  1. Do you know if the watchman is male or female? Or how hard it is for them to pair?

I have a yellow in my cube that lost his shrimp a while back.

Not sure of the sex, and have never paired gobies with each other. Pairing up a goby and a shrimp is dead simple, they pretty much find each other within a day or two and start shacking up.

  4. Just wanted to provide a quick update. I inadvertently took down the website this morning while making backing up the site. Thanks to Andrew for all of his help bringing it back up. We're working on the missing images now and will do the best we can to restore them. I'll provide a status update here when done.

For future notice, we will update our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/AustinReefClub) if there is ever an issue with the club site, so go ahead and bookmark us there (and friend the club!) as a backup means of communication. Thanks,

    Mike and the ARC staff

Hi Chipp, some of the events you selected conflict: Aquarium tour and fish collecting Sat afternoon; and MAAST BBQ Dinner and ARC Bonfire. Just wanted to clarify for others planning their schedule that you might be able to do both but that you'll most likely miss part of each event if you're doing the other.

  6. Please note the revised itenerary in the opening post and answer the following questions if you intend to go. Something like:

  7. Time to consider parting out. I'll be selling the tank and stand first, once they're sold I'll list livestock (I'm not selling livestock unless the tank sells).

Or take the whole thing with live rock, sand, and livestock in the Complete systems thread.

  8. My two large Rose Bubbletip Anemones split last night to celebrate the birth of our country! I've got two healthy clones about 5-7" when extended. $80 each. (Paypal required to hold)

Here are pics of the actual clones (in the pic you can see the one on the right in the process of splitting from the one on the left)

As you can tell from the following picture, these open up huge when the lights were on (they're shrunken quite a bit in the clone shots due to them splitting and it being later at night). Here are pics of the mother and original clone (to the right) before this split:

  9. In anticipation of my new larger tank, I'll be getting rid of my two smaller tanks (90g and 34g). First to go is the Solana.

Note this is a listing in the "Complete Systems" thread. Please do not make offers on parting out in this thread.

Please excuse the pics as the glass hasn't been cleaned recently. I had always intended to frost or tint the glass on the cabinet door to hide the contents but never got around to it, it would be very easy to do. The LED fixture has blue, royal blue, and white LEDs and all three are adjustable (this is one of the fixtures Timfish built at our March meeting).

    Sale includes:

    • 34g Solana Tank (small scratch front top left corner)
    • Solana Stand
    • Apex Jr (new in box, never used)
    • Autotopoff setup (float valve, tubing, aqualifter, 5g shorty water jug)
    • Custom LED fixture
    • Solana skimmer and Saphire skimmer
    • 2 powerheads
    • Aquarium top screen

Includes live rock, sand, and the following livestock:

    • 2 naked clowns (paired)
    • 1 anthias
    • 1 bangai cardinal
    • 1 watchman goby/tiger pistol shrimp pair
    • various cuc (elephant slugs, hermits, emerald crab, porcelain crab, tiger cucumber)
    • 6" sebae anemone (hosted by clowns)
    • cabbage coral
    • mini-carpets (4 - 1 large, 3 small)
    • various mushrooms on live rock

  10. I definitely want an ato, just nervous about potential failures. Everyone says that all atos fail at some point. An overflowing tank and water damage would be enough for the wife to banish me from the hobby forever lol. I top off manually several times a day, and have my in laws top off twice a day when I leave town. It's about 65 total gallons of water includin the sump and fuge, and I only lose about 1/2 a gallon a day or less to evap.

On my 90g and my 34g I have ATOs by Autotopoff.com. I have 5g RO containers. Even if the ATO stuck on, my sump could handle the overflow and it wouldn't dilute my salinity enough to hurt anything. They are invaluable when I want to leave town for a few days....

  12. My apologies Louis, the tour ran much longer than I think anyone anticipated. I know it's hard to keep staff sitting around waiting on a crowd that doesn't materialize. Let's try it again when we can make a field trip down minus the distractions that a SeaWorld family trip entails.

  13. I just wanted to say thanks for everyone who participated. I couldn't have been prouder of our members and the turnout, all of you are what make the effort worthwhile and the club fun. Let's give a round or applause for the staff and all they did to make this happen! I've already heard back from SeaWorld about how much they enjoyed having us there. Evidently some other club events have been problematic, so they were taking a chance with us and they couldn't be happier with the result. They already want to start talking about next year's trip and how to do even more for us.

And yes, as Bige said, Mark Telzrow (the coral guy) came in on his day off just to be able to show us their setup. He said they are totally into reefkeepers and hobbyists and he really enjoyed it. He mentioned that he hopes to be at MACNA this year for anyone who wants to stop by and say hi.

  14. I had the same and put one of the large black pump filters (12"x3"x3") behind the teeth of my overflow. When the wave hits the overflow it is deflected by the filter and then trickles down the overflow rather than making the wave splash sound you describe.
