  1. Nice tank. I'm probably 6 months out from pulling the trigger to start. Not sure if new is a must have yet.
  2. Hi y'all! I'm a former reef addict and member of ARC who had a 90g mixed reef tank, but had to get out of the hobby 5 years ago. Anyways, life is opening up again and I'm itching to get back in the reef hobby, but in a more scaled down version. I would like to try a bio / nano cube sized AIO and keep zoas, shrooms, anemone, pair of clowns and some blennies, and maybe an acan and/or clam. I look forward to re-learning from y'all and getting back in to the hobby. Mitch
  3. All, I'm deferring to Ty in regard to collecting funds etc. TY Ty! Ty, btw, i'll assume you don't need me to maintain a list of peeps in the OP. If you do, lmk.
  4. Awesome guys! I'm hijacking the first post and keeping a list of those who wish to contribute to the gift. Please continue to reply to this thread if you are interested in contributing. I believe Tim is Vietnamese (please correct me if i'm wrong). Anyone know what would be considered a traditional Vietnamese condolence gift? A quick Google search says no gift, but a card, meals, and the like. Another suggestion was a charitable donation. Please advise if someone knows better.
  5. Would anyone be interested in chipping in for something for his family? Tim obviously was part of our ARC family, and I think it would be nice for us, eg ARC, to send our group condolences to his family.
  6. I'm very sad to hear this. Tim was such a good guy. RIP. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
  7. I have similar problems with copy-and-paste as George has brought up. Also, sometimes when I edit one of my posts and submit, it'll show up with html code embedded.
  8. Currently @ AMD. James and I work on the same floor / side of the bldg. I'm part of the CAD team supporting the designers with AMD's processor designs. I specialize in static timing analysis (verify a chip is running to spec, eg 1 GHz) and thermal analysis (verify the current flow (= heat) through localized parts of the chip do not change device characteristcs and or long term reliability of the part). However, I'm at the cusp of a career change and was accepted to UT's Alternate Entry MS Nursing program, but have deferred my start til Summer 2014. I hope to work in the ER and/or ICU, where I currently volunteer at both @ Brackenridge. Btw, other interests include sailing/windsurfing (i used to be a collegiate sailor), salsa dancing (teach, promote, run events), and brazilian jiu jitsu (just a blue belt).
  9. Here's a friend's blog post about the versatility of using zip ties: http://the-fishroom.blogspot.com/2013/02/tales-from-reefkeeping-tool-box-v1.html And the use of wire mesh shelving mounted vertically was from me
  10. Unfortunately, yes that would be against the rules.
  11. Fyi, the WXM is intended to control the Ecotech Vortech wirelessly, not to connect to a wireless access point. Apex only has wired capability. My suggestion is to find a DD-WRT capable router and configure it as wireless client. For example, you can get this refurb unit for $32 (listed on slickdeals.net this past FRI): Cisco Linksys E2000 Wireless N Dual Band (not simultaneous) 4-Port Gigabit Router DD-WRT/Tomato Compatible (refurbished) $32 + Free Shippingat Digital Etc $32

Austin Home Brew sells their 55g barrels which held syrups etc for $10ea. Some have removable lids, some just the bung holes.
  13. haha... your subject line reads "FREE", when it should read "FRESH"
  14. i've got 2 spare barrels... these were from Austin Homebrew... they are the white ones with 2 two inch bung holes... i paid $10ea if you want one or both...

  17. i picked up this remora setup from daniel way back when... i've only used it once for a q-tank besides daniel's <6mo use: http://www.austinreefclub.com/topic/6142-fs-hob-aquac-remora-skimmer/page__view__findpost__p__33346
  18. Jeremy, i'm happy to conribute to a bulk purchase. i'll pm you my mbl # and we can figure things out via txt as i'll be running around for the rest of today.
  19. Mark, if Ty hasn't gotten it from you already, can i get it? i just recently noticed i have red bugs
  20. Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
  21. The cost difference between Apex and Apex Lite is $130 (retail). What you give up is 1) the additional ph/ORP port and 2) the 4 variable speed ports. The former is usable w/ Tunze's or dimmable ballasts. If you don't have that need, then you can gain back the 2nd ph/OPR, eg for controlling a Ca reactor, for $75 with the PM1, which also gives you an additional 6 digital inputs and ability to monitor another temp. The benefit of the Apex Lite + PM1 combo is that now you have the flexibility to locate your pH probes and/or digital inputs further away if you have such a need.
  22. Been very happy with my Apex setup... for my 90g, i have: Apex w/ temp, pH, and pH/ORP (used as pH) 2 x EB8 4 LED Lunar Simulator IO Breakout Box (would recommend doing a DIY instead) Wireless Expansion Module (for Vortechs) Want: Probe Module 1 (want to use ORP in this or main module) Plugged into my UPS, i have a 12v a/c adapter for the main module, DD-WRT wireless client, and 1 of the 2 Vortechs. Support from both Neptune as well as the RC community is phenomenal. PM me if you want to come over and check out my setup.
