ok Mike, this is some beautiful stuff, you need to tell us more about your tank, lighting, filtration, maintennace. Probly should do it in the reefkeeping forum to keep the web gods happy

perhaps not those that are out there, but I had some purple staghorn I think it was, it started as a frag from the one that Bruce has in his front tank at Aquatek. The owner had it in his tank, and he was getting out of the hobby and sold it to me. This thing was so big, it was literally as tall as a 5 gallon bucket, and we broke off multiple frags just to get it into a 5 gallon bucket for me to bring home. It did great, and one day we moved rock around, so I took it out and set it down for around 5 minutes on some newspaper. the WHOLE thing died later!! i see guys selling frags of this type for 30 bucks an inch, and it makes me sick when I think of the value of how much this coral was worth when it died. So the point is that if I frag or move rock, I have water from the tank ready to go to put it into while I do whatever to the tank. Really expensive lesson to learn, that coral was worth many hundreds of dollars.

can you say "salt creep"?

well, the honest answer is that not all stores are all things to all people. River City has Jake, really nice guy and he's the owner. Aquatek has Bruce and he's the owner. Both are great! Austin aquadome is another place, but its further south for me. I have to throw a big plug for Matt at Austin Aqua farms, his corals are just fantastic, but you have to go there at least once to see his stuff, your jaw will drop!

thats just sad, the loss of life, time and effort, and I bet they dont put it back up either.

no rush on my end, but I am ready to order when you are. I'll pm you my number if you want to talk or text.

I'd like to set this up as well, but I need other items from these guys as well. I bought my ro/di unit from them, and I need more DI, the dual membrane conversion kit ($77) and the entire setup for the Co2 removal, canister and mounting braket etc. Let me know, I can place the order and then you can hook me up when we meet up (I bought your green brain from you sometime back). Let me know.

Ok, I'm probably going to get smacked for posting a link to a sale, but I thought it would be worth it to someone. Mind you, I am not selling this, the link takes you to DFS.
This is for a 28 Gallon Nano cube, WITH free stand, and it includes everything you need to get started in saltwater. 2 powerheads, wavemaker, compact flourescent lights, etc. It may not be the best set up for more advanced, but it seems to get great reviews for beginners. Even if you just want it for freshwater, it looks pretty good, and easy to maintain. It doesn't include a heater, but reviews I've read state that the lights and gear heat it pretty well to 78 degrees. Just an FYI- might need a heater! As fro protein skimmer, depending on the fish you get (I want clown fish) it seems to be optional- filtration system should suffice. Do research before jumping in :-)
Features:
•105 watt 10,000°K/7,100°K compact fluorescent lighting
•(4) Nite-Vu LED lighting with separate power cord
•(2) Powerheads
•(2) Directional flow nozzles
•(1) Ocean Pulse Duo alternating wavemaker
•(2) Integrated cooling fans
•3-stage filtration with removable media basket
•Center overflow system
•Designated area for a heater (heater sold separately)
•Designated area for a protein skimmer (protein skimmer sold separately)
•Flame retardant ABS canopy housing
•Thermal protector for canopy (Auto Shut Off protection)
Final price is $250.98, after e b a t e 6% back, final price is $235 to your door.

Howdy all! I got roped into taking pictures at a formal event, and I feel that I should purchase an external flash to get the best pictures. I'm leaning towards an Nikon SB-600, but I'm open to suggestions. SB-900 is a little out of my price range and I doubt I would know how to use it effectively anyway, but please chime in!

yep, Mike nailed it exactly!

the co2 scrubber has been on my mind, so today when I got home I opened all the windows. in the space of 3 hours, my ph went from 7.91 to 8.08. Count me in if you do a group buy.

I totally agree with Mike, move your tank, it will be worth it in the long run, especially if you think you would want to jump back in. I can bring (6) 5 gallon jugs or a brute 32 gallon can to help move stuff. I have a truck too.
-
so the next question is how much is needed for a container, 1lb or more?
-
yep, thats it! The only ambiguous item is that no one says if the PH goes up X amount, they just say if it goes up, which is proably a given. Still, I have chronic low ph as well, and like yours, if I add chemicals, it seems to do pretty well. I should have really snapped that the ph went up for a few days last week when we had the windows open to aerate the house. of course, my allergies have about killed me and I got another sinus infection.
-
i cant find it this minute, but there is supposed to be a test you can do to see if you have too much co2 in your system. Basically, you take a bucket of water from your tank, measure the PH, then take the bucket outdoors/garage and airate it for X hours, then measure the PH again. if it goes up X amount, you have too much co2.
-
wow, looks like your reef roids are helping to "maintain" your canister, very cost effective! lol!
-
I'mm not an expert, so I dont know and perhaps others can chime in on this, but is it advisable to trim off skelton so as not to "cut" into new growth?
-
anyone get a response from this person? My scam-o-meter is twitching.....
-
wow, thats bloody fantastic! Makes me wonder if we could create a similar acclimation setup in our homes based on what they use there? Also, I like to see the people I'm buying from, rather than "the company" being some nebulous entity in another state.
