Great Austin Dinner

Recommended Posts

Hey Y'all,

My wife and I will be in Austin tomorrow from college station, she's working out there for the day and we're going to make a stop by the aqua dome, just want to show her some bigger tanks in the hope that we can move from the 12 to a bigger tank one day.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone can suggest an awesome place to have dinner. We really like low key places dives with great amazing food.

I don't get to Austin much but a couple of my favorite places are Juan in a million and Dry Creek Cafe & Boat Dock.

We might also hit up whole foods, she's never been to one.

Havanna is pretty close to Aquadome. Great cuban food with a cool outdoor seating area (too cold now) and some of the best empanadas I've had in the U.S.

Lucy's fried chicken is around the corener from Curra's..

If you go to Curras have the avacado rita!

Matts el Rancho...Gourmands is indead excellent, Kirby, Jack Allens....

I mean, Austin is one of the top five food cities in the nation just about anywhere that isn't a chain is going to be pretty **** good.

+1 to most of what the southside guys have listed:

HopDoddy (gourmet burger)

HomeSlice (pizza)

Evangeline's (cajun)

Cabo Bob's (DIY burritos - in my opinion beats out Freebirds and Chipotle)

Gourdough's trailer (incredible donut desserts any time of day)

Jack Allen's (homestyle Texas comfort food with a twist)

but one of our absolute favorites is Sao Paulo, brazlian food just north of UT. Worth the drive and has a real "Hole in the Wall - Treasure" experience.

oh...I am having a brain fart...help me out guys...

The two oldest holes in the wall in Austin are both near campus. one is the Texas Chili bar (it's even in a few songs!) and the other is a german place about 4 blocks closer to campus....

Always spelled wrong and even more pronounced wrong....anyone?

Dock in roll food trailer (Lobster rolls that are actually affordable).

Hopdoddy's is awesome but a pain to get into unless you go right when it opens.

Huts hamburgers.

Dart bowl enchiladas.

Magnolia cafe.

Parkside.

St Philip pizza (just opened, really good)

Mandolas Italian Market.

Cypress Grill (Personally my favorite po boys, over quality seafood and evangeline)

Just throwing some favorites out there.
