AquaClear (HOB) filter which I use only for my activated carbon bag? FYI: I am currently using an AquaC Remora skimmer
  16. For a small (29 gallon) aquarium without a sump what would ya'll recommend I use to run these pellets. I am curious if this will help cut down on the amount of algae that grows on the glass etc. I just re-did the aquascaping to add more open areas between the rock for better flow. It was just this past Sunday so hard to tell if it made a difference or not.
  17. I am interested in getting a med. size one. I cannot make it to Elgin until the weekend. Will you be avail. during the day Sat. or Sun.? thanks, Derek
  18. I would stick to a salt mix of some kind. They have been developed to include ideal concentrations of calcium, magnesium, strontium and other trace elements as well as buffers for PH and Alkalinity. My fav is Seachem Reef Salt
  19. Pm sent. Are you available today? I took the day off.
  20. + 1 for baking some more in then sun or bleaching it then cooking.
  21. I would recommend using Vinegar or the tank and pumps. Cleaning an Acrylic tank can be a real pain and vinegar will make the Algae flake off. For tough spots I would use an old credit card so you don't scratch the acrylic.
