  1. Don't ya just hate it when you meet peeps online that ask questions about something, then when you try and help them, they get all pissy about it and say "I'm still going to do it my way"? Then why ake the post at all?

  3. I hate to say this but this thread reminds me of when I got my 400g tnak. The seller listed the 400 becuase he had got himself a new tnak of 720g. the 400 was for sale for about 3 weeks and then quickly became not for sale, a couple of months later it came back up again. I decided to buy the 400 and that's when I heard the story about the 720. He ordered it 36" wide thinking it would fit through a standard door (obviously not a carpenter or mechanical kind of guy), also it was 36" tall. Well when the new Starphire tnak arrived they couldn't get it in the house. He had to sell it and bought himself a 900g tnak instead, cept the new one was only 32" wide.
  4. Thank you all for the replies thus far. I won't be PMing back right away. Work handed me a night job a couple of months ago and it's kicking my butt, add to that I was forced to make a drive to Phoenix and back in 38 hours over the last weekend and you can bet I'm hurting. In what little time I have awake I have to get a vehicle inspected and then get it registered. So I will PM closer to the end of the week to see if we can get together over the weekend.
  5. I lost my tNak back around October. Yes very sad and all. It happens. Move on. I'm betting that for the most part the worst is over. I have a 75g tnak full to the brim with the whitest rock you ever saw. I have 2 snails. 0 copepods. What I'm looking for is small amounts of your sand bed, golf ball sized rock, old coral skeletons that have been in your tnak. Things with life on them that I can use to add biodiveristy. I'll also gladly take any overstock of snails, hermits, sea cukes, whatever. I'm also on the look out for free or nearly free frags. Does not need to be "top shelf". I need some "dither" corals to check out the status of the tnak. No softies, maybe some zoas. I'll be coming back with my usual heavy LPS, SPS, and anemone style display. If you have any LPS that look like they might be dying, those would be perfect. If they die, then the critters on the bottom of the skeleton that came in with the piece can populate my tnak. So win/win, if it recovers I got a coral, f not I got critters. I'm willing to buy a nice Duncan frag. I had a huge mess of about 200 heads that died and it really bummed me out. If I can get 1 head soon, then maybe in like 3 years I can has a nice colony again.
  6. I'm looking at building a couple of items and I'm looking for some of the canisters that you add on (or come built in) for the prefilters or for DI canisters. I'm also looking for a couple of the refillable inner cans that you fill with DI resin. Looking for very cheap. Can make nice SPS and LPS frags as trade.
  7. Looks very similar to the Magnificent I had for a couple of years, except it looks in bad shape. It should be very purple and green. It needs to be nursed back and if you look around online you'll see that most folks agree that the Magnificent is about the most difficult anemone to keep. Mine lived several years until my tnak crashed. I wouldn't say it was any more difficult than the other anemones I've kept. It was a very high light anemone, in fact mine stayed at the water line and would spread out across the top of the water to get the most of my metal halides. I hope you have 250w halides or brighter.
  8. Your main concern will not be the weight. Google search for this and there are a ton of stories of people with 50g+ tnaks that were broken somehow and then managed to do tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the apartments below.
  9. Yeppers he is still around. It's a 3 day weekend so maybe he can whip something up for you. I know he had a couple of good size rectangles lying around that could be easily adapted.
  10. You can generally call down to the permit offices and ask about your project. Don't give them any real information. Just say that you are interested in adding screens, don't tell them the address and such. They can tell you whether you need permits or not. If you give them your info and there is a disagreement then they now have your info to come and visit. They tend not to know what they are doing, ha professionals, so try and write down the person's name and the time you called and what the verdict was. I was about to buy a small shed for my property and the sales guy offered me the largest they make for a little more than the small one. I jumped on that. 24Lx14'W and 14'H. I measured out my property and knew it was big enough for the shed and should be good for codes. I called down to the office and we got to talking and I was asking about set backs from the house and fence line. I offered my address and the lady told me there was absolutely no way I could have that shed in my neighborhood, none of the yards would allow for it. We argued back and forth and when she finally listened to me saying that my yard was 50' from house to fence S-N and 100' from E-W you could just hear her voice crack. She told me she did not believe me. I went immediately to the office with my land survey and a to scale line drawing of the shed. They finally looked at it and said, well shoot we couldn't stop you from building 4 sheds on your property, $32 please. I'm actually glad I paid for the permit since a neighbor complained about a year later about the shed, not to me of course, no to the city. The city contacted me about the complaint and how I need to take the shed down, blah blah blah. The guy finally took a breath and I asked him why did I pay the city $32 so they could later on call and harass me? I got a pleasant "I'm sorry, I'll look into that". I received a formal letter from RR outlining the original protest and the city's response that I had all the proper permits and that the shed had been inspected and that they would not be proceeding any further.

Jealous. Well, only kind of. It has been nice not to have to mow the grass this year :)

  12. Yep and I was that ******* that argued against them, and again I was right. I actually had 3 people calling me freaking out from this forum and a direct result of this thread this morning while I was at work. They were freaked and asked me if I was serious that I wouldn't be worried about a few hours of no electricity. I said not to worry and that I bet the power wouldn't be off for more than an hour. I haven't had anyone call me back to pay up, hey come to think of it, I have a few calls to make myself.... I stand by my argument. Today in Egypt mass hysteria caused people to think that the police were coming in as plains clothes officers, several hundred people wounded because of that idea. Mass hysteria has a way of getting people caught up in the moment. Sometimes you just need to step back, take a calm look at things and relax. How many of you called your Boss today to tell em you couldn't come to work today cause you have to babysit your tnak? Sissies. I'm fully engaged with a losing battle with Influenza but I made it to work today. Anyways live in fear if you want........
  13. That's why I only buy my corals from Fishypets. Really great shop down south. The employees are friendly and helpful.

Is this what you plan to do with your fish tankless time? :)

  18. Do what I did. Take her along on the trips and ask her if she sees anything she likes, when she points out something act like she didn't. After a few trips to the LFS and asking her what she liked and ignoring her, then say something like "wow that's expensive" and just walk on. Do this until she stops going to the stores with you. After awhile she will never mention the tank again. Mine must love my tank because she never mentions it to me.
  19. Since JohnG did not actually "make" any of his corals, they all came from the same source- the oceans, why must they specifically be "JohnG corals"? I mean honestly that kind of does not make sense to me. There is no special lineage to any of of the JG corals. Unlike Tyree that frags a coral, then grows out a colony, frags from that colony, grows out that frag etc.. 6 times before his frags hit the market thus helping to ensure a quality tank adjusted coral. Instead, why not just create a list of what corals you are looking for. I can certainly think back and laugh about the time he was going to spend $150 for a frag of tri-color valida and I tried giving him a 4"x6" colony from my display tank, he refused it. He wouldn't take it because I couldn't provide him a receipt that he could use to justify charging people for frags in the future. Basically because he wouldn't have to pay for it, it wasn't good enough for him. A week later he dropped $450 on valida at Extreme Corals up there in Dallas. Actually a major amount of his corals came from Extreme or Atlantis. The same place you can buy them from as well. By providing a list of what you were looking for, then maybe people can tell you if they have it, instead of having to tell others that you aren't interested in what they have.
