  1. Just a few changes to Patrick's post:

    Friday - 7/27

    Check-in to hotel

    MAAST Bonfire on the beach

    Saturday - 7/28

7:15am - 9:30pm --ARC "Build your own Breakfast Taco" at the Beachgate meeting room. $5pp, pay at the door

8:00am - 12: 00pm -- Arrival for people who did not come in Friday night

2:00pm -- Texas State Aquarium trip OR Fishing and Collecting off the Jetty - We did not have enough advance interest to justify booking a club visit to the Aquarium, so we will not be eligible for the discounted group rate.

6:00pm -- MAAST barbecue dinner OR ARC Bonfire on the Beach (burgers and dogs or Bring Your Own and we'll cook it)

7:00pm -- Head out to the jettys for critter collecting while there is still light

    9:00pm -- ARC bonfire

    Sunday - 7/29

8am -- ARC breakfast together, no charge. This will be great time to eat up all our leftovers

    Hotel checkout

  2. We're planning a few "group" cooking activities so I would like to see if we can gather a list of equipment that we'll need for our events.

    Bonfire -

Who has a truck we can use to gather wood for the bonfire?

    Breakfast tacos -

I'll be providing the ingredients for this

    Saturday night BBQ -

Patrick (subsea) has offered to cook and help you cook your catch (fish, crabs, shrimp) but we will need a variety of propane tanks and other cooking equipment. If we don't catch enough, we're thinking that you can buy whatever raw seafood you prefer for you and your family and we can all cook together at Beachgate (our hotel has picnic tables and grills as well as a fish-cleaning area)

    Anything else I'm forgetting?

  3. I love it when a fish I thought was missing shows back up, though I'd be a little leery of having my hand in the tank with a lion that I couldn't find. With my luck I'd grab his spines.

    Athenia? I was thinking Anthelia?

  4. We all know that finding reputable news and advice in the reef-keeping hobby can be difficult at best. Reef Hobbyist Magazine to tries to fill this niche through the quarterly publication of their magazine.

Austin Reef Club is proud to announce that starting in August we will have Reef Hobbyist Magazines available to attendees of our monthly club meetings. If you miss a meeting or if you're the type who prefers a digital copy you can grab a .pdf of the latest issue in our RHM forum or subscribe to have it sent directly to your email.

Let's all give a big ARC welcome to Reef Hobbyist!

  5. The nice thing about the wand is that the tip is like a very large needle. Unlike kalk paste or other methods, this allows you to plunge the tip directly into the aiptasia and not affect the surround corals. Watch the video and you'll see what I'm saying.

And dapettit lives up north, so assuming it's not currently loaned out it wouldn't be that far from you.

  6. The natural, wild hosts of the oscellaris consist of: Heteractis magnifica (magnificent anemone), Stichodactyla gigantea, and Stichodactyla mertensii (the last 2 are species of carpet anemone). The wild hosts of percs are: Heteractis magnifica, Heteractis crispa (sebae), Stichodactyla gigantea.

So, a carpet would actually be a GOOD choice for you, as long as it is not a haddoni. Stichodactyla gigantea is most readily available, but is "expert only" due to high light requirements and venomous nature to humans.

If you're POSITIVE you have a misbar percula, and not a misbar oscellaris, a sebae is an easy good choice too.

I believe the reason he was saying a carpet anemone would be bad is that even if your clowns love them they often eat other fish and critters in your tank. Mark (mcallahan) has some great videos showing exactly what happened with the carpet he had in his tank.
