I have a gfo reactor. My phosphates are kinda high. . I have to replace my CUC regularly bc my eel eats them. [emoji51]. I’m starting over with new rock in my new tank. ONLY rock I’ll transfer over will be ones I cannot get current corals off of. I’ll try to give all that a good scrub and peroxide soak (except the coral) before adding it. Speaking of more flow, my powerheads gunk up pretty quickly with this stuff. I have to clean them weekly. Is this normal? I did put a plastic bowl in there to keep a ricordia frag from blowing around. Maybe that was it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I seem to always be trying to get rid of something. Lol. Now it’s this fine dusty looking rust colored stuff. It blows off easy. The tang and foxface don’t seem to eat it. My PO4 is .7. Still high, I know. New filters are on the way. Chemi-clean doesn’t touch it. Vibrant doesn’t either. I’m also running a dual reactor. Carbon is currently out bc some of my zoas don’t like it. 🤷‍♀️. Last night I Received a new coral purchase from Maine. In she included 5 nassarius as a freebie. So this tank was dry when you got it. The rock-it came dry or came from your cube? I see you said some of the Water was from your cube. I’m asking all of this bc when I set up my 140 I want it to go in the same spot as my current tank. I’d like to break down the 55 and set up the 140 all in one weekend. I wasn’t sure I could set up the new tank and not kill everything. The rock will be live and the sand. But all will be new except what I bring from my old tank Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is it like a tray? Did you DIY? I’d love a tray at the bottom. I think Meg and Dan have a tray under their sump as well and it has a sensor/float? connected to their apex. Whew!! What a day! I got a lot done yesterday on the stand. Completely ready to begin painting today. I figured I'd catch everyone up to speed while I'm waiting on first coat of paint to dry. Well, as you can see in the picture I need a truck! LOL!!! I didn't like all the holes in the top of the stand so I added a piece of 1/2" plywood to it and secured it down with 1-1/4" screws, countersunk about 1/8" so the tank doesn't sit on them. I felt like the holes took away from the integrity of the wood and I want this thing to be sturdy! I'm also going to put a yoga mat under the tank just to be on the safe side. I also added two pieces of 3/4" plywood in the back of the stand. I knew I wanted to close it in but didn't think 100% was necessary. I cut two pieces 16" wide and that gave me a perfect 2-1/4" gap between all the panels. Now I have the real estate to hang things if I need to, but still some gaps for ventilation. I decided to do it this way bc this stand I'm using was already used by someone once. I was able to see all the water damage on the inside and I thought having some areas for air to circulate may help. The bulk of my sanding and "fixing" was because of said water damage. This also lead me to another thought...Caulk I used the standard bathroom tub, tile, and window caulk to do all the seams in the inside of the stand. I can't say as I've ever seen or read of anyone doing this, but as a plumber it made sense. LOL And also because of the water damage on the inside of the stand. Since this upgrade has taken so many years, I don't plan on doing another one soon.... Need to make sure this one lasts! I caulked all the seams on the inside of the stand and the 3 doors. Using the same 1/2" plywood I used on the top, I cut a piece big enough for the bottom and reinforced that. I also added 4 feet I'd kept from an old couch (for this project and true to my thrifty self lol) I still need to add support in the middle, but that will be easy. Having the stand off the floor for ventilation is important to me. I got one coat of paint on the inside and the inside of all 3 doors. I'm Using oil based paint so I can't rinse the rollers and reuse them. I have to paint it all at one time and then toss that one in the trash. I feel good about the progress I made this weekend. This and tree trimming with my landlord has made for a busy weekend! Once the stand is complete, the plumbing will be the easy part!!!! And Dogfish..... I may have learned some more on this ole computer LOL I thing I put the photos into the text.... We'll see when I hit send

There is a fella in out group who says that’s what his profession is... installing and maintaining head systems. Does anyone know who he is? I have some questions. Too late now, but You can break up that salt with something or if it’s in a bag, take the bag out of the bucket and drop it on the garage floor a few times like a bag of ice. I do that every time I make Salt Water bc the humidity is so bad. Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I just read an article on Reef to Reef about the ridiculously loud noise that thing makes. So loud that he can’t run it at night. They have something to fix the noise, but the guy said it’s expensive like the alktronic. Have you turned it on yet? ok. I guess i was picturing the baffles and pieces on the inside needing to be siliconed in place because of how the solvent needed to be applied. But now that I think about a trigger sump, there is no silicone. I say things without thinking sometimes (a lot. lol) I did follow your thread, Dogfish, but guess I didn't pay that much attention to the acrylic welding. I'll go back and check that out. Knowing a custom sump is even a possibility is pretty exciting Today was pretty hot and gruesome at work, so no work on the tank in the hot garage. Rest in the AC and on the couch. We shall reconvene tomorrow. And I'm so used to my iPhone correcting all of my spelling, punctuation, and capitalization mistakes, please excuse the ones I make when trying to learn this mac.

That’s nice!! How big is your sump? I’ve heard it needs/should be 1/2 the size of the DT. Is this true? I found one a reefer is selling that may actually work good in my space and since my skimmer is external, it may be even better. I’ll try to attach a picture. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

May be hard to see in the picture, but I got the overflow box on the right off and just the panel on to cover the holes. The tank is finally clean!!! I’ve also put on my first coat of black on the back. I plan on getting a diamond bit this wkend to do my 3rd hole for the bean animal. And will begin planning the plumbing. It’s pretty much mapped out in my head, but want to draw it on paper. I’m waiting to hear back from a fellow reefer about a sump he has/didn’t use buried in his garage. That’s another hold up on the plumbing. I can buy the bulkheads and get those on, at least. In my drain manifold, I’m going to include a 3/4 hose-thread valve just to hook a hose to and do water changes. Probably one of those collapsible slinky type hoses that I can store easily in a tub. I’ve been thinking and thinking about how I’m gonna go Water changes on this bigger tank. Currently, I do 5 gal at a time. Still in a bucket. That’s not feasible on 180 gal system. So, I’ll plumb for it!! [emoji122][emoji122] That’s the only update for now. Oh yeah, I’m planning on closing in the back. Mark Blok is a great carpenter and is going to lend me his expertise.
