  1. awesome - thanks for the link - I'm gonna try it right now!
  2. Hey, Anyone have any ideas? The guy is super friendly and will readily crawl on my hand, but as soon as I try to lift him out of the tank or put a net in to grab him he takes off (smart a**). Anyway, he's a pig and I want to move him out of my seahorse tank and into the clown fish tank so he won't be all over the seahorse food (once I get seahorses). Thoughts?
  3. very interested in chiller - please pm me details (brand, condition, etc)
  4. I'm going to be honest - I don't think the tank is worth the money. I got the fluval chi and modified it for saltwater. Ended up taking out the filtration/light cause it wasn't suitable for saltwater. That left me with the cube. I could have gone to ikea or some other place and found a nice glass cube for much cheaper. I added a mini canister filter for filtration. TOM'S makes one for cheap, but that one leaked, so I bought the 504 canister filter they sell at Petco for turtles. It's been working great. I hide the intake and outtake behind decorations. I bought the finnex Epoch Cliplight (http://www.finnex.net/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=176&category_id=4&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=61&vmcchk=1&Itemid=61) and my macros have been going crazy for it! The light was cheap, looks nice and is the perfect amount of light for any coral, including sps (I have a tri-color valida that is doing amazing). If you want an all-in-one, I recommed the fluval spec. I just purchased it for work and love it! It's got the hidden back compartment that gives many options for filtration. I did substitute a coralife mini aqualight for the led. I prefer snails to crabs. Hermit crabs are little devils. I think the size is too small for 4-5 fire shrimp. I'm going to get 3-5 sexy shrimp for my fluval spec. I would recommend you stick with smaller shrimp. I recommend deciding first what you want to keep - researching the requirements for that coral/invertebrate/fish - then choose a tank you like that meets those requirements. Another consideration for nanos - water evaporates quickly out of an open top tank. I have to top off my tanks daily using a pitcher. Feel free to pm me any other questions. I've done all different size nanos - 2 gallon, 2.5 gallon, 5 gallon, 12 gallon, 24 gallon and 29 gallons. I'm happy to share my own trials and errors with you.
  5. Very interested in yellow watchman and meteor shower. LMK Thanks, T
  6. do you have same problem with white sand? I have only had crush coral and I like it b/c its easy to clean. But I really like how black or white sand looks. How deep is the sand in your tank? Yes, its true that any sand/subtrate can easily get caught in a mag float. The black sand also clings to the backside of the magnet. The sand in my tank is anywhere between 2-6" since I have a few seagrass areas in the tank. I currently have a mix of white and black (salt and pepper) and I think that looks pretty cool. It sounds like you would really like to try the black sand - go for it . Just have an alternative way to clean the glass near the sand so you are at less of a risk of getting the sand caught in the mag float. Post pictures once you've made your choice!
  7. I think Mindflux has some great advice. 10 gallon tank from petco cheap hang on the back filter (can usually borrow from someone - I've got tons - you'd just have to drive out to pville hyposalinity - cause it doesn't cost anything I agree that there is no real need for a light. If you run the filter with carbon, you can probably get away with 1-2 water changes per week. The purpose of having a cycled tank is so there is bacteria present to take care of the ammonia and other dangerous ions - or is that atoms? I don't know chem . In any case, carbon and water changes should help keep those levels in check.
  8. black sand looks great and you can see a diatom bloom on the surface if you're looking for it. It's annoying as heck though cause it doesn't just get stuck to my mag float - its literally attracted to it. It doesn't matter how high up I am in the tank, the black sand never falls to get between the magnets and scratch my tank.
  9. Does he eat frozen mysis or only live food? What size tank does he require? I've got a mixed coral tank with zero inhabitants (other than coral), but it's only 12 gallons.
  10. I'm still looking for the best forever home for my girl. I love her dearly and was able to get her the wonderful training she deserves. She is now obedience trained, still sweet and loving, and ready to be someone's new best friend. In fact, I think she would be the perfect fit for a family with a special needs child. She is the easiest dog to care for (no bad habits, light to medium exercise needs), she loves to be pet, gives lots of kisses and is able to remain calm in a persons presence for an extended amount of time. A special needs child would also be able to relate to Dakota's special needs (she's deaf) and use her as a model of love and perserverance. If you know of anyone that might be interested please let me know. Thanks ARC family!
  11. I love the back story on this fish! How wonderful to come from sustainable fisheries and go to the best breeder - not highest bidder.
  12. evacuating house - too many animals to wait to last minute. Fish are in water so they will be fine - right?:???????

I'm just praying for the families in Steiner and Bastrop - how horrible and scary

  13. Every time I look at your tank photos I feel like a kid. It's the "I want, I want, I want" syndrome
  14. Hey - hows it going with the different sea grasses? It took forever, but my oar grass is finally growing in my 5 gallon. The turtle, manatee and shoal grasses are still taking a while to settle in. Do you supplement w/iron, magnesium, etc.? Have you found some to do better than others? Would also love any pic updates you have Oh - your third seahorse - what kind is she?
  15. Thanks for trying . I'm not good at waiting . . . Does it count that they won't arrive until next Tuesday???
  16. K all, I just finished planting the seahorse tank with all sorts of gonornians (waiting for pictures to transfer from phone and will post in seahorse forum). In the meantime I was just "searching/researching" seahorses online and came across this pair on liveaquarium. I am about a 1/2 second away from purchasing them, even though I told myself I would wait for my gongornians to acclimate/survive. I think the male in the pair is beautiful - and I love that they are from ORA. HELP!
  17. Just got my order of gorgonians from aquatic connection. Red sea whip, Indo Lace, Purple corky finger, Golden rod, white lightning, orange tree. What an exciting day!

  18. Just back from sea world. My favorite part - going through the coral reef exhibit and being able to say - Oh I have that in my tank, and I used to have that, and I want that . . . :)

Exactly! I think I started to sound annoying to my friend, when every other second I could say, ". . . and this is called . . ." :)

  19. In wall dog door returned. Paying for daycare tomorrow . . . Hopefully I'll figure out a more permanent/cheaper solution before the school year starts
  20. I know, . . ., note above where I said the "perfect" place. My couch is on the other side lol
  21. I have a panel door from my old place that fits in the sliding door - but then I can't lock my sliding door . . .
  22. Hey All, I figure some of you might have some advice on this topic. I'm trying to install a new dog door and it turns out there is a stud in the middle of the "perfect" place for me to place the door. Can I cut the stud? Is that a really bad idea or not a big deal? Newly constructed home and I've never cut into a wall before so I'm a bit terrifed at the idea. Any advice is welcome! Teresa
  23. Hi Dena, Thank you so much for your message! I've visited your site a few times and have complete admiration for the work you do. Dakota is a 5 year old Australian Shephard/Heeler mix and is only 35 lbs. She is such a love bug. We have been playing and cuddling every day since I brought her home from her in-kennel training session at Triple Crown Academy. I'm still working with Austin Dog Alliance in the hopes of finding her a perfect forever home. I wish you the best with your rescue organization and I'm glad to find other dog lovers on this forum. My best, Teresa http://austindogalli...available-dogs/ http://www.gofundme.com/dakota Dakota smile2.bmp
  24. I voted else where cause I didn't see Pflugerville - am I blind? I know it's close to Round Rock, but I've got Pville pride! Where else can you have a bumper sticker that reads "Between a rock and a weird place"?
  25. Arrgg - this is what I get for not checking the forum in over a week ! I hope everyone had a great time. I'm so jealous of all your finds already .
