fishypets
Looks like you'll be breeding mosquitoes and green algae.
Bpb
Mosquitos won't stand a chance in there if you have enough fish. Hook up a big uv sterilizer and won't that really control algae as well?

Bpb
That is interesting though. I've always wanted to keep a pond but wouldn't know what to do with all the fish when it gets cold outside. Just let them go and buy new ones when it warms back up?
ckyuv
Or get a heater
Bpb
Lol I can't imagine the size heater that would be necessary to keep the water even in the high 60's when it gets down to the 30's outside. ...awaiting Patrick's contribution to this thread Not hijacking, Ian, fear not. victoly
pumps do a fair bit of heating, and most pond fish like, hell ENJOY the cold water.
Bpb
Nice. I've heard tall tales of koi and goldfish surviving freezing waters. Stuck frozen in place with metabolisms low enough to keep them alive till it melts. Not sure how much truth is in that. Besides celestial pearl danios, what other species are you considering? victoly
Probably Gambusia or top view goldfish. Ranchus or celestials.
JamesL
I have had not problems keeping goldfish alive over the winter in my ponds, and they were pretty small ponds. The main issue I have had was raccoons fishing them out.
