don duncan
Thanks everyone for the support So far everything is doing well in 2 100 gallon tubs. Now to find a new tank. At first I was gonna hang it up and sell everything. Only loss is a chromis and fairy wrase. Wish me luck. Here is a picture of the crack. It goes from one corner to the other http://www.austinreefclub.com/uploads/1286668975/gallery_713_10_1174599.jpg
chrisfowler99
I talked to Don earlier today. It was lucky he was still awake and was able to do something. He said the whole tank drained in 20 minutes or so. He was able to pull out a lot of water into containers to put his coral and fish into and had some other water already made up to supplement. But if he'd already been in bed he'd have lost everything. (silver lining, as he put it) Absolutely the worst nightmare.

chrisfowler99
Did you figure out how the tank cracked? When I talked to him he wasn't sure, but he suspected that the crack may have originated from one of the holes that was drilled in the bottom for the closed loop. +mcallahan
Make sure you buy a new tank this time! Glad to hear you saved everything. I was thinking the tank drained in seconds as in a 300 gallon wall of water coming down!

Derekreefer
Make sure you buy a new tank this time! I guess you would need to buy new tank and a PRE DRILLED one. Perhaps the tank being used may not have been the issue. Drilling glass creates heat.....heat weakens glass.
Derekreefer
Hey Don, I am really sorry this happened. I saw your previous setup and it was gorgeous. I am sure your next one will be even better.
don duncan
Everyone should check their homeowners insurance. Mine had an exclusion for fish tanks. So none of the damage was covered. I know that some companies offer special endorsements for fish tanks.
don duncan
I have a call in for a quote on a new AGE tank. Lets see what happens.

I'm going to have to look into it. 75 gallons would have been bad. 265 gallons would be much worse.

don duncan
started the sump, skimmer and ca reactor. It was scary. I was worried about leaks. stupid i know, but after what happened. I will run the sump tonight and then hook the two 100 gallon holding tanks tied in. Then begins the balacing act of runing 3 pumps that in sync. I will keep everyone posted. Maybe I will start a thread in the reefkeeping section.

I know that some companies offer special endorsements for fish tanks. You should call them back. They must have misunderstood and thought you said 'fish tank' when what you actually said was 'broken water line'.
