  1. I take water to two LFS just for a double check. I wish it was the test kit.
  2. It seems I aways have medium to high nitrates no matter what I do. So I keep searching for something that will help. I found a link to building a DIY Sulphur Denitrator. From what I read, it seemed to remove nitrates rapidly. Has anyone had any experience with this? It seems to be very similar to a calcium or phosban reactor. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...postid=11561141
  3. Why will the frags be slow growing?
  4. I have come across some articles about zoanthids and plays having toxins, specifically 'palytoxin'. Here is one link: http://www.cbwinfo.com/Biological/Toxins/Palytoxin.html and another: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.p...light=zoanthids Has anyone had any problems here? I haven't noticed any but my hands are not in my tank much.
  5. My mandarin finally started eating frozen brine. I think I have declared my tank a "No 'Nem" zone.
  6. This was my first tub of Red Sea Pro salt and it was the end of the tub, at that. I kept it sealed and had the internal bag sealed as well. Do you think buying smaller amounts would keep it fresher so that I don't run into this again?
  7. Yesterday, I got set up to do a water change. I put a trash can liner in my Brute 40, added 20 gallons of RO water, Red Sea Pro salt, and threw in a couple of Maxijets 1200's to stir it all up. This is my usual method of creating new salt water. In the winter, I add a heater to get it up to about 75 degrees or so. This time after half an hour, the water was very milky looking. Even in a small glass container, you could see it. It was still that way this morning. I am putting it down the kitchen sink as I write this. I have never had this problem before. We used to used trash can liners when we made "Party Punch". I have read that the liners are very nearly sterile from manufacture. I won't use one again. Has onyone else had a problem like this?
  8. I found this news story on NewScientist.com. If dealers could get the more heat tolerant corals, could we no longer need chillers? http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn1718...t-the-heat.html
  9. I have two k 2's in my 75 and I think I could use a bit more.
  10. If that K 3 is too strong for your tank, I'll swap you a Koralia 2 for it.
  11. I'd try Radio Shack or one of the computer stores like Altex.
  12. Last time I checked, RCA had a couple of the lights but none for sale.
  13. I'll be there. My plans got changed. I was informed I was going to a wedding instead. Yippee.
  14. so tell us more about your DIY chiller. I'd like to know how you did it.
  15. I have been there. Matt and his dad run a 1st class operation. Outstanding corals.
  16. I replied to a thread about LED lights saying I had bought some off Ebay and gave the search criteria to find it. I did NOT post a link. Bigbird deleted my post and PM'ed me saying access points to Ebay were not allowed. I pointed out that I did not post a link and he said that posting the search criteria 'LED aquarium light' was the problem. I withdrew my membership. I will NOT be returning to the MAAst site.
  17. Excellent. I just wanted to be sure that the meeting wasn't rained out.
  18. Will there be room in covered spaces if it rains during the meeting?
  19. Will you be at the meeting tomorrow? If so, can you bring the fans?
  20. I have been having some problems with my zoas and from talking to a few others, it is not an uncommon problem. I ran across this article yesterday on reefdiscussion.com and I wanted some feedback from the more experienced people in the group. See yall Saturday! http://www.zoaid.com/articles004.php
  21. Brooks, I have about half a bag of Coralife Scientific Grade Marine Salt you can have if you need it. It'd make about 25 gallons I think.
  22. I can transport the Sanfords tables if need be. I have a truck. Let me know.
  23. In reading the various threads, I have come across terms that I do not quite understand: My understanding of FRAG is an itty bitty piece of coral with minimal chance of survival. However, two others I don't get are COLONY and MINI-COLONY. Are these different from the aforementioned FRAG? Are they bigger with better survival chances? How can I tell the difference between a FRAG and a COLONY?
  24. I think Blackmon Mooring can test this for you. I would start there.
  25. Just as a matter of information, what is the difference between a frag and a colony?
