  1. I noticed somewhere that the T5 lights are rated for 20,000 hours. How often does everyone have to replace their T5's?
  2. My new T5 light finally got delivered and I installed it about 15 minutes ago. I am still working on the digital timer entries. In the T5, I have 2 10,000K's and 2 Actinic 03's. I must say the tank is much brighter and quite a bit "bluer" than it was with the CF bulbs. The CF bulbs were 8 months old and needing to be replaced, I think. Now if I can just get the built-in digital timer squared away, I will be happy, at least for today.

    Corals!!

How about the green polyp toadstool?
  4. These are t8's not t5's but check these out. http://www.hero-ledstore.com/led-fluorescent-tube-lamp-t8-18watt-4foot-330led-1600lm-90v280v-p-400.html
  5. I think we need to have a meeting at Mike M.'s house.
  6. Mike I don't mean to be nosy but what that "nice rig" set you back?
  7. All I was interested in was getting rid of my aiptasia thickets. It has accomplished that and kept it that way for about 18 months now.
  8. I ordered some from beghia.net about a year ago. I released them into my tank per the instructions. I have not had an aiptasia problem since, although it took several months before the colony got large enough to make a dent in the aiptasia population. I can occasionally see a couple of the little buggers if I get up in the night and use my flashlight. They do not like light at all. If you had any rock at all, they would be extremely hard to harvest.

  10. Avoiding problems is an admirable goal. Good luck! Just remember, everyone has an opinion. It doesn't mean their solution will work for you. Research! Research! Research!
  11. Beautiful tank in a lovely home. Superb hosts. Great meeting.
  12. You could ask the LFS to see if they have a pressure gauge you can borrow. It'd be better than buying one.
  13. Dave, I live in Hutto. Add me to the Georgetown group?

I will be at the meeting and I'd like some as well, please?
  15. Bring to the meeting Sunday?
  16. Sounds like a good movie title. Are you SURE it is peppermint shrimp? From whom was it purchased?
  17. I just want white or natural colored rocks like I see in yall's tanks. I do not want them to be green anymore.
  18. My sump is a Tidepool II by Marineland. It came as a kit with the tank. I set this tank up over 4 years ago and I have always had nitrate issues. I could never get it below 40. The sump had a bio-wheel feature. Recently, I read that the bio-wheel has a bacterial component that converts nitrogen to nitrates. About 10 days ago, I built the turf scrubber and removed the wheel. The scrubber had built up some algae and my nitrates, ammonia, etc. have not changed. It is way too soon. I am hoping over the next 6 to 8 weeks to get my parameters in better order.
  19. My temp stays about 80 to 82 which is all I am really concerned about. I am running CF lighting at this point but I am either going to change to T5 or (by strong preference) LED. I don't do deep water or SPS corals. I try to stick to what I think are Caribbean types of coral. I think those typically live in warmer waters than what I am keeping. If my turf scrubber will get my phosphates and nitrates under control so my algae will go away, I will be a very happy camper. I am not currently using a skimmer.
  20. O my. That moves it down the priority list a few notches.
  21. OK so what did your controller run you? My $10 fan is keeping my tank at about 80 or so. I have putting in about 2.5 to 3 gallons a day. Sometimes I do turn it off at night. My AC is set to 82.
  22. I had problems with MAAST management and withdrew my membership. What I did was mention that I found an item on EBAY, gave the search criteria I used to find it, and they deleted my post. I did not post a link of any sort. That was way too Nazi for me. San Antonio is too far for me anyway.
  23. AAF is just up 79 from where I live. I have been there a couple of times. Matt's setup is really awesome. Just keep trying. They will get in touch with you eventually.
  24. Diatomaceous earth is also used in water filters of all sorts. How and where did you spread it?
