  1. Sorry to hear about your 47 but on to bigger and better and I think I warned you about the GSP. If not, watch out it can take over! JK. I have a 72 bowfront and won't have another for a reef. Freshwater ok but cleaning coralline from a curved glass surface only leads to scratches... PS. One dimension of a cube needs to fit through a door!
  2. A little too hasty on my part, Tim... it should have been Protopalythoa
  3. giant disc = Palythoa grandis -- cinnamon polyp Personally, I would chisel the rock under the toadstool and then glue or epoxy the base to a new LR.

There are two acro crabs in this colony. It was fun trying to get the right angle -- 49 other angles didn't work out! While in this position he was rubbing back and forth applying pressure to his back, rubbing the coral -- I think it's to maintain a alley way within the colony. I've noticed the structure within other colonies as well.
  5. I wish I had the room for that war coral. Impressive colony!
  6. Coral and algae are symbionts so any good photosynthetic coral shot would fit the bill. eh?
  7. Way too high, if your meter/test is reading right...
  8. IMO ain't now way you should use that sand for a reef tank. Galveston Island sand is going to be quartz based as in the Rocky Mountains, etc. What you want for sand is calcium based, from areas supplied by reefs. I would not trust any beach sand along the Gulf Coast.
  9. PMd about the brown knife fish -- needed for a science fair project.
  10. For SPS, I would be trying to get my ALK up to 9 KH slowly. Rapid swings (Alk, temp, etc.) can lead to recession. Once you get ALK up where you want it, then you can dose with whatever works for you and your tank to maintain Ca and ALK. Personally, I think daily dosing with a balanced two part is best (safest) for small tanks, if needed. KALK disasters are not unheard of even on big tanks. Since your pH is low you could use Seachem Reef Buffer to raise both ALK and pH. Your calcium is fine to slightly high IMO. I shoot for 450.
  11. No Gig 'em I live down in Buda, just south of Austin.
  12. I also have some frags of rainbow monti (more encrusting than the cap)...
  13. I have a bright green monti cap that grows fast and the tyree flower petal cap = green, blue polyps with lilac rim.
  14. Just start with a bigger tank!! Trust me you'll save money in the long run. Seriously, tangs can be a bit feisty with other fish and torment them to death esp. in a smaller tank. I'd say a 75 is the minimum for any tang, bigger for the larger species.
  15. I would verify with a test kit before you count on their accuracy or before you start dosing with Kalk. Do you have current Ca and ALK readings?
  16. Looking good. I wanna come see those Rastas!
  17. I have to make a few frags for some other reefers so come on down...
  18. I won't be here from 1230 to 230. After that is cool. I'll be here.
