  1. the red bugs croaked!! Dosing the display was way less tramatizing than I expected. I really didnt notice anything unusual. My shrimps are still alive which worries me a little.I plan on dosing twice more in the following weeks to ensure a 100% kill and so I dont end up with some sort of resistant strain of bugs later on down the road.Afew of my lps corals were asking to be fed during traetment while the lights were on ? wierd.
  2. I tanks has been torn up by every bad critter I can think of.This is why my once glorious collection of acropora is sitting and fitting in a 5 gal tank as we speak. All but 2 of them are covered in red bugs. The little 5 gal and my display are getting an interceptor treatment right now. I thought about just tossing them but I figured I would try the interceptor. I am a couple of hrs into it right now so far so good. Take it from me if you dont dip and QUARANTEEN(at least a month maybe more) everything and I do mean every grain of sand to the biggest fish you WILL get something uninvited.I should just give up on acros because thats what the majority of bad stuff goes for. Unfortunately I think acros are really cool looking so here we go with the interceptor. Dont even get me started on acro eating flatworms , ****
  3. the mogul sockets do stick out quite a bit but I have them mounted sideways, otherwise they would interfere. you are right about the reflectors 14.5", but if you center them up and set them back a little so you can have descent access to get your hands in the ft of the tank it doesnt leave much room for an actinic strip in the back.In hindsight I really wish that I had gone with a 30" wide tank.
  4. oh ya, I can barely tell the actinics are on when the halides are on. Also I highly recc dimmable ballasts like coralvues. they overdrive or underdrive the bulbs at the turn of a knob. very helpfull when acclimating new corals. Also it allows some fine tuning of the color temp. cranked up (overdriven) 20k bulbs burn less blue. turned down (underdriven) they burn bluer. I like this feature alot .
  5. you could get it done with 3 luminarc minis as the spread on those is pretty good. I have 3 over my 72" 215 gal . I sometimes just run the outer lamps and the tank is still lit pretty well.It is going to be difficult to squeeze the vho's in there since the minis take up allmost all of the 24" width .I am barely able to squeeze just one strip of actinic t5's across the back. I have them kinda at an angle so they dont interfere with the halides.I would like to swap out the t5's for vho someday cause I have read that vho actinic floureses corals better than t5.If you are wanting to run that much actinic it makes me think you like the blueish look which I prefer myself. With 400w halides just use 20k bulbs and you get that look without the actinic and still have plenty of punch cause they are 400 watts.I only run my halides 5 hrs a day and the actinics for 12 so I can see my tank when I get home
  6. Ok give me a call so we can make arrangements. 512 924 2064
  7. I have a quaranteen setup that has got to go. Its a oceacic 75 gallon black oak that I drilled. There is no stand. The sump is a drilled 40 gallon breeder full of lr/sand/ chaeto / caulerpa/ pods /dusters .ect.there is approx 50 to 100 lbs of rock in this tank/sump, there are some very nice large pieces in the display. there are various zoos, palys, shrooms,a palau nepthia as big as your fist, and a hippo tang as big as your hand that I put in there cause he started eating acans when he was in my big tnk. There is a pretty big coralife external return pump that is quite powerful and quiet. A 36" current sundial 4 bulb light fixture on top. the back of the tank is drilled with 1 drain and 2 returns. the only thing I want to keep off of this setup is the powerhead. I just have too much going on to give this the attention that it deserves so the 1st $200 can have everything.
  8. I have 2 that need repair. they are non dimmable coralvue elec ballasts.the same ones I use on my tank without the dimmable feature. They used to belong to a friend of mine that had them plugged into a light strip that had a faulty chiller plugged into it causing the breaker and the ballasts to pop. He used them less than 6 months. I am not sure what the repairs would cost or if its even possible. One of many things on my list of stuff to get to.
  9. I have used both , after a few years its hard to tell them apart with all the coraline, sponges and what not.Im not really scared of unwanted hitchikers or freaky algea. I have pretty much been stricken with just about everything and came out ok.Except for those aefw's , those suck! Call me a tree hugger but with all the pressure this hobby puts on our reefs I feel that the least I could do is use dry rock instead of wild collected lr.The only lr I would not feel bad about using is from those outfits in florida that mine limestone from land, place it in a designated spot in the sea and go get it a year or so later when its full of life.
  10. I have a dead 660 but I think its still under warranty. I am just too lazy to send her back(again).
  11. I have 2 bnib 12k reeflux se bulbs I got from dustin when he took his tank down. I am not due for bulbs for awhile so lmk
  12. I would just sell/trade the rock that they are on and replace the rock with a shroom free rock. they look nice and healthy by the way
  13. One of my wetsides recently locked up.I have had a power supply failure and I have had a wireless controller just croak. I have used tunze streams in the past and I will say that they were absolutely more reliable and seem to be more powerfull. But all and all I just like the vortecs better. If thier customer service wasnt so good I would definately go back with the tunzes
  14. Good to know about the gypsum, I have had trouble with acid loving plants in the past. I might try this on some camilias I have that arent really doing much
  15. I'm pretty sure they will grow back
  16. I give 5 hrs of halide and 12 hrs of actinic
  17. hey mark, just lmk if you need me to bring something to work
  18. hey Dustin, I hate to see ya pull the plug after all that hard work but I know thats how it goes sometimes. You know you and your girl are welcome to come by anytime and bs. Anyhow give me a ring sometime I might could use some of your bulbs and what not. later
